January 15, 200719 yr A report on Crysis and DX10. Crysis as you may remember is the author of "Far Cry", no slouch of a vid game.If Crysis is hailing DX10, then maybe we should just "wait and see".Cheers,bthttp://ve3d.ign.com/articles/755/755284p1.html"In an earlier article, it was reported that Crysis was running at 60+ fps for most of the time at CES 2007. In this new article, Jack Mamais tells techspot that the game is running at a resolution of 2048x1536. Judging by the HUD size in the images below, this seems like it's true.Combine that information with the fact that most of the code is still unoptimized, and you can easily understand how well Crysis will run. Take note that Crysis was running in DX10 at CES 2007, so could Microsoft's claim of 6 to 8 time the performance be true? If you read some of the earlier news items or read the techspot link posted below, you'd also know that Crysis was running an unknown core 2 duo processor and a single 8800GTX."
January 15, 200719 yr We're all waiting to see. But, even ACES have said that DX10 won't be a magic cure for the FSX performance problems. A help, but not a Holy Grail.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. January 15, 200719 yr Yes I'm sure we are all in the wait and see category...what else can be said on this topic?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
January 15, 200719 yr BLah blah blah blah blah yada yada yada yada. I still don't see why everyone is so worked up over DX10. It's going to be at least a year late, and will probably be sucky and buggy. Everybody calm down, get a 512mb video card and enjoy FSX cheaper and more stably (is stably a word, I dont know :( )And do you mean the "holy grail" like in the DaVinci Code? or the Traditional one?
January 15, 200719 yr Ok for the millionth time: It's an API folks, not some magic boost. It will do *nothing*Crysis isn't even in the same league as FS.
January 15, 200719 yr >Ok for the millionth time: >>It's an API folks, not some magic boost. It will do *nothing*>>Crysis isn't even in the same league as FS. I think you meant to say that FS is not in the same league as Crysis. The graphics alone with the performance shown makes FSX looks like it was programmed by high school kids.Actually I can see some performance boost in FSX with DX10, but I honestly don't think the graphics will be much better at all. Ground textures are basically just graphical plates imposed on the ground. They will not look much better than they do now.To make FSX shine with DX10 it would have had to be rewritten from the ground up for DX10. Then you would have seen a good flight sim instead of rehashing the same spagetti code throughout the years.

January 15, 200719 yr >Please don't speak unless you have a clue.>Prove me wrong then.I don't mind being proved wrong if there is a compelling argument against my opinion. So either put up or shut up. Don't come in here and post some useless comment without something to back it up.
January 15, 200719 yr Author What a bunch of whining cretins. I make a simple reference, to an article ABOUT ANOTHER COMPANY, and their sucess with DX10. This was not about MS, not about FSX, and all you can do is pile on with a bunch of sorrowfull whines about "not again", "not another". Who died and made the lot of you topic police? (not directed at everyone who replied, but those to whom I refer know who they are)Crikey...you guys are pure downers. This hobby has completely lost it's fun. bt
January 15, 200719 yr >Crysis isn't even in the same league as FS. True. For a start, Crysis has true volumetric clouds. FSX doesn't.Best regards, Chris
January 15, 200719 yr Crysis does look stunning, some of it really does look identical to the parts of real world scenry its been modeled on. I'll buy this for sure, like I did with Far Cry, not because this type of game is my preferred platform, but just to play it once and enjoy the sheer beauty of the graphics.
January 15, 200719 yr >>It's an API folks, not some magic boost. It will do *nothing*Absolutely! However, the API may permit programmers to place more functions within the card, such as vertex management, occlusion, etc. Meaning that the CPU hands off this off and doesn't need to worry about it. But only if the card supports those functions. So at the very best you would only see improvements with DX10 and a DX10 card. DX10 and a DX9 card means virtually nothing.
