September 2, 200619 yr Hi all,Well, I finally got a new computer I went from a P4 2.8 1 GIG PC2700 DDR RAM160 GIG IDE HDX800PRO 256MB Vid Cardto thisCore 2 Duo E66002 GIG of some kind of DDR RAM250 GIG SATA HDGeForce 7600GT 256 MB DDR3Someone said I wasn't going to see a significant increase in performance in FS. Let me tell you, I almost lost control of my bodily functions when I fired up the PMDG 747 with VC at default Phoenix with UT at 72% all settings either full right or one notch short of it and AS6 so far (frames were set to unlimited my the lowest FPS I saw was 32, mostly in the high 40's though, and that was on the ground during the takeoff roll, amazing!) If you're thinking about upgrading, get what I got if you're budget can afford it. I paid appx $1400. for mine, labor was $90. Great deal considering I could find nothing even close for the price I got mine for. (7.1 SB sound card as well as a cool looking case and a 550W power supply). If anyone is interested how the FSX demo runs with on this system, let me know and I'll post the results here.Jeff Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD

September 2, 200619 yr >...I almost lost control of my bodily functions>Love the description of your pleasure, LOLSeriously, that's excellent news as your new spec sounds very similar to that which i'm contemplating - hopefully PMDG's 737 will now give the same excellent frame rates...Have fun with the new rigGary
September 2, 200619 yr Coming from a good 'ol P4, such a swap will make a considerable difference. :-) If somenbody claimed that's not the case, I fear they're mistaken. I doubt somebody will fall of their chair if they came from a neat AMD64 system. ;-) As far as I would dare to judge, the difference between a P4 and AMD64 - in FS terms - was more spectacular than an AMD64 to C2D swap would be. It's great for us users that Intel returned to 'technology street' and are able to offer a competitive product at reasonable prices (plus a reasonable power consumption!). The greatest benefit for us users: Choices... :-) Have fun and kind regards Jaap
September 2, 200619 yr That's great! I'm looking at a similar system, leaning to the E6600 but may go with the E6700. Also from the reviews of these chips, they seem to have a wide berth for overclocking, up to 4 Ghz in one review and 3.66Mhz on another with relative ease. Normally I don't consider this, but if you bounce it up to about 3 Ghz you should get similar performance to the X6800. Some of the benchmarks I've seen in these reviews at 3.66 are off the chart!! I think that would be pushing it though!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
September 2, 200619 yr Author Manny, I have the box right here, it's called an MSI P965 Neo, it's pretty good, if I knew what I was doing, I'd start messing with the BIOS to squeeze as much performance out of this machine as possible.Jeff Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD

I figured you'd fall out of your chair.Going from a P4 2.8 to a Core 2 Duo is two generations ahead and so it's no surprise ta me. Do you know what I upgraded from in Jan 06? A P4 1.8 ghz system.
