    Sellers Beware

i wanted to share with you all a "horror story" from a seller's point of view about a recent transaction through Ebay. I recently had my old Alienware laptop on Ebay for sale. Despite having to take a bath on it's value, I had several offers come my way to take it off my hands. I finally settled with someone who made an offer that was acceptable and followed through with sending the laptop out to them after receiving an email stating that funds were transferred. This is where things go really wrong. After sending the laptop, I informed the member of shipment and sent the UPS tracking number. Their first response was that the shipment would not arrive in time for their "relative" to pick it up, supposedly the person was only visiting the states and they were due to leave the very same day that the shipment would arrive. I tried to assure them that it was possible that the laptop would arrive early and then at this point, this is where things get freaky. I get a series of emails through Ebay claiming that I disregarded their request to send the package in such a manner that it would arrive a day earlier (which I never got) and then explanations of this persons location. Now, the freaky thing was that every email I received, needed to be translated from German, despite the fact that I was dealing with an Italian guy who lived in Mexico. I decided to revisit the email I got stating I received funds and then double check this through Paypal...no monies received. in fact there was no activity showing up about this transaction at all. This is when I smarted up and contacted PayPal, who informed me that when a payment is sent to me, they send the email to my email address on file. The email I got came to my other address that is not on file...yep, i got scammed. In any case, I called UPS and placed a return to sender request, to stop the package from being delivered, and not a moment too soon. I found out later that the package was sitting in the destination location, ready to be delivered...close call. I then called Ebay and explained the situation and they told me to cancel the order, which I did. Now it's Wednesday and I am still waiting for the laptop to come back. The real kicker is that when i shipped the laptop, the shipping cost was more than what Ebay quoted the "buyer" so i had to eat that extra cost and now on top of that, I'll have to pay for shipping the laptop back. Still, that's nothing compared to losing my laptop to a thief. Point to all of this: when selling items on Ebay, double and triple check validity of messages before proceeding. There are spoof emails circulating all over the net these days so be very careful. I was dumb and almost paid the price. :( -Jim
  2. We have received an email from someone who claims to have recently purchased the FSPlanet.com domain name. We cannot vouch for that, but we did want to pass this along just in case there is some truth to it. He claims that previous FSPlanet first class members are still paying for their membership and that those payments (via PayPal) are going to the previous owner. FSPlanet does not now charge for "First Class" membership so the point is that folks are spending their money needlessly. Again, we cannot substantiate any of that, but if you have been a FSPlanet user and spending money there, you might want to ask some questions to insure you are not wasting your hard earned money.
  3. Hello, I want to buy 747 for FSX, but the purchase process stops after checking out and signing in on the paypal webpage. The site seems to be corrupted. I did not experience this problem in other webshops when using paypal. Any solution? Thanks!
  4. Hi There, My attempts to purchase the new FS2Crew PMDG 747 QOTS II using a creditcard so far have failed, Here is way... The paypal webpage on creditcard payments includes two sections, Section 1 is entitled 'Pay with debit or credit card', whereas section 2 is entitled Create your PayPal account'. Leaving the second section empty results in these fields being colored so as to say 'they need to be filled in'. So my question is: how can I purchase the product without being forced to join paypal? Am I missing something in the proces (which is entirely possible)? Thanks for your suggestions. Martin P.S.: the http actually ends with /signup
  5. I did a bogus order in Simmarket (funds very tight for now, just for curiosity, never placed order), when I found this rather nasty surprise: (Highlighting is mine) I'm thankful to SimMarket for meeting a big part of my FS needs but, honestly, this looks like nickel & diming. I don't feel like giving my credit card details to an additional vendor. Looks like I'll be voting with my wallet next time I feel the itch for payware... EDIT: forgot to add, this fee wasn't there before, or at least it wasn't applied in October 2016 (my last order)...
  6. I am very reluctant to give my credit card out due to the ease hackers are able to penetrate various well known sites. I prefer PayPal so that if it is compromised I will know quickly and can take action. If 5 or 6 sites have my info, notification or a report of a breach may not be as prompt. So, from what I see Microsoft wants a only a credit card for their "cell-phone like" points?????
  7. I can not buy the program via paypal. Is it possible to buy it in another way? And this question . Can I use a coupon "reboot5" if I do not own a previous version of the program?
