Support Topic: Realistic Visual Weather Settings

Featured Replies

The following is a list of settings that provide the most realistic visuals using ASv6 and FS2004.Before I begin, some disclaimers:1. Realistic is in the eye of the beholder. What is realistic for one may not be realistic for another.2. Performance may vary from one computer to another, even with the same hardware. I will try to comment on things as necessary.OK, on to the list!1. Make sure all your hardware drivers are up to date. This includes video card, motherboard drivers, DirectX, and sound card drivers.2. In FSUIPC make sure you are using Default Settings and Weather Settings Off.3. In FS2004:  Sight Distance set to 60. This setting does not affect the visibility so don

When I force vis limits, it cuts off the ground textures in the distance, at higher elevations, and at night, this is quite obvious, and I can see stars and the moon way below the horizon because of the missing ground textures.... is there a way to fix this? Thanks for the great new program, by the way, AS6 is amazing!

Jim, Thanks for this. Now if we set like you stated above, do we mess at all with ASG themes or no?

Jim,One question with the flightplan...I usually input the departure and arrival destinations as well as the alternate, altitude and speed via the New Route button. I do not however import the waypoints in between as I just use RW flightplans and input the data on the FMC of my aircraft. Does the way I do it screw up the Wx Influenced selection? If it does, I guess I need to go with Random?

Hi Eric,This won't be a problem... just make sure FS9 is started AFTER the wx and graphics are updated with the departure station active (which would happen after flight plan load). Best,

The textures

Thanks alot Jim for taking the time putting this list together for us, will happily try your suggested settings out!

One question..why does it seem that my visibility settings as far as soft horizons and stuff goes right out the door when the sunset is taking place? is there a way to prevent this? during day or night anything not inbetween the sunset/sunrise i get the blended textures which is very nice and no sharp horizon..but like i said during sunset its like it gets overridden? thx for help..awesome program

New to the forum and first let me say, thank you. ASV6 is nothing short of incredible. I'm a wx flyer and truly appreciate the effort of your developement and beta. The results are clearly there (no pun intended :-))!Question - Playing around the past few days I'd notice when flying over stations with visibility being reported as 2m, 1m (and less), I could actually see the ground. I'd be at an altitude of 15000ft or so.With such low visibility, I'd think we'd not be able to see ground textures. Yes?, No?Now, when descending there seems to be an altitude where at and below, sure enough... the vis does actually get as crumby as realism might dictate. I'll guess, 6000ft or so, maybe a bit higher. And I just wondered, is there a setting I can change (or might I have a box checked I shouldn't have checked), whereby when at these higher cruise altitudes, the expected horrible haze layer (or fog, whatever) makes seeing ground less likely?Really guys, incredible work here! Sincere tkx!!
