June 22, 200916 yr Short of uninstalling all my add-ons (Traffic X and a few custom aircraft) and FS X itself, is there anyway to start FSX with the basic installation?I'm asking this because I'm having trouble with FSX getting to the opening screen. It would just sit at the splash screen and then the hourglass would just spin.I'm using a Posky 757 and it seems to eat up memory when I change my views a lot. I would get the dreaded out of memory errors. This usually happens after a long (3-5 hours) flight. It's happened a few times. Now my FS X won't even load. It would just sit there spinning with the CPU stuck at 50 percent. I've tried removing the Posky 757 from the simobjects with no results. I've also updated my video driver, renamed my config files (steve.cfg and fsx.cfg) and it still hangs. When I try to load FSX in Windows safe mode with networking, it's not letting me because it says that the grpahics card does not meet minimum requires for shader support. This product requires a gForce3/Radeon 8500 class or better graphics card.I've also done a clean boot (only MS Services running)My system specs:Pentium Core Duo 3 GHz3GB RAMVista Ultimate SP2 fully patched.GeForce 8800GT (latest WQHL driver installed)Soundblaster XFiThanks.
June 22, 200916 yr Have you tried binning the pilot log? That can sometimes corrupt and prevent FSX starting up.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 22, 200916 yr That did it! Thanks, Al!Hey ssurjapDid this happen after you installed vista sp2? Im about to reinstall FSX again for the fourth time due to the same problems you have had. Anyone else got any ideas? If this persists them im going back to XP and FS9 as I have spent more time mucking about with FSX / Vista than flying...... :( Cheers
June 22, 200916 yr I had a simular problem with Vista 64bit and found by going into Taskmanager under processes that SearchIndexer.exe was running so I ended the process and everything went to normal. CTRL + ALT + DEL and select processes and you will see it takes alot of cpu. Ken
June 22, 200916 yr I have also had this in relation to the fsx.cfg. For those who reference this post in the future, deleting the cfg and allowing it to rebuild has fixed FSX hanging for me. My opinion is purely based on observation, but it seems that FSX sometimes gets to the trusted section of the cfg and has trouble loading all a certain addon and hangs. Going through all your addons and giving permissions again is a pain but sometimes starting fresh works. Mike Keigley

Well, when i say fine i do get the occasional graphic disorders and screen flickers. Now i have nothing. Just a hanging non responding fsx opening screen.I guess I will have another go at a clean install tomorrow.Otherwise, any views on how fs9 copes in vista32?
June 22, 200916 yr Some things to think about.1. FS will not run in Safe Mode because only a few drivers are loaded, and certianly not big graphics drivers.B. Uninstalling FS does not get rid of everything that needs to go. You also need to elete the FSX(9) folder in Application Data. Save the Sim Objects folder is you have alot of addons. Also...3. I like to run a registry cleaner. CCleaner or Glary Utilities, if you learn how to use them, work well.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

That's usually the cause of FSX hanging on loading. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
June 22, 200916 yr Ulf BHey thanks for your concern. I was posting from my laptop over a hyper server. Took two shots to post. Looks like the second got cut off.
