Don't miss this one: a NEW FSX optimizer

Many thanks Nick. I found my problem was caused by not having Java properly installed. All fixed now.
Could you tell me what you had to do to get Java installed? I downloaded it and it seemed to install correctley but I can't get the FSX.exe bat file to work.Is there someth;ing else I have to do with Java. Thanks.Jim

I now know why many of us have been having trouble getting Fps_limiter_gui.jar to runThe problem is caused by winrar thinking .jar file is an archive file.To Fix thisGoto WinRar->OPtions->settings->integrationAnd uncheck jar, from list of files types used by winRAR.Now if you click on Fps_limiter_gui.jar you should see the Fps_limiter GUI window

The other thing is that if you are just installing Java you have to make sure it is enabled in your browser and maybe have to restart (your browser and/or your system with a reboot).

OK, i can comfirm no need for reboot after installing Sun Java, the tool does not work with microsoft java just Sun.I NEED HELP UNDERSTANDING HOW THESE WORK- New command line switch to set the desired fps (/f:x), default is 30 - New command line switch to enable or disable logging (/l:ON|OFF), default is OFF - New ingame keys to change the desired fps (F10 decrease / F11 increase) - New ingame fps display, show or hide with F12, command line switch is /x:ON|OFF, default is OFF1 = For example what do you type in the FSX to change FPS, and where do you type it. Is it /f:25 to set FPS 25 or what ? confused2 = Is it possible to change the keys used for this, cause i got every key mentioned above mapped to atleast two things each in FSX3 = Can i close the console window opened by the batch file once FSX is up

I can answer no 1 - where the red is around the 30 in attachment - place your cursor there to change it 20,30 etc - this will appear in FSX - I also would like answers to nos 2 and 3 ?? :( :(I found it works for me - really good util for FSX.

bursco,(2).The F keys won't work, as they are assigned to FSX, so obviously Limiter is intended for other games, but works for FSX.(3). Just leave it there, or minimize, while FSX is loading up, if it bothers you. Either way is ok. Just DO NOT 'X' out the window.I installed Limiter. Works as advertised-pleasant surprise. When I tried F keys, they didn't work, of course, but something got 'reset' as the fps went south. So I exited and restarted. Did a short replay and recorded with FRAPS. Sound was smooth and even at 8 fps in FSX, FRAPS stayed locked at 30 (left it default) like it claim to do and I was able to record a good video. Then I changed from default flight to another aircraft, and 'lost' the Limiter function. So, I could not KEEP it that way, due to 'xyz' (?). Restarted Limiter and FSX, and did not change views, or go to panel, or change settings, and even though FRAPS said 30 fps, the sound was broken and video was choppy. I think I will fool with it some more, tomorrow, by doing a reboot of PC first, THEN running Limiter from a 'clean' slate, which might make a difference. Limiter has potential to make FSX simming a joy-we'll see.Chuck BNapamule

OK. I admit I am a complete dummy when it comes to Java. I do not know what it is or what it does. I did download it but that is as far as I can go with it.How do I enable it or whatever to get it to do something. Help!Jim

I'm not too sure either, but for me, I just installed Java, went into IE's options>advanced and made sure the Sun Java applet is checked. I don't even know if this step is critical. Close IE. Reboot. This worked for me.Noel

Chuck,The F keys work fine for me. F11 lowers, F12 raises. I changed their default FSX controls for view changes, and reassigned those to other free keys. It's best to cycle FRAPS frames display off when changed FPS_Limiter rate.Noel

This fix is working perfectly here. What I can see at this point is people on lesser hardware, or, those who are not tuning FSX correctly, or, those who have very high overhead such as i7 clocked on 285 cards, may not get any advantage with this because a. A slow system lacks the overhead higher end systems have and with the higher resources better systems run they are not being properly governed by the application where the slower system never displayed the issue to begin with.b. A very high end i7 clocked may or may not see advantage with this. I am seeing some positive and some neutral results. Because i7 clocked places a huge overhead on the system, moreso that DDR3 QX, using the frame lock in FSX may accomplish the same goal as this app. I am seeing scenery areas where the app does help with i7 and others where there is no difference.c. A system which is not set up right for settings as outlined will be so out of balance with the hardware this will produce no result, or, a worse result. This fix changes definitely the priority to autogen and terrain and appears it may throttle some threads through the Windows service csrss.exe. Those on faster systems that have the overhead and are getting thread collisions.. this fix eliminates those. Those on slower system that do not have the overhead to begin with and their stutters are related to perf based on hardware limits, this will probably have none or little effect. It is a YMMV situation.,, but at this point a far better tweak than anything I have come across in a very long timeEveryone should try this to see if it will upgrade their result. It does not harm or change any default files. The only time it is active is when FSX is booted by the produced BAT fileWhat I did was place the framelimter app folder on my backup drive, created the BAT file.. made a shortcut of that BAT file which I sent to the desktop and then assigned the FSX.exe icon to that shortcut. I removed the original Microsoft Flight Simulator shortcut from the desktop and renamed my new one so it looks just like the original. One must also remember, .. you can NOT start a flight from the flight folder until you have started FSX with the BAT file. After FSX has launched you can double click any flight and the tool will throttle the app correctly.

What i have noticed but may be wrong is that in using this tol on my dual core, the core 1 is ot being hammered as much as before it sits at around 85 % and ocaasioanly goes higher where as before it would sit over 90%, core 2 iis being hammered more now after installing ORBX but this util makes it nice, sits at 30 occxaionaly dropping to 24.

Hi all, reading this thread with interest. I've installed it, works as advertised for me. Really seems to smooth things out greatly. Level D is humming along at 30fps. I see a fluctuation of about 3-4 fps on occasion but nothing that would bother me at all. FYI, I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 bitQ94009800 GTX+4 gig 1066 ddr2 CorsairFSX has already been tweaked using all of Nicks suggested settings.Larry

Nick--I still get some audio popping (like a Geiger counter) when in complex situations that intensifies over time/complexity--but I discovered something: autogen is the only thing that changes this. Bufferpools no. Max texture size? Could that affect this? I've had it now on ANY nV driver past 69.x in BOTH OS's, with TWO P5E3's. So with my 280GTX on Vista 64 I'm stuck with drivers past 69.x (I assume). If I lower autogen to Normal or lower, no audio popping. Now I can fly the SuperMD80 as set up in my sig with no audio popping in complex scenes, with Dense or even Very Dense scenery. Go over to FTX Tasmania, and even in a simple plane like the Cessna 441 I got popping IF autogen is higher than normal. My GPU, SCSI adaptor, and SoundMax controller DO NOT share IRQ's. I have PCI spreadspectrum disabled. It seems to me like it is somehow related texture loading but I don't really know for sure. SCENERY COMPLEXITY can be set to EXTREME with no untoward effects. Just autogen is the issue.Question: why would a/g be the thing that makes this an issue? WIth your comment above I thought perhaps you might have some theoretical insight on this odd annoyance. No other programs cause audio popping on this machine.
