July 7, 200916 yr Your system is not really strong enough as a gaming computer, and MSFS is VERY demanding -- much more so than most other games. 1 gb of memory just won't cut it, I'm afraid.I would try to reinstall FS9 and then uninstall all my addons first but your C: drive may not be big enough now to let you do that though. If not, try using system restore to get back to where you were just befor you uninstalled FS2004, then remove all your addons first and you can then manually delete all the leftover folders. You might then be able to do a reinstall, but I wouldn't hope for too much with your hardware specs. I'm really not surprised your system has been crashing, my freind . . . July 7, 200916 yr Author Don't worry, I know,I am getting a new computer when Windows 7 comes out, (hopefully next year) so I can't wait, then i'll also get fsxSo, yea, where can i get Sytem Restore?

It should :( be there... If not I don't know where else in an XP machine.Though I would look at your HDD, if you only have 2.~ GB free then you might want to clean it out. That might be the problem. Windows might be trying to use Virtual Memory...but I have noticed unreliable and sluggish performance when a computer gets low like yours of HDD space on the primary OS partition. July 7, 200916 yr Those specs are fine for fs9.......Well, I don't want to argue but the OP said he has a lot of addons and his system keeps crashing. My install is almost 90 gig. Those specs are probably marginal, at best. Will it run? Yeah. Will he have problems? Probably. Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. July 8, 200916 yr Author Well, I don't want to argue but the OP said he has a lot of addons and his system keeps crashing. My install is almost 90 gig. Those specs are probably marginal, at best. Will it run? Yeah. Will he have problems? Probably.YES! Uninstalled unneccesary software, my C drive is back up to 4.5 gb,I think my FS kept crashing when I tried to load POSKY 777 because it probably took up too much space off my C drive, and Fs2004 need atleast 1.8gb to run, so once i loaded 777 then it must have gotten under this, and crashed! (It was installed D drive)What's virtual memory?
July 8, 200916 yr Hello, What's virtual memory?Virtual memory is a space on your hard disk reserved automatically by WinXP (the amount depend of the quantity of physical memory available)In case you run short of RAM (physical memory) the program(s) will use the virtual memory (it's very slow for obvious reasons)You can find the virtual memory space in the root of your hard disk "C" if you don't have specify a other place manually.pagefile.sysYou can also go to the settings of the virtual memory:StartParametersControl panelSystemAdvancedPerformances - parametersAdvancedVirtual memoryRegards.Gus.
July 8, 200916 yr That drive you use is going to be REALLY bogged down. 4.5 GB free is TINY. :( Can't you install to the other drive, or is that someone else's? i.e. Mom, dadAlso, I think it's important to mention, Gus, screwing around with that stuff can cause problems for novice users... ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 8, 200916 yr Hello, Also, I think it's important to mention, Gus, screwing around with that stuff can cause problems for novice users...Indeed .. and supposed I'm not a novice user .. nevertheless I let Windows manage automatically the virtual memory ..Specifics settings are possible .. but FS2004 don't require any manual settings ... Anyways .. if FS2004 or any other program need to use the HD virtual memory .. it will run bad (slow) .. and as consequence it's a alarm bell ringing for add some more RAM to the system Regards.Gus.

July 9, 200916 yr Hello,Nadan wrote: Cool, I will get extra RAM, now my fs2004 keeps shutting down error: Your computer has run out of available memory....How can I fix this?Again...how can I get to virtual memory? From your specifications (almost the same of mine BTW) you have a amount of 1GB of RAMIt must be enough for run FS2004 fairly (one more GB is better of course!) if you allow the max of this memory to be disponible for FS2004 (stopping all the no necessary programs running in background)Even with 1GB RAM I never had such error message "Out of memory"You must know .. memory is sometime not the direct cause of this error message .. but instead a consequence of a memory leak coming from FS2004 (a bad file .. etc .. many posts already about this prob)So .. you can add 1or 2 or 3 GB RAM and have the "out of memory" message in case of a memory leak.My raw specifications:P4 3GHZ1GB RAMWinXP SP1aNvidia TI 4600 128MBHow get to virtual memory (I suppose settings ??)I can only suggest what I posted above:You can also go to the settings of the virtual memory:StartParametersControl panelSystemAdvancedPerformances - parametersAdvancedVirtual memoryRegards.Gus.
