Looking for Backlit KB

Featured Replies

Let me tell you my story.Disclaimer: I don't really need a new keyboard. (but I just bought a mouse, the logitech G5 - that I also don't need, nother story)Mu current KB is a logitech PS2, no backlighting, very basic etc, prolly 10 bucks off newegg a while back. The other day on a whim (without any research), I ran out to BB (first mistake) and bought a Saitek Cyborg:Cyborg KeyboardI thought, "ooooh this is l33t, all the pretty lights, which can be customized for different areas of the physical kb." Mind you the purchase was about 95 dollars for the keyboard plus tax.Today I realized that I'm a moron for spending NINETY FIVE dollars on a KB!! What the deuce? :scratch:I also realized the keys are too big for my nimble fingers, and the spacebar doesn't depress very well, making me skip intentional spaces while writing something. Then the stupid macro customizable keys on the side were completely worthless to me as a gamer...So I packaged that back up and intend to return it to BB.What I am looking for however is a backlit KB. Why you ask? Well because I enjoy flight Microsoft Flight Simulator in the dark, for my night flights (fine call me a geek  ). And it's a pain to not see the important keys. So I would like a backlit kb to replace the monstrous Cyborg (complete overkill btw).Anyone have a backlit kb they'd recommend? One option I am looking into is the Saitek Eclipse IIEclipse II KeyboardI can get it for about 50 bucks off amazon.com with free super saver shipping. Not too bad, but still pricey for a kb. Ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Beatdowns?

The Eclipse II is very good as I bought one for a family member, but I chose the Logitech G11. Two levels of blue back-lighting and also totally no lighting plus 18 function keys plus other goodies. I don't use most but the keyboard has a nice solid feel when key-pressing.

I use the Logitech 920-000914 - two of them, actually, one on my flightsim computer and one on my work computer. GREAT keyboard. I'm a writer (and also a touch-typist), and keyboards really matter to me. This is the best I've ever used, bar none - crisp feel, good action, good feedback. Illumination is excellent. I tried the Saitek Eclipse II and much prefer this one - found the Saitek mushy and slow. Subjective, of course, but for what it's worth... I highly recommend the Logitech.Alan

I am using Razer Lycosa - very nice KB, the lit is very gentle, in high angles barely visible. And the feel of hitting the keys is very good. Thy to google it for some tests.

I own the Eclipse II, and love it. You can tone down the brightness of the lights from full down to off via an analog dial so its very smooth all the way down (no predetermined 'stepping' of light levels), and at the touch of a button you can choose from blue, red, or purple. I use the blue most of the time, but I also like the purple - it's just....'different' ;)As to your comment about the space-bar above I think on the Eclipse II the spacebar is very good and has a satisfying feel when you press it, as do all the keys.I recommend it wholeheartedly :)

I now have two Logitech G11 keyboards and G5 mice for my rigs below and love 'em. On my FSX Server rig, I don't install the Logitech software as I don't want another process kicking-off during boot. On my FSX Cleint box, which also my general-use PC, I use all the G11 and G5 features available via the installable software. At night, with both keyboards lit up, it looks kinda like a MCP, LOL....

I second the Logitech 920-000914 The keyboard action is top quality as I type about 100WPM and its sooo smooth.. backlit level adjustable in 3 levels, very thin and solid construction.. no frills junk on it like meters and monitors which I do not like on a keyboard.

I agree with the fact that the Logitech keyboards are top.Personally I have the newest Logitech G19 keyboard and it's defendant the best keyboard I aver have had.As for the keyboard back light you can set any color you want.http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/p....ac=pl|5896||hpLogitech_G19_610x406.JPG

Another vote for the Eclipse II.Very basic as compared to the flagship models from logi, et al, and the backlighting is certainly far from perfect, but I have been absolutely pleased with it from day one.I guess the question is, is backlighting all you're after, or do you think you'd find some of the other stuff useful ?You could also keep an eye out for the logi G15 v1, it can usually be found for ~$50-60 if you look hard enough. For me, it's just too big for the limited amount of desk space I have left, whereas the Eclipse II is only marginally larger than any standard KB.
