June 3, 200917 yr Did anyone try and can comment on this feature in Multi Crew Expereince? I find their advertising claims on the website regarding their ATC feature quite dubious particularly in this part: - You think VoxAtc, and we have better in ATC feature that works with the simulator, not against it.I wish they really knew what VoxATC was first of all and I'm curious what they really had in their 'better in ATC feature' over VoxATC? Is it some sort of voice commands to click numbers for the default FSX ATC? Then give me a break, I dont need MCE for that, free Shoot software would suffice, for example. Anyway I've got RC3,4, PFE and different VoxATC flavors. These are all excellent products, but I know nothing of this obscure company that claims they have smth better.Thanks,Dirk.
June 3, 200917 yr Hello As far as i am aware they use the default ATC, so to claim they have better ATC is beyond funny. What really amazes me is that this got an AVSIM gold star award, despite barely being out of beta at the time of review. As you noted I am able to talk to RC, PFE, and the default ATC using Shoot 1.64 without problem.I also use VoxATC which is a program that the developers of Multi Crew Experience should really try before making such stupid claims
June 3, 200917 yr I had the trial but, did not buy it. I do believe it has potential if they get the bugs worked out. The biggest problem (in my opinion) is the delay when you speak to atc, you are always being cut off by other ai a/c. I have voxatc and plan to stick with that. what is shoot software? I googled it and nothing related to fs showed up

June 3, 200917 yr I like MCE very much, although it has some minor bugs in ATC. You use SAPI5 for communicating with ATC. It means You can simly talk to it - it uses default engine. DL the demo - You have 10 days for testing and the support is very good. Bartłomiej Ender
June 3, 200917 yr MCE was reviewed by myself. I'm not going to bang on about it here though, I'd simply encourage you to try it.I recommended it for some sort of AVSIM gong because I thoroughly tested it and found that it deserved the accolade for its large list of innovative features, good performance, coupled with wide-ranging compatibility with numerous operating systems and versions of FS. It pushes the envelope, simple as that.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

My issue with VoxATC for FS9 is no full support for visible AI traffic. If that was updated, then that'd be awesome. Maybe I will still try its demo too. In FS9 it's expertimental though (and only in the UK version) and nothing is promised, but I've used it since day one and it works just fine. In FSX versions VOXATC runs its own flightplans for the AI traffic as well, and it is much more advanced. I can only recommend this amazing ATC program that is far cry from the default one. I only hope that RC and PFE may come up with the voice communication in their next versions. Overall it's the same terminology and comms as if you were flying online in Vatsim. Its voice recognition does better than you'd communicate with the real controller online for sure, for me it is above 90%. Dirk.

These are all excellent products, but I know nothing of this obscure company that claims they have smth better.I apologize for going slightly OT here but can you give a small summary on the differences between RC4.3 and VoxATC as far as the "ATC aspect" is concerned (I do realize you can't talk to RC). I would be interested in MCE for its voice recognition capabilities had it not been using the default ATC. VoxATC sounds appealing but I've only tried it briefly some year ago (then my mike gave up on me and I didn't replace it before the demo timed out). I've been running RC4 for quite some time and the ATC is alot more realistic than the default one but I don't really know how it compares to VoxATC in depth. Could you please fill me in on that?Cheers/Jonas ----------------------------------------------------- i7 920 @ 3.6 GHz; 6Gb DDR3; Windows 7 Ultimate x64; Sim disk=300Gb 10,000rpm (VelociRaptor); OS disk=300Gb 7,200rpm Radeon HD 4870 X2; Audigy 2 ZS; Dual monitors=24" Dell Widescreen (TFT) & 19" BenQ (TFT) FSX Acceleration

June 4, 200916 yr Author Thanks Dirk, that's a good start. I have the US version, so what exactly do you mean by "In FS9 it's experimental...but it works fine"?Visible AI traffic - you see the traffic that you set up via VoxATC multiplayer session emulation. Can't remember why the developer called it experimental exactly, I recall something about limited support to the AI traffic issues if any. I've flown FSX recently and I like the ingame VoxATCX GUI much more (if you learn proper voice communications with VoxATC then you won't need the help panel / GUI in the screen at all). You can download the trial version and see yourself here:VoxATC UKCheers,Dirk.

I'm sure there are people who can answer your question much better than I. One thing I'd say is that I don't fly offline without VoxATC. RC and PFE are great teaching tools with extensive documentation and more control over the AI traffic, VOX ATC may not be as good in the control of AI around you (limited to some 10 or 20 nm in FSX), but it sure does the job decently. Unlike RC VoxATC is also great for your VFR flights as well as IFR, and it's all professional quite close to what you'd hear and speak to the ATC in r/w. It'll keep you very busy during the whole flight for sure. And important you're supposed to speak out same terminology like real pilots do. I'd recommend also buying AT&T voice sets, if you dont like Win's default voices.Dirk.

June 5, 200916 yr MCE was reviewed by myself. It pushes the envelope, simple as that.AlOkay Al, I spent 4.5 hours last night fiddling with MCE for FS9 and this is after the initial experience for 2-3 hours the night before. I can see where this program has some tremendous potential, but I am honestly surprised that anyone could get it to work as flawless as it appears that you did. However, in fairness, I probably have focused more on some functions that you may not have and in fact you didnt really mention what I find as the best part (ATC interaction) in your review of the product. Please everyone, keep in mind this is in no way a 'bashing' of the review, reviewer, or product. It's simply an opinion and a bit of venting after long times trying to accomplish what I thought was easy to do after reading the very excellent and seemingly thourough review. First, some background. I have been a hardcore FS user since Fs98 (1998) and over the past 2 years I have been fortunate enough to begin building a very realistic LJ45 full size simulator. Seeing as I have a full size sim, I enjoy the ability to have a real live person sitting in as a copilot manipulating the actual hardware, but I have always wanted to have a voice controlled ATC. Obviously here Im saying that the 'crew' portion of the package is neat, but Im most interested in the ATC portion.) VoxATC is something Ive always watched, but seeing as Im mainly an FS9 user (and my whole sim runs like butter using it vs. FSX) I have always been slow to try VoxATC since it somehow doesnt interact with AI as well as the FSX version. VATSIM is an awesome concept, but I do not like the very realistic and understandable fact that you cannot always find a controller online where you want to fly, and have an even less chance that there are controllers online that's a voice controller, plus you lose all your great looking AI that makes the airport look so much more realistic than 2 aircraft from fellow online flyers. Imagine typing to ATC while sitting in a full size sim. That's kind of the point of a full size sim- no need for mouse or keyboard. With this, Ive always wanted a system that used the default ATC but using voice to interact with the controllers. Now, after all the background nonsense, here's my response to the product's review and my issues that I see need addressing by the developers or my decision to not purchase the product will come rather easily.First off, the review. The review was very detailed and well thought out and everything that the review focused on was true. I completed the voice training as recommended and before looking at ANY documentation on how to get the copilot to help with the workload, I decided to take a chance and say 'Battery ON'. Voila! The battery was on in the sim and my display units came to life in their non-Avionics on state. I then said (with a big grin on my face) 'Avionics ON' and again, the copilot happily turned on the avionics bus and my display units were then wherring with the brilliant primus 1000 style software that I use for my sim. Now of course, immediately I asked the copilot to turn both items off since I have hardware to turn these items on, and he obliged. I then started a flight and went through several commands and it was cool to see it all happen fairly reliably and it got betteer after looking through the documentation. I then attempted to interact with the ATC and after getting frustrated, I simply had the copilot do it for me and that's where the not so fun began. The system handles ATC okay, but not the greatest. The biggest issue at this point was realizing how much lag would sometime be between the copilot working with ATC and ATC responding and vice versa. But then, the worst part of it all with the copilot handling ATC was how the copilot would often talk over the controllers, which was a mood killer for me. I finally went to be about 2 am and the next day I printed off the ATC section of the documentation that comes with the product along with the Commands section and another section that I thought would be useful. Then last night from 11pm to 330 am (you have to be resourcefull like that when you have a 6.5 month old daughter that comes first) I finally got a chance to really test the MCE program again, but with some documentation in hand. Since this is getting really long, I will now finally jump to the problem that frustrated me most with trying to voice interact with ATC-I dialed up the Clearance Delivery radio freq and then called them up for my IFR clearance only to not get any response. I sat there for an hour trying to determine what my call sign was as I suspected (as did the copilot per his own words) that I was using an incorrect call sign. My aicraft registration number is N45ET and I was calling in per the documentation as 'November four five Echo Tango' yet I still got no response so I asked the copilot what our registration/callsign was. The only problem is that I had to ask him well over 20-30 times, because it was never really clear if I should use Lima Echo Alpha Romeo Juliett November four five Echo Tango, or Lima Echo Alpha Romeo November four five Echo Tango, or per the manual what should have sufficed was jush '4-5 Echo Tango'. Do you see what the problem is here? He is telling me that the callsign is not Learjet but he's spelling it phonetically. Do I call into ATC with a phonetic spelling or with simply 'Learjet'? Also notice that I could never tell if he was spelling out L E A R J E T or just "LEARJ N45ET" as I NEVER understood if there was an 'ET' to complete the 'Jet' portion of LEARJET or not. Finally I went in and chose a callsign of Jetset 242, and that's what ATC was calling me AFTER I had the copilot 'handle the radio' for me. I then took over control of the radio again and FINALLY ATC would recognize me when I called in as 'November 4-5 Echo Tango'. Folks, I wanted to pull my hair out. Seriously. This is insane and seems to me to be a bug, so I played around with it until 330 am and after it being a fairly dodgy application for talking to ATC, I called it a night. I have to say, if they can work these issues out, I will purchase it but if not then I guess I will just have to hope that Radar Contact 5 will have VR eventually.I also want to say that the program is still useful for me as a full size sim owner to use the Copilot to tune radios, get other info, etc. and to possibly even do some flying occasionally. I just hope to figure out where I possibly went wrong with the callsign issue, or if it truly is a limittion/but in what seems to be a really great attempt at VR software for our sims. Comments and HELP is greatly appreciated! Eric Tomlin Full Size LJ45 Sim Builder Hangar45.net/ FlightLevel180.org "Is this FSX or FS9, I can't tell anymore???"
