March 19, 200422 yr How do others keep themselves busy/interested during a longer PMDG flight where basically the FMC is doing all the work?Looking around at scenery and monitoring the flight are obvious, but are there any other ways you've found to make the enroute protion more interesting and exciting? One thing I like to do is look up some of the airports on teh net as I pass them. http://www.airnav.com is a great way to do this.Gavinhttp://www.interprom.com/gavhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg

March 19, 200422 yr My wife is my offline stewardess. After reaching Cruise level, I do exactly what real world pilots only wish to do with their stewardesses on the way..This is best practice ;) Balint Nagy
March 19, 200422 yr My wife is not a flight attendant (although she used to be :))Beacause of this, I'll go and bath the kids, cook dinner, put the kids to bed, wash the dishes, let the other half watch her TV show's while I come back to the PC to land the bloody thing.....All's fair in love and flying ;) (just make sure it's offline)
March 19, 200422 yr No, really. I usually keep myself busy with paying constant attention to all parameters on the displays, the radio chatter, weather reports at destination airport (weatherset2.exe) and if I still have spare time to spend on my 1,5 - 2 hour flights, I usually have dinner. Personally I don't like to do anything not related to flight while flying.Cheers, Balint Nagy
March 19, 200422 yr Yahoo hold 'em poker, forum reading, TV/DVD and reading. Most of the time I just sit and look out my leftside monitor and watch the world float by. Or if you were at LAX last night trying to get taxi clearance on Vatsim, watch all the planes that asked for clearance after you go and take off. Even so, a 45 minute ground delay is pretty realistic and I enjoyed it much more than my daily commute from work.__Josh
March 19, 200422 yr A bit off topic, as it doesn't realistically apply to the NG. But, what I like is flying something older (the B727 comes to mind), and using real manual instrument navigation techniques without the auto-pilot. I'm currently doing my instrument rating practical, and have found that although the B72 is no training substitute for the 172SP that I fly, it does offer the same challenges and certainly keeps one busy (especially with altitude tolerances of +/- 100 feet, headings of +/- 5 degrees and VOR navigation of +/- 2 degrees (one dot).Bruce. March 19, 200422 yr Easy. by keeping the flight under two hours! ;) And monitor the plane/weather/traffic during the flight. Two hours pass very quickly so no need to get off the pc or change programs, besides doing this is unrealistic ;)
