It's a Sad Day When it gets like this .. Orbx is closed

I think you have 2 types of pirated software users. those that use it, try it, like it, then buy it. and people who just can't really afford it in the first place but want to use the product anyway. And finding it on the internet is so easy anyone can do it. The fs community just isnt that big to justify the huge budget needed for an fsx addon in tough economic times

How are they protecting their product? It is still for sale.

I see this downloads/pirating are not lost sales argument-does it not bother those that subscribe to this theory that stealing is stealing? Is our world becoming a better place with this thought process-that stealing really doesn't matter if it doesn't effect some imaginary bottom line which is monetary-real or imagined? If you go to your local grocery store-pocket some fruits/vegies-it probably won't be noticed or effect sales-after all they throw half the stuff away every week. Would you personally feel ok doing so? If you saw a person stuffing avocados into their jacket would you just shrug your shoulders and say it really isn't hurting anything? When the companies bottom line suffers which effects the grocery bagger because of these actions and he/she takes a paycut, is that ok? Seems to me those who study history are well acquainted with the ramifications such a laise faire attitude.Sorry but I can't fathom this whole logic. When Avsim was hacked-there seemed to be a universal outrage at how such an event should happen. Pirating software-just part of life and our world-get used to it-if developers didn't charge so much they wouldn't bring it upon themselves-yada yada.Their site is down for 24 hours-they are making a statement about piracy-and simmers are complaining about them and not the pirates that do this. I shake my head in amazement.....

I meant when they release the ORBX America add ons, they should also tie the patches to a CP, something more than the one that validates the order, ASA connects to the server to install and validate the serial, you guys are doing it the way it should be.Anyhow, it must quite sad for them what happened - a day or so after release ...

Exactly, talk about being upside down where right is wrong, and wrong is right. Nuts!Stephen

No one is saying piracy is okay. If that's what you're getting out of this thread, you need to read it again. -Alex

Pathetic, simply pathetic. I've spent the last few hours studying up on piracy and I'm just disgusted with what I've learned. I've got to believe some of the posts I have seen seemingly in support of such criminal behavior is nothing more than the author searching for like minded people to help justify there actions, and perhaps relieve there own guilt. Such a shame the direction this world is headed. I weep for the future.

Some wonderful logic there. Some people criticize Orbx, ergo those people must be pirates. -Alex

I'm not justifying it. I'm just giving the reality. The fs market just is not that big. And the economy is making it even smaller. So to claim those people would all be sales and they are magically lost is not right in most cases.

You don't happen to be an Alex from a past life do you-cause your logic seems very familiar...

So therefore if the fs market is not big enough and the economy is bad stealing is now justified...

Given that your post was directly after mine (and before) without a quote I'm assuming that's directed at me. My apologies if I'm incorrect. Assuming it is, I don't recall ever stating that anyone who criticized Orbx is automatically a pirate. I'm referring specifically about those who have gone into further detail explaining pirating in a manner that seems to justify it at least to an extent.

My mistake then. But really I think they're trying to explain why it happens, not necessarily justifying it. -Alex

You are missing the point, but yes, stealing is stealing and it's wrong, but do you really think those hundreds per second of units that are pirated represent last sales ? We are being told that devs are closing shop because the pirates ( stealing "hundreds per second" ) are vastly reducing sales, but what about the economy ? I used to spend at least $500 ( sometimes way more ) a year in add ons, now I'll maybe spend $100 tops. Sales are down at my job, and that means my pay is down as well. I just don't have the extra income I used to, and the first thing I do is stop the spending on things I don't need. All of my basic needed things like food, heat, gas, insurance have increased in price, so it's a double wammy. Less money being made, and everyday needed items cost more. The sales of EVERYTHING is way down because of the poor economy, do these devs think they won't be effected ?

They should get their site back ASAP. I was considering purchasing FTX AU Blue today, but if I did I wouldn't be able to get the SP3 update for it. So until their site is back up they will be losing even more sales.

a. Some people will always steal.b. Addon makers will never be able to prevent this.I guess this ORBX stunt is just hoping that those who do steal stop and think about their actions before they download another torrent.
