September 3, 200916 yr Hi Chuck."but I'm sticking with 3.8x because I'm getting some stuttering in cockpit view from later versions that I haven't been able to investigate yet" have you been so kind as to report this to Peter on his web site. I think he might want to know about this.Thanks. Steve. Unlike the British Government, I actually Learn from my Mistakes.......... November 15, 200916 yr FShotFSX was working great for me in Windows XP (SP3) and FS9, but I recently installed Windows 7 with FS9 and FShotFSX no longer works even in the XP compatibility mode. It installed okay but crashes when being started, I get the following messages..I went to the support forums and tried to register, the registration page had an error and then I noticed the last forum post was over a year old.. looks like they stopped supporting the product. Too bad really, I enjoyed the enhancements it made to FS9.. and will miss them :(Chris
November 15, 200916 yr FShotFSX was working great for me in Windows XP (SP3) and FS9, but I recently installed Windows 7 with FS9 and FShotFSX no longer works even in the XP compatibility mode. One of the reasons why I'll be doing a dual install of 64-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit XP on my soon-to-be new PC.
November 15, 200916 yr One of the reasons why I'll be doing a dual install of 64-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit XP on my soon-to-be new PC.Just out of curiosity, in which order are you installing them? Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
November 15, 200916 yr Just out of curiosity, in which order are you installing them?Going to install Windows 7 first and then partition the hard drive to have an XP boot. I plan to put FS9 and/or FSX on a separate Raptor hard drive. That's the plan anyway, but I won't be getting the new PC until the end of November.
November 16, 200916 yr Installing XP after your WIN 7 install will cause boot problems in 7 until you fix it. Typically, a dual boot system works best by installing the older OS first then the new one. This is why I asked and no, I am not going the dual boot route as my Vista 64 system is stable and works the way I want it to. Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
November 16, 200916 yr Thanks for the info, WhiteKnight.I'm basing my plan on what I've read on the internet including this website which contains instructions for creating dual boots: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP
November 16, 200916 yr That site has some pretty good info. Dual-boot used to be a bit simpler from what I read in the past. To much work for me. Good luck with your new system when ya get it. Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
November 19, 200916 yr I guess you could bother with a dual boot but you don't really need to. Windows7 Professional and Ultimate versions have a separate Windows XP and Virtual PC mode that would eliminate the need for a second boot OS. Only the Pro and Ultimate versions can run XP mode and its provided as an optional download/install from Microsoft.I've just downloaded the necessary files and will install.. I'm hoping that FSHotFSX will function now in the Win7 environment! Here's a link to the XP Mode/Virtual PC website for more info..Microsoft's XP Mode/Virtual PC website
November 19, 200916 yr Crewchief408,I've heard that the XP virtual mode in Windows 7 is almost useless when it comes to gaming. It was really built for business applications. But please let us know if FSHotSFX will work in Windows 7.
November 19, 200916 yr Wally,The Virtual PC/XP mode is a fully registered copy of Windows XP that installs and integrates into the Win7 environment, at least that's what Microsoft boasts.. supposedly, you can run XP applications via the Virtual PC in the Win7 environment.I have installed it and after the setup it starts, looks, and runs just like my old XP did.. in fact the only difference I can see is that it has a control tab at the top of the screen, it even has it's own Windows Update function like the original. As of yet, I haven't figured out how to get FSHotFSX to work but I need to do some more research on how the Virtual PC application works. But even if I can't get it to work in Win7, theoretically, you should be able to install FS9 and all of it's addons in the XP Virtual PC environment which would still eliminate the need for a 2nd boot OS.I'll let you all know what I can or can't do with FSHotFSX..
November 29, 200916 yr I'll let you all know what I can or can't do with FSHotFSX..I signed up just to reply to this thread. I really hope you can find a way to get FSHotSFX to work with Windows 7; it would be a tremendous pity to lose it, as it adds to the ambience of the simulator more than any other addon I can think of. It's a shame that the developers seem to have given up on the product as well; I'd definitely pay for a quality FS9 AI sounds package if another group developed one.
December 14, 200916 yr For those that are still interested in FSHotSFX, I couldn't get it running on my new Windows 7 64-bit PC no matter what I tried. Thus I installed Windows XP 64-bit as a dual boot and will run FS9 there.Too bad the support for FSHotSFX ended a while ago because it's a great program with lots of unfinished potential.
December 18, 200916 yr I haven't responded to this thread for awhile, but rest assured I'm still trying to get FSHotSFX sorted in the Win7 environment... and I wanted to share what I have so far. After installing the Windows XP virtual PC I had to do a fair amount of research. All that reading did pay off and I am able to run FSHotSFX in the Win7 environment!! In fact I have a shortcut in my Win7 start menu that will start the program in the Virtual XP environment and seamlessly integrate it into Win7.That's the good news... now here's the bad news..When FS9 starts, and then in turn FSUIPC starts, it's .ini file named "FSUIPC.ini" starts FSHotSFX via a shortcut written in the file.. that's where I'm not stuck and I get an error message. So, to sum it up.. I do have FSHotSFX running in Windows 7, but it won't communicate with FSUIPC.... YET! Keep the faith, I'm still trying! I'll update my findings when I have something worth reporting.Just in case someone reading this can help in the quest... here is the the text from the FSUIPC .ini file and the shortcut that needs to be altered to let it communicate with FSUIPC: [Programs]RUNIF1=CLOSE,"C:\Program Files\FSHotSFX\FSHotSfx.exe MINIZ" <------- I need a shortcut inserted here to tell FSUIPC where to find the FSHotSFX.exe.. this default shortcut doesn't take into account that your connecting from Windows 7 to XP Mode. You can work around this by just simply installing FS9, scenery, utilities, and planes in the Virtual Windows XP environment.. it is a full copy of XP SP3 and looks, runs, and feels just like XP... because it is :) I haven't done it this way myself because everything is already installed into Win7... but it will work.
