John's prediction is as good as any. There is not a scheduled release date, and yes the FMS is still in testing along with everything else in the airplane. The release is days, or weeks, or months away. We don't know when it will be... geeze guys.

FMS not finished yet? So the release is still weeks or even months away?
Sorry, Matt. I didn't mean to give that impression. The FMS is pretty far along. What I should have said in my original answer was that the real GNS-XLS does interface with the CDUs and will set the NAV frequencies, but I'm not sure what ancillary functions will be present in the release version. The J41's been in beta for only three weeks, so please be patient!

C'mon guys - J41 was developed in the late 80-ties, we all know what navigation technology (roughly) was then available and installed on brand new aircraft so what are we debating here? Whether PMDG will implement some minute detail of this or that? I personally don't care if for example offset parallel track will be implemented or not, or whether holdings can be flown on A/P, it doesn't cause me no to sleep at night. I hope no one get this aircraft for the sake of its automation, otherwise you better wait for an Airbus. :(

Michael J.

I think you can safely say that I will not be purchasing the J41 for its automation :(

I hand fly 99% of the time, but my philosophy is this: if you're going to include a system, do it properly. ;) I certainly don't want to be reading that x function was left out "because FS can't do it". I can handle that as far as terrain mapping and weather RADAR for reasons that have been covered before, but the more fundamental systems should be present and correct.Whether PMDG like it or not, they've set a level that is, I think fairly, expected of all their products. The J41 isn't being touted as a "budget line" aircraft, so naturally detail and deep systems modeling are expected, in line with their other products.
Full LNAV, advisory VNAV, company routes, offset routes, holds, PBD/PB-PB/Lat/Long based waypoints, and even a feature called Pseudo-VORTACs.The EHSI can be displayed in "Arc" format, and will then display the FMS route, as well as VOR's.When you enter your route into the FMS, any Navaid (as opposed to intersections) will display frequency information for you.If the RMU's are placed in the correct mode, the FMS will autotune the NAV receivers. Similarly, you may manually tune the NAV radios from the FMS TUNE page by entering the station ID (or the frequency), through the RMU's, or the Clearance Delivery Unit (tertiary).
I don't see anything there that has not been done in the past by PMDG, so there is no good reason not to expect to see it in the J41.Best regards,Robin.
