July 9, 200916 yr Figured everyone would want to see some shots. :( KSTL in the background where my full flight of 29 plus crew just departed for KCOU.Taken after reaching my cruise altitude of 10,000 feet and intercepting the 267 radial out of STL.Checking the gauges.
July 9, 200916 yr Great shots, Mike! The last two really look like photographs. What's amazing to me about this airplane is how it handles -- you get a strong sense of inertia, during taxi, takeoff, and any hand flying. I've shot 9 landings now, and the learning curve has been pretty steep. I'm getting better pretty quickly, but it was a shocker at first to discover how hard it is to get the J41 to slow down. July 9, 200916 yr Commercial Member Abat-It's known as a "Clearance Delivery Radio" because you can use it to check ATIS, talk to Clearance Delivery before powering up the heavier power using avionics if you only have battery power available. It's other, not so unimportant use: Provides you with a radio in the event that you are down to battery power only. :-) Robert S. Not just how your eyes perceive things, but also how smooth she hand flies. Just feels great to take her off the runway and climb.
July 10, 200916 yr I noticed the Engine readings are duplicated. Now I realize they would be close but... would both engines show exactly the same readings? I would expect the temps between the engines to vary? Please Advise.Peter Osborn Peter Osborn
July 10, 200916 yr Can we take frames? I would like to know about performance, I only have a i7 on the way with DD3 Ram?JT Collin
July 10, 200916 yr *drool*I FSX gets horrible performance on my computer, but it looks so good I am considering buying it. I look forward to seeing the complete "official" feature list. Joe Sherrill
July 10, 200916 yr Peter,Not sure how Mike has his engine controller set up -- I'm using a CH Throttle Quadrant, and the engine readings are definitely not exactly equal.JT, it's early in the beta process, so the numbers we give you now probably won't mean much by the time it goes gold. Seems like most of the testers have commented on how smooth it is, though. The 3D gauges really look great! July 10, 200916 yr Figured everyone would want to see some shots. :( KSTL in the backgroundNice city pair. That KSTL looks darn familiar!! :( Is that my KSTL by chance?Anyway, thanks for posting the shots. July 10, 200916 yr I'm still struggling like crazy getting it to slow down, and then when I finally do, I feel like I'm crawling along because I'm so used to the high speeds in the MD-11. :(Hi Mike,One good technique is to slow to 200kt which is the gear and flaps 9 speed limit while in level flight. Change the AP/FD vertical mode to IAS and set 200kt with the thumbwheel. Then you can bring the power levers to flight idle and set the condition levers to "FLIGHT".This lets the airplane to descend as quickly as possible, and allows you to configure the gear and flaps for the approach without having to level off to reduce speed. This technique is something I saw fairly regularly in places like Dayton where speed is usually at the pilot's discretion but ATC loves to leave you high, then "slam dunk" you for the approach. If you're still trucking along at 250kt in the descent, there's no way to slow down and you'll be late configuring if you can get stabilized at all.Regards,Nick
July 10, 200916 yr guys, could you let us know how the F.I. stop is modelled - is there a click or a lock or what?thanks in advance, i'm very interested to knowjlm
July 10, 200916 yr Mace,Tell me more about your scenery...I am looking to add more scenery for FSX. Thanks.Peter Osborn Peter Osborn
July 10, 200916 yr guys, could you let us know how the F.I. stop is modelled - is there a click or a lock or what?thanks in advance, i'm very interested to knowjlmThat's a good question. One I've wondered about myself...It will be tricky to correctly implement the shift from PG to Beta operation without having two distinct ranges of motion. Perhaps a keystroke is used to simulate coming back through the flight idle baulk?Additionally, the engine response to various combinations of power lever and condition lever positions is quite an interesting relationship. Add to that the APR, NTS and TTL, and you've got yourself a complex simulation.I'll bet that they've captured the essence of the geared turboprop very well. It might be a bit easier for those who have a hardware throttle, but thats just a guess on my part.Regards,Nick
