Sound 5.1

Featured Replies

Hi all, Just a quick one....In fs9 the sound only comes out of my front 2 speakers. Is there a way to make use of the rear speakers and sub? I.e 5.1 surround...CheersIan

You could try some virtual surround modes if your sound card offers that capability.

Mike...

I run fs9 with 5.1 speakers. I get sound through all 5 speakers and the sub. Have you checked that the speakers are set up correctly ?Russell.

Try adding this to your FS9 config too...[sOUND]Channels=4SamplesPerSec=44100BitsPerSample=16

Yeah I have the speakers setup correctly. I also have that line in the fs9 cfg. Weird eh?

Just been playing with the settings. I have the Sound Blaster X.fi sound card. In the CMSS 3D settings, there's a slider for the surround sound. Mines set at the midway point, which gives sound to all speakers. Moving it up fades the rear speakers out...moving it down fades the front speakers out. Hope that helps.Russell.

Edit...You just may have fixed my problem! I activated that option. Excellent. Thanks!

Are there any benefits of this ?Can software (not FS9 I think..) perhaps put engine noise behind you, wind in front you and the buttons in the middle ?Any improvements for 5.1 ?

Hi Johan, I have the 5.1 for music, but, apart from filling the room with sound, I don't think it benefits fs9, certainly not in the way you say. There's no surround sound effect. I can't see your name without fond memories of Melvin Rafi's 747 with your FDE. A major leap forward in those days.Russell.

It's very possible to get surround sound from FS9, it just depends on your sound card.I dumped creative years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. For those of you guys who have 5.1 set ups you can get full surround sound audio with sound cards with C-media based chipsets. They have the option of Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect technology which upmixes ALL SOUNDS FROM YOUR SPEAKERS to full natural 5.1 audio. It also gives you the option of just regular stereo if you'd like, you have FULL control of all sound output with those cards.I've got an ancient Logitech Z-680 system and have it hooked up to my computer with an optical cable. It's nice to see the Dolby Digital logo or DTS light up on the receiver for all your sounds.Depending on your Sound System some will give you the option of a "Matrix Mode" which will hardware upmix sound, not nearly as good as the software upmix IMO.That's why if any of you want 5.1 for FS9 and all other sounds from your PC speakers you can't go wrong with those C-Media based cards. The best part about them is you won't go broke buying one, most are cheaper than creative.Emil

Well, I would'nt argue with that Emil. I know you know a thing or two about sound. I use some of your excellent sound sets.Russell.

With a little effort, PMSounds freeware from the Project Magenta guys can place sounds on other channels / audio devices.CheersJames

The Creative cards have the option for the virtual surround as well. I just needed to enable 5.1 speakers, enable the 3D and then balance the front/rear speakers to 50/50 and now I have surround sound. Not true Dolby 5.1 but at least I can hear the wind noise behind me now which is where that white noise on planes always seems to come from anyway :)Glad I found this thread, thanks for posting everyone,-P

Have a Wonderful Day
