July 20, 200520 yr I have previously run my old CRT monitor at 1024x768 for both the Desktop and full screen Fs2004 with no problems.I have now purchased a new 19" LCD monitor whose natural resolution is 1280x1024. The ratio of length to width is therefore different - from an old 1.33 to a new 1.25. The instructions for the monitor says that it should be run at it's native 1280x1024.I am now also running the fullscreen FS2004 at this new resolution -- but all the a/c gauges are elongated lengthwise. I can fix this by stretching ( or rather, shortening, the 2d panel -- but I can't do anything about the VC .Any ideas please??Thanks Barry

The new one is 5x4. The only way to place your 4x 3 onto a 5 x 4 display without distortion is to reduce the vertical height in proportion to the horizontal ( will be around 60 pixels) so that you are back to a 4 x 3 on the 5 x 4 panel. This of course, will leave a border on the top and bottom of your panel. The other solution would be to set your resolution on your FS9 to 1280 x 1024 which I think is an option.
July 20, 200520 yr Commercial Member As Bob memtioned, just set your FS resolution the same as the desktop.http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg Cheers Paul Golding
July 20, 200520 yr There has been another thread I know of about this subjet with more information:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchHope this helps!
July 20, 200520 yr Thanks J-L. I've been debating going to flat screen monitors and that link really helps.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. July 20, 200520 yr Author Hmm-- well anybody who says that they can't see the elongation of gauges when using a non 4:3 ratio screen resolution must (IMO) be blind. My 19" new LCD screen with a 5:4 native resolution causes the FS2004 Caravan 2d panel to have an altimeter gauge which is 50mm taller than it is wide -- a very definite elongation . Now with the Caravan panel , you can easily reduce the panel size vertically onscreen and then you have round gauges - but with any 2d panel which has a bitmap that goes from top to bottom of the screen , that option is not available. The VC gauges are not as badly affected as the 2d panel gauges and the more that you "zoom out" the VC , the less is the apparent elongation.Setting the resolution inside FS2004 to different resolutions makes no difference as the monitor auto function ( which seems as though it can't be turned off) immediately stretches the panel back to the native resolution. So - in conclusion -- I am quite happy to now have a 19" monitor - and I could never have had a 19" CRT on my desk as they are too large -- this 19" LCD is a very convenient size -- but it looks like they are not really very good to use with FS2004.Barry
July 20, 200520 yr If it really bothers you, then do what Bob (bobsk8) says above. Reduce the vertical size a bit. It will leave a small black border at the top and the bottom of your screen but it's not much and your gauges will all be round and everything else will be back in the proper proportion. When I first got my LCD monitor I considered this approach but in just a few days I got used to the slight elongation and never got around to changing it. (Ah, the power of procrastination.)Have you noticed that the wide-screen TVs do the same thing except the elongation is on the horizontal axis? That bothers me even more. R-
July 20, 200520 yr 1280x1024 will elongate gauges because it's the wrong setting for FS9You need to set it to 1280x960 to be the correct aspect ratioPeter
July 21, 200520 yr Peter, that is technically correct, but when you have an LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1280x1024 it actually looks better to run FS9 at 1280x1024 rather than letting the monitor stretch the picture..I'm like the earlier poster and have simply gotten used to the slightly elongated gauges.. in some case where I've installed custom gauges in panels, I've actually compensated for this in the panel.cfg.. see example of the RXP Sandel in the Flight1 C172.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/122720.jpgIf you are determined enough, you can also grab the top or bottom edge of the panel (and the outside scenery if the panel goes all the way to the top) and drag it into a slight "wide screen" mode with a bit of black at the top and bottom... http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/122721.jpg Bert
July 21, 200520 yr Author Thanks for that Bert -- I knew that I could grab and drag the top edge of the panel -- but was forgetting about doing the same with the scenery.Barry
July 21, 200520 yr A really quick, simple solution would be to be able to keep the top menu bar open in full screen mode. That would almost fix he problem by itself, and you'd soon get used to having the menu bar visible. But that option is grayed out by defualt and I can't find a way to make it `stick in the FS9.cfg.Can it be done?Allcott
July 21, 200520 yr I just wanted to add my two cents here on LCD monitors, about a month and a half ago I ordered a 19 Viewsonic LCD flat screen and I was totally impressed with it when I pulled it out of the box, but when I started using it and having to deal with the ghosting and other issues I ended up giving my dad the LCD and going back to a brand new CRT 19 inch..
July 21, 200520 yr I still use a 19" CRT as it's better for graphics work which I need to do. Vastly superior picture IMO.Peter
July 21, 200520 yr But if you do get a 19" LCD make sure it has a fast refesh rate and that it's 12ms or faster to avoid ghosting. And use it in the correct aspect ratio.Technicall 1290x1024 looks better as it uses mnore pixles and that's true for CRT or LCD monitors. But for FS9 1280x960 is the only way to ensure things look right and that the world you see is not distorted.BTW; I don't like the shot with distored insturments. Looks horible to me, but then I'm a perfectionist.Peter
July 21, 200520 yr The issue with the LCD screen is different from the CRT... on a 19 inch CRT, you can display either 1280x960 or 1280x1024 and get a crisp (if distorted) image. An LCD screen only displays a crisp image in it's native resolution because it is designed on a "one pixel per pixel" basis..Displaying a different resolution results in a sightly blurred image.
