REX 2.0 corrupted my exe.xml for UT2

Featured Replies

Rex2.0 made the oversight of overwritting exe.xml rather than appending to it, i dont have time to start reinstalling all kinds of crapcan some kind person with Ut2 cut and paste the contents of their exe.xml here so i can use it to replace the stuff that REX 2.0 messed up.It is very sad to see that on the REX website the thread where folks where leading up to possible fix has been locked cause the users dont have the right signature. Please cut paste your exe.xml below if you have ut2, i will edit whatever paths need editing and put it in my stuff, hopefull with this i can avoid a reinstall.Goes to show you must let others install stuff first and read forums before trying to update FSX with any new software. SO you have heads up on any issues. Its a no brainer that you append to system files not overwrite them. All UT2 entry in my exe. xml is gone.!!!!!NEVER INSTALL ANY NEW STUFF TILL YOUV READ FORUMS FIRST.!!!!!Please cut paste your UT2 entry please. Thanks in Advance

oK THINK I JUST STUMBLED ON A WAY TO FIX THIS with little hasslei started ut2 window and i dont know what happeend, but starting the ut2 window and then restarting FSX has put the ut2 stuff back in exe.xml.i dont know what the particular order of things is but its got to do with starting the ut2 window with FSX either running or shutdown. So for others having this problem, no need to waste life time doing yet another reinstall, just have a play with ut2 ide until it updates the exe.xml file with the ut2 entry that rex.20 cleverly deleted, instead of appending like all addon software do.Good job i fixed this, i have no time reinstalling, or updating my signature on REX forum, i am already a member of too many internet forums and cant keep up. All i wanted from REX was a fix to the problem, but they already locked the topic that was close to someone posting a fix such as i have put above. Very typical that they have made an error which is understandable, but then to block the avenue where people try to free of charge help each other to fix the problem goees to show there are no saints in the siming community either. This fix is free for all those who have the problem, and are too busy in thier lifes to update thier REX forum sig, or do a reinstall of UT2 and REX, cuase according to rex forum some folks have had to reinstalll REX and UT2 to fix this bug.

Jaskan,I was about to buy REX v 2.0 until I saw your post. I too have Ultimate Traffic 2 and it works fine now. How do I install REX v 2.0 and not screw up UT2? I am a relative newbie and am not sure I understand what the exe.xml is and where to find it. (I have backed up my FSX folder to an external USB driven 250 GB hard drive.) Any advice is appreciated as I do want to get the REX v 2.0 if I can, but do not want to lose/screw up UT2 as it is a great addon.Alexp/s what is the UT2 ide file anyway?Alex

It is very sad to see that on the REX website the thread where folks where leading up to possible fix has been locked cause the users dont have the right signature.
That is reason enough not to buy the product.

1 - REX say they are working on fix for this asap, if you wait for fix then you should be fine.2 - The simple option i think is to install rex start fsx so rex can complete its install, start a flight, then close fsx. then start the ut2 window that allows you to setup ut2 traffic options. i think opening the ut2 tool window seems to fix the problem. i also suggest to leave the ut2 setup tool open then start FSX while ut2 tool is open.3- The more complex solution If you want to install now,you need to backup the file exe.xml. use windows search to find the file exe.xml it should be under (for winXp )C:\ Documents and settings (for vista ) C:\Users Make a copy of the file and put somewhere safe. when you install REX it completly overwrites the UT2 entry shown below<Launch.Addon> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Name>UT2</Name> <Path>D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\\Flight One Software\Ultimate Traffic 2\UT2Services.exe</Path> <NewConsole>True</NewConsole> </Launch.Addon> go to the exe.xml you saved before and just cut and paste your version of the section above back to the file when things look good this is what should be in the file for (REX2.0 and UT2). In this file REX is first and UT2 next. see below<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?><SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0"> <Descr>Launch</Descr> <Filename>exe.xml</Filename> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad> <Launch.Addon> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Name>Real Environment Xtreme - Weather Engine 2</Name> <Path>D:\Real Environment Xtreme\rexwxengine2.exe</Path> </Launch.Addon> <Launch.Addon> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Name>UT2</Name> <Path>D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\\Flight One Software\Ultimate Traffic 2\UT2Services.exe</Path> <NewConsole>True</NewConsole> </Launch.Addon></SimBase.Document>THis is why i recomend you backup the file and cutpaste back the section overwritten by REX2.0 install.option 2 is easier and its what worked for me, but it happened by mistake so i am not sure if ut2 tool window needs to be opened with FSX running or closed. But openeing that window certainly fixed my issue without any cut paste .Hope that helps

That is nothing compared to the UT2 forum where people who did not already purchase the product could not be allowed to log into the support forum in order to see any possible issues before purchase, they said you need to purchase the product before you can enter support forum. What do you have to say to that, Avsim admin made fun of me on a topic, added one last post of insult to me, then locked the topic, when i tried to alert folks about issues i was having with PMDG causing screen corruption in FSX.I think personel from all these addon companies and the forum admins are a very close nit community, so they have agreed a maximum standard of customer service which they dont want to exceed.Frankly speaking, i think some of these addon companies treat folks like kids, when it comes to support. And the reason they do so is cause tobe perfectly honest, they dont and possibly cant afford proper customer service cause FSX is a complex product and the market for the product is not big enough to generate them enough cash to provide 2009 standard prodcut support.Far too often we are the real beta testers of these products, and thats not so bad as long as the addon makers stop treating folks like kids and saying out of this world outragious stuff like (you need to buy the product before you can see what problems exisiting users are facing in support forum). If you dont have hours upon hours to spend sorting FSX issues, eg if you have a life, never buy stuff till its been out a while and you have visited forums to hear what folks have to say.The time i have spent fixing stuff related to addon products on FSX is worth about 100 times all the money i have ever spent on fsx+addons+and my i7 pc.From now on, ill will race to be the last to purchase any new addon, i just dont have the time for fixing things anymore.

Agree with you there Jaskan.I almost never buy a brand new FS addon as it will usually need a service pack to fix the usual bugs. I have no interest in being an unpaid beta tester and I have no desire to risk corrupting my FSX install (just takes too much time to reinstall everything).I think one of the reasons companies lock support forums to purchasers only is because there are so many people using pirated copies and they don't want to give them any free help. On the other hand I always think twice before buying anything from companies that restrict access to their support forums. I like to know of any possible problems BEFORE I buy something.

Hey guys I can understand your frustration, but you need to understand there is NO WAY to test compatitbility with EVERY add-on or every configuration that has been created for FSX.So we ask kindly for your patience in the matter until we get it resolved. It is our TOP priority to get it fixed asap!!!

rstough: I understand that it can be very difficult to test every addon and configuration. This is the same for any addon developer. It is just that customers have become beta testers now. It is almost guaranteed that within a few weeks of a new product being released there will be a service pack to fix any bugs that have slipped through the system. Am I upset about it? Not really, I can be very patient and I will just wait until the bugs are ironed out (except, I couldn't wait for the RealAir Duke :) , another addon that had a quickly released service pack). This just seems to be the way business is done with FS addons nowadays (shrugs shoulders in a "what can you do about it?" way emoticon goes here). It's good to here you are working on a fix though.

This is not such a big issue and I don't understand why some folks are getting so hysterical!Just run the UT2 utility once after installing REX2 and that's all.(@ Frankla, UT2 stands for" Ultimate Traffic 2" :--))

I'm sorry, but I saw this same line being spun at the REX forums. Is it a canned response? The OP's complaint deals with an XML file, for goodness sake. How difficult is it for whoever was doing the programming to check and see if the XML file was the default file size or was larger. If larger, you go in and append the data. If it's the original size, go ahead and overwrite. If I get it, why doesn't the programmer, especially before it messes up people's systems?Again, we're not talking compatibility with "EVERY" other addon in the FSX market. We're talking about a plain text file, that because of it's formatting gets to be called XML. Geez, skip the excuses, say we messed up and that you'll get it fixed. Unless you're planning a career in politics? What happen to common sense and logic within the computer programming community?

Frankia UT2 stands for Ultimate Traffic 2The traffic program with best AI models, and fairly frame rate friendly, but you do get occasional pauses when traffic is being updated. It win over all other Ai traffic programs with the best models, but the pauses you get sometimes when its updating traffic is not thye best.I currently prefer it to TrafficX that i used to use, TrafficX had some 747 models that looked like 737. but no pausesCheck flightOne.com

Just run the UT2 utility once after installing REX2 and that's all.
When I start my UT2 it minimises and I cannot set focus to it. When I hover the cursor over the UT2 on the taskbar it says 'Error'. Looking at the running applications there are 2 UT2 windows, 1 must be the main window and the other the window displaying the 'error'.I cannot switch to any of these and I have to end both processes.I have restored both my XP and FSX partitions from a backup image a few days ago so not a problem now but your solution was not applicable in my situation. Will wait for the patch from the REX team before I reinstall REX 2.0Graham

To fix this problem I re-ran the original UT2 installer file (C:\Flight One Software in my case) installed the latest hotfix from the UT2 website and bobs your uncle.Took all of one minute to sort out.No point in getting hysterial folks, do you do everything perfect all the time??????Bryan.
