July 11, 200916 yr Fantastic screenies. I agree that the last two look almost real. Thanks for posting them.Rhydian
July 11, 200916 yr Want to see a real J41 go through it's startup procedure? Take a look at these videos. I hope PMDG can nail those engine sounds, though I'm pretty sure the windows were open during this startup. :( Curt Curt Branch
July 11, 200916 yr in the first video the FO put some datacard in a device on 1:45 minute - was this filled with mp3 for cruzing? -g- best regards, Alexander Barger
July 11, 200916 yr I'm just wondering if the pmdg one will be able to do this?... That would be really cool if it did... a self pushbackJohn Ellison
July 11, 200916 yr She can easily back herself up, not that that is unusual for any reversable pitch prop job... used to watch C130s back out of revetments all the time when I was at Tan Son Nhut. Dan Downs KCRP
July 12, 200916 yr I'm just wondering if the pmdg one will be able to do this?... a self pushback :( The JS41 is not authorized to push back under its own power... even though Eastern clearly does it in practice :( That said, of COURSE the PMDG JS41 can do it. Just be sure to have someone watching behind you when you do. :( Best Regards, Kurt "Yoda" Kalbfleisch Pinner, Middx, UK Beta tester for PMDG J41, NGX, and GFO, Flight1 Super King Air B200, Flight1 Cessna Citation Mustang, Flight1 Cessna 182, Flight1 Cessna 177B, Aeroworx B200
July 12, 200916 yr Commercial Member If Eastern do it, then surely it must be allowed? Just remember to let it roll forwards before braking...EDIT: He appears to be really shifting backwards there.Best regards,Robin.

I'd imagine it to be quite dangerous without a spotter or spotters either in direct contact with the pilot or via hand signals due to the inability of both pilots to see behind them. But I found this... Matthew Bellette
July 12, 200916 yr You're absolutely right, Matt. We had a discussion about this among the testers, and CAPT Randazzo made it clear that when he was flying J41's, company policy was "no backing", for that reason. The PMDG J41 AOM currently says "backing is prohibited". Of course it can be done -- but what's the risk and are the company lawyers willing to take that risk? For what it's worth, the USAF guidance on backing the C-130 says that the rear door must be open, the ramp lowered to the assault position, and the Load Master must be on the IP with the cockpit and monitoring aft before backing is allowed.Funny story: At the end of a flight in a 757, we were stuck without a gate and had to sit for a few minutes waiting on the tarmac. The flight deck crew had, of course, announced the delay as we were clearing the runway, and apologetically reminded people to remain in their seats until we'd arrived at the gate and they'd turned off the seatbelt sign. As soon as we rolled to stop, though, people were out of their seats, ignoring the flight attendant's repeated requests to return to their seats until we were at the gate. Finally, the captain came over the PA system: "Folks, with you all standing in the aisle, I can't see to back up." Everyone immediately got into their seats...and a few seconds later, it sank in. We all got a chuckle out of it, but people stayed in their seats until we made the gate. July 12, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi Matt,I was watching that yesterday.Another aircraft that comes to mind is the DC-9/MD-8x. It could be done, but it was easy to stand it on its tail if care wasn't taken. I think it is an airline thing whether it is permitted or not (obviously if the manufacturer allow it too).Best regards,Robin.
