Multi Crew Experience ATC?

If you downloaded it very recently, I think that might be an issue. When MCE gets 'patched', it actually gets completely replaced and you have to reinstall the latest version to 'update' it, and I think I'm correct in saying that the most current version has a bit of an issue which they are presently working to sort out. I got an email from MCE the other day mentioning this, which I'll post here:Dear crew member,After inviting you to download the new package, we realised there was aslight glitch in it. Nothing major, but we would rather you update to thenew package posted on June 3 rd 2009.The issue is connected to first-officer handling of the radio, so if you arenot using the feature, we leave it up to you to decide when to move.We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone, that the correctway to update, is first un-install MCE, and then install new package. You do not have to worry about your licence key, as it is not removed bywindows installer.Nor do you have to undergo training over and over.Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused. The FS++ teamNot sure if that is related to your issues, but it may be. It does indeed appear that some people have not been as lucky to get on with MCE as seemlessly as I managed, but I had to go off my own experiences when reviewing it, and they were very positive. But as you say, perhaps it needs a bit of a tweak to allow every system to get on with it as well as I managed. The one thing I will say though, is that you definitely have to do the training a few times to get faultless voice control. It's pretty good without having done any, but a few cracks at it will definitely see an improvement.Even if every aspect of MCE does not work faultlessly for you, or is not to your liking, it is the fact that it offers so much that is impressive, meaning that you could still gain a lot from it even if some aspects were not 'up your street', and that was something which led me to be suitably impressed with it as a package.Al

Hi AlanYeah, I downloaded and installed the program version that is loaded on their site ( I believe 1.56) but since I did get it on Wednesday and that's when they loaded up the latest version, I may just uninstall and redownload, especially if the versioning is different. Again, I see the value in the product but I just wonder why I had such an issue with the call sign and all- I think that was the root of the issue. I have done at least three of the training sessions and have a 19/20 sound card rating, which I assume is good and acceptable, right? At any rate, I have several tries left on the trial and will continue playing around with it with the hopes that it works out. Incidentally, Im hoping that the VoxATC 'No flightplan loaded' issue is resolved soon so I can test it as well.thanks again

"Is this FSX or FS9, I can't tell anymore???"

HelloYou can have Voice recognition in any ATC programAll you need is the software to send key commands to the ATC programie:Shoot 1.64 http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/Vac http://www.dwvac.com/Flight Assistant http://www.linder-network.de/thelindercomp...tassistant.htmlVoice Buddy http://www.edimensional.com/index.php?cPat...c94bdf3fb82b52bThen just create a profile for any of these using whatever phrases you want to useAll of these use Microsoft Sapi API, as does VoxATC and MCE.I use Shoot 1.64 but also used Flight Assistant in the past, both of which are freeware.

Thanks again Alan. I just go back from a 45 minute test with it and FINALY it accepted my new callsign so that was obviously fixed by exiting the sim and restarting it. It now calls me JETSET 242. However, ATC is still not responding so I may go and do more voice training to see if that helps.I tell ya, this product will be super if I can figure out the issues and a work around, or if there is an update one day.Mad Dog, I am aware of those products but if I can get MCE to work properly as Im thinking it should, I believe that the overall value will be much greater. Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into those. I did finally get VoxATC to work at lunch too- I can see it'd be an excellent program but I HATE the voices used by the ATC and other AI. That's what I LOVE about MCE- how it uses the default voices which to this date has never been topped in MSFS due to the fluidness, etc. unless Ive missed somthing.

HelloMCE uses the default voices, they may sound nice but the problem for me is that meansit is using the default ATC.Which is not very realistic when compared to RC , PFE or VoxATC.If you can live with the default ATC then MCE might be a useful tool.

Since this is getting really long, I will now finally jump to the problem that frustrated me most with trying to voice interact with ATC-I dialed up the Clearance Delivery radio freq and then called them up for my IFR clearance only to not get any response. I sat there for an hour trying to determine what my call sign was as I suspected (as did the copilot per his own words) that I was using an incorrect call sign. My aicraft registration number is N45ET and I was calling in per the documentation as 'November four five Echo Tango' yet I still got no response so I asked the copilot what our registration/callsign was. The only problem is that I had to ask him well over 20-30 times, because it was never really clear if I should use Lima Echo Alpha Romeo Juliett November four five Echo Tango, or Lima Echo Alpha Romeo November four five Echo Tango, or per the manual what should have sufficed was jush '4-5 Echo Tango'. Do you see what the problem is here? He is telling me that the callsign is not Learjet but he's spelling it phonetically. Do I call into ATC with a phonetic spelling or with simply 'Learjet'? Also notice that I could never tell if he was spelling out L E A R J E T or just "LEARJ N45ET" as I NEVER understood if there was an 'ET' to complete the 'Jet' portion of LEARJET or not. Finally I went in and chose a callsign of Jetset 242, and that's what ATC was calling me AFTER I had the copilot 'handle the radio' for me. I then took over control of the radio again and FINALLY ATC would recognize me when I called in as 'November 4-5 Echo Tango'. Folks, I wanted to pull my hair out. Seriously. This is insane and seems to me to be a bug, so I played around with it until 330 am and after it being a fairly dodgy application for talking to ATC, I called it a night.
I have to say that I experienced similar issues as well. It is worth noting how incredibly responsive the team at MCE has been. I emailed them so questions and suggestions over a weekend. By Sunday night I had a response and a new beta that addressed the questions...I think the team will keep iterating and working until MCE becomes a "must have" application for us.

Exactly what I thought, Maddog. The response time and SAPI recognition are peripheral to the main subject of the thread - how good the ATC is in MCE. I understand it is just not existent there despite the funny claim on the front that they have smth better than VoxATCX (yeh, ignorance is a bliss in the best case). I'd recommend everyone to give VoxATCX a serious try and see where the real potential is. Mind you VOX ATC is addictive after you've managed to tame it, it's a serious musthave to your best FSX add-ons.Thanks,Dirk.

Well, since this thread was started about MCE, it may not be nice to keep on and on about how other applications are better, except maybe to compare them. However, I will say that as I got the VoxATC trial to start today too, it was very nice how it seemed to be much more on the ball regarding response time, etc. and I can definately see how it could come very addicting! However, my issues with it currently (and after only 15 minutes so far):* The voices that are used for the 'AI', plus the lack of real AI integration within FS9* What I like about MCE compared to VATC is that it's a bit more flexible in that you can use various combinations to work with ATC where as my understanding is that VoxATC requires your response to be very riged and exact each and every time. I suppose you get used to what it expects and it becomes 2nd nature in time. I should have mentioned that while I do own RC, I dont use it often because I need a bit more hardware installed to run it the best (radio control heads, etc.) However, soon my RMUs will be installed and I hope RCV5 has VR. That would be nice. I just hope it's also for FS9.Here I am now, off to read thru the VoxATC manual!

Oh yeah, I meant to place this in my last response but another thing about VoxATC was that I noticed my screen/image quality was affected by having the VoxATC window open. When the window was closed out my graphics returned to normal. This is to me unacceptable, with another reason being that I dont want a dialogue box open too often, especially running a full size sim. Can that window be moved to a 2nd monitor and KEEP the main FS window in full screen?

FL180, you can buy AT&T voice sets and they sound like real voices with VoxATC. Also VoxATC shines in FSX particularly, but make sure to try MP Session VoxATC AI control in FS9 (if you have the UK flavor). Yet the most important is that VOX ATC is a spoken program and it is very strict to the real ATC control over your flight, also giving you some environmental AI traffic, which you hear and can see some on the ground btw, but just like in real life you are not supposed to stare at it too much, compared to the workload in your cockpit and listening to the ATC with surrounding traffic which you get in full on the radio in this program.Thanks,Dirk.

I did that in FS9 no problem. But it's good you'll learn how not to use it.Dirk.

I too have MCE and have been in contact with support regarding some concerns I had. One was that it would not allow a copilot on piston engine aircraft, such as the DC3 from MAAM nor any such aircraft. When I wrote them about this they immediately acknowledged that this was an oversight on their part and within a day or so released an update with instructions on how to have a copilot on any aircraft. Other concerns were also addressed and are even now doing another to initiate other suggestions I made.True, at times it does seem to not respond to my verbal request, but I'm finding out that simple requests get a response. So instead of saying "Tower, Cessna November 176 Charlie Mike at runway 31 Right, ready for take-off" which doesn't always bring a takeoff clearance, I say "Tower, 79 Charlie Mike ready to go" and I get an immediate response. So the less wordy one is the better the response. I tried VoxATC and while I liked some features, such as being able to include SIDS and STARS, I did not like the fact that I had to read exactly what came up on the screen as well as no AI interaction.Another aspect of MCE that I like is the interaction with the copilot. If I say "Thank you" after issuing a command like "Raise gear" he responds saying "You're welcome Captain". Nice. At time he becomes frustrated with you if you try to give him too much to do at the same time. He's told me on a couple of ocassions "I only have two hands Captain". That's funny. I have done a number of flights with the default Cessna and can do so with success as far as ATC is concerned. It is true that I can be interrupted by other aircraft or ATC even though I am speaking, and it can be diffulcult getting to communicate with ATC when at crowded airports, support is aware of this but may not be able to overcome that issue. If I need to, I can always say "Option one" if that is the response or request I wish to make in the ATC window, and let the sim transmit for me. Or use the 'key' method. Also did a flight with the MAAM DC3 with copilot and that went perfectly. For me MCE is the choice. Not perfect, but none are. It's a machine and a low cost simulator program compared to the multi milloin dollar ones. I want one of those but can't afford it now, or ever.Jim D.

Awesome response and info Jim, thanks for your time on this. I think that if a company could get the functionality of MCE but the excellent response of VoxATC, then it'd be a program well worth a pile of money. How do we get these updates like you got?

MCE sent me a special update as well. I assume the process was the same for me as it was for Jim. I sent MCE tech support an email (got address of of their website, [email protected]). I shared the things that I liked and those that I wished could be modified. They replied back within 1 day with some well thought out comments as well as providing me an FTP site for the latest updates. I was impressed with their customer service.Hope this helps,Doug

The latest update is on their website, ver. 1.5. Instructions are to uninstall the current version and then install the newer version. Voice training is not required after installing the new version. And if you have any questions, just contact support. They will respond in a day or less.Another feature that is outstanding is the ability to bring up sub panels or change views with a voice command. This does not require pushing the "mike" button as is required for ATC communication. For example, if you are in the 2D view, you can change to the VC by just saying "Switch to VC". Or from VC to 2D say "Switch to 2D" and it does it. Need the map view? Say "Open map" and you have the map view. Need a sub panel? Say "Open radio" or "open ATC", "Close ATC", "Close radio" and it's done. Sub panels will also open by saying "Open panel 6" and "Close panel 6" or whichever panel you need. Copilot will accomplish almost every command as well. He will turn on all lighting, lower or raise flaps, tune the comm and nav radios, just to name a few. I don't believe VoxATC does this, but I could be wrong. If you want to have the copilot with you on any aircraft, even ones that usually are flown only by a single pilot, these are the instructions from FS++:To force co-pilot on all aircraft, proceed as follows:Find the file "mce.ini" at the following pathOn Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\User_Name\Application Data\Multi Crew Experience\mce.ini (you need to enable hidden files and folders to find it)Open the file using notepadChange the following lineForceCopilot=0 (Found just below [OPTIONS])toForceCopilot=1Save the fileFrom now on, co-pilot will be available on all aircraft. Please note that, since we have made that possible, we did not check all the possible operations that can be done on a single aircraft. But as time permits, we will address any issue that may arise.Regards,The FS++ teamIf the line ForceCopilot= is not there, just add it.So you see they are keen to make this the best ATC addon possible.I'm still working with it, learning how to communicate with it, but for me, this is the best thing since sliced bread for ATC in FS. By the way, I'm using FS9 on XP.Jim D.
