August 27, 200619 yr Some folks appear to feel the need to state unequivocally, "...I'm not going to buy FSX." "...I'm not upgrading"!OK then. That's cool. Why all the worry though? If you don't buy it, it won't cost you anything, and you can continue with FS 9. OTOH, if you do buy it, ya don't have to remove your FS 9 installation. It will continue to work as long as you want. Therefore, I unequivocally state, "...I'm going to buy FSX." and "...I'll not be upgrading, but instead I'll run both"! (until I get tired of FS 9 and delete it from my HD, something I just did last month with FS 8 AKA FS 2002.Why? Cuz I LOVE flight simulation! Don't you?My humble thoughts,bt
August 28, 200619 yr The Internet exposes a wider social profile than we have ever been exposed to. Many messages seem without basis but are heartfelt for reasons that are not clear. In the old days we surrounded ourselves with a select group called friends. Now we are surrounded by the world. Maybe there are different ways of assessing issues that we never thought of??Dick 5G8 regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
August 28, 200619 yr FS9 will be removed from my hard drive the night before I pick up my new copy of FSX,, and I will have prepared it for installation. Spyware Doctor, Norton Checkup (Systemworks), Ad-Aware Scan, Disk checkup, and full fragmentation. No looking back! Can't wait!
August 28, 200619 yr Yes BT, I do love flight simulation. What I think is very amusing are the same people threatening not to buy FSX on release were one of the first to post about the demo. If I was serious about not using FSX, the last thing I would be interested in is the demo. The people you are referring to are akin to children that say they are running away from home because they don't get their way. They are only using the threat of not purchasing FSX as a means to draw attention to their disappointment as to the features they wanted in the new version and which did not meet their expectations. As with the child that wants to run away, as soon as you offer to help them pack their bag, they realize how pointless their threat really is.Time will tell, but I'm certain that more than half of those claiming they won't purchase the new version will be posting something about FSX within one month of release. As much as they are disappointed their pet features were not addressed properly, they just can't sit on the sidelines without participating.Bruce
August 28, 200619 yr People tend to be unhappy when they see multi-thousand dollar investments, or toys if you wish, being thrown out with the bath water. Now most of the unhappiness seems to come from unrealized expectations.I'm sure no one expected today's revelation that in the 2D cockpit - you will not be able to have views out to the side - only out the front window - no more wing views, etc.
August 28, 200619 yr You could implement a wing view by assigning a camera to the position on the model so it would look over the wing, couldn't you? Granted, you would have to cycle through the cameras to get to it, but then you could have wing views on any A/C.
August 28, 200619 yr Author I know you are a strait shooter. What bugs you about an anouncement you read? I know you are a professional when it comes to Flight Sim, so if it bugs you, it bugs me.bt
August 28, 200619 yr What really bugs me is that I looked and flew that danged demo for over a week and didn't see it !!!!Nor basically did anyone else until today!!!For some reason VC's have never been the holy grail to me.FS VC's are a REAL PAIN with bifocals. I can only avoid eyestrain problems in VC's with a special pair of mid-level glasses - which make reading fuzzy and looking across the room at what my wife is asking about impossible without changing my glasses. So I have multiple monitors and have a 90 degree field of view. When I turn my head - the sim doesn't turn, my eyes and head turn. Was going to expand that to a full 180 degrees with my next computer purchase next year...I can see where the new camera system and views internal to the panel would be incompatible. As mentioned by someone else, we might be able to assign comparable views to a camera position. Will have to look into that. But back to the topic of the thread,we all desire to learn incrementally - that's what we humans do best - building upon our experience - and for a very few - being able to use the experience of others without having to repeat their mistakes. How we SHOULD approach FSX is as a brand new - never before tried - game/ program / whatever. That way we do not restrict our evaluation to the narrow box of our expectations. But we are human and that is very, very hard to do.Yes there are things we will wish had stayed the same, and others which have not changed to our satisfactions. On this forum in the past week, I've watched with dismay how many people have never learned how to use the wonderful, rich and flexible flight planning and approach system in FS2004. It is far from perfect - but it is much better than most people imaging. Very few have even tried to see what can be done.If we don't open our eyes to explore the wonder of the undiscovered - we will miss so very much.
August 28, 200619 yr I see your pain but I think I am going to go the cheaper way and to the TrackIR so I don't have to have the multiple monitors. Chris Miller
August 28, 200619 yr Indeed. I feel no angst. August 28, 200619 yr Years of top quality FS9 add-ons and little improvement in FS-X (when running on todays hardware) does that. People need a reward for going through the hassle of installing and tweaking it to the perfect framerate. Shiny water and higer res terrain (that blurs rather quickly in the Demo (its buggy I know)) doesn't cut it for many.So the end product beter have a impressive framerate increase versus fs9 (with fs9 like quality settings) or this version stays of the HDD for now. (will then wait for the first real DX10 results and screens)
