June 29, 200916 yr I run FS9 & Windows XP on a E8400 with 2GB of DDR800 RAM. Will I see any difference by adding another 2GB?Thanks in advance for your input. JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
June 29, 200916 yr Probably no difference in FS, but your computer will thank you by running a little better over all.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
June 29, 200916 yr Probably no difference in FS, but your computer will thank you by running a little better over all.BobI just did the upgrade from 2 to 4GB Ram. Bob is exactly right. I have seen little difference in FS9 performance, but my overall system is smoother and more responsive. For $60, I feel like it was worth it. FYI, I run FS9 on a core 2 duo E6850 and XP Home edition 32 bit.One thing that has helped, however, was doing some windows tweaks that NickN recommended. (I think the post is at simviation.com) HUGE difference in performance after those tweaks. Basically, he just gives you some tips to streamline your system. Detailed, easy to follow instructions.

July 2, 200916 yr I run FS9 & Windows XP on a E8400 with 2GB of DDR800 RAM. Will I see any difference by adding another 2GB?Thanks in advance for your input. You should list your system specs.Actually you might get a little more performance. But don't expect miracles.System memory is very reasonably priced these days so it might be worth a try.Which Windows XP are you using, 32 or 64 bit?If 32 bit then you can use the '/3GB /userva=2560' entries in the boot.ini file.Depending upon your motherboard specs you might be able to run 4gb of faster memory.Make sure your memory sticks are all the same kind!Do your research! Here is a good forum for technical assistance ---> http://forums.guru3d.com/
July 3, 200916 yr I have the same specs as windycloud owns. I have also planned going with 2 another GB of RAM, to improve my FS9.What do I need to do, just to improve it a little bit? I'm not too satisfied with my current condition!I'm facing with some bad fps (note just to airport gates with addons and aircraft like PMDG).I really appreciate your help.Fatmir
July 4, 200916 yr FatmirWhat video card do you have?Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
July 4, 200916 yr I would think your system should run FS9 just fine. Define "bad fps" in your case.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
July 4, 200916 yr Sounds like to me, Fatmir, that you may need to optimize the FS9.cfg and your system. I can run FS9 Maxed with traffic add ons and full clouds with any complex add on aircraft and get no lower than 25 fps in the densest add on scenery. Mind you I have an aging Pentium D 945 (3.4ghz), 3gb ram, and the same video card you do (only 1 gig memory) ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 4, 200916 yr Well, I face with some bad fps, only at gates (airports with addons) and when I'm connecting online. Also I'm running on 1680x1050, 22" LCD monitor.Could you send me your tweaked fs9.cfg?Regards,Fatmir
July 6, 200916 yr More RAM won't improve the framerate unless your computer is constantly paging to disk while you're flying. 2GB should be enough for FS9 and XP. If you were to switch to FSX and/or Vista or Win7, 4GB of RAM would improve things. The improvement would be in terms of fewer pauses while switching views etc. Overall framerate would be unchanged. To improve the actual framerate you need a more powerful CPU and to a lesser extent, video card. -
July 7, 200916 yr Can it solve out of memory issue? And If you increase from 2 to 4Gb, is the /3Gb tweak working more efficiently? It does not work on my system (XP 32bits, FS9.1) as I get stutters after long flying.ThanksGhiom
