August 25, 200916 yr I was amazed how often my Texture Max Load changed from 4096 to 1024! I can't imagine how many times I flew and this value changed. That was bothersome, because REX depends on the 4096 texture for its true resolution. So, I downloaded and installed the free Texture Max Load Editor and have it set to come on when FSX starts. Sometimes I have to change it, and sometimes I don't. I really like it, and hope someday that there is a way to maintain the Texture Load permanently without the config changing.Question: After Texture Max Load Editor comes on and I apply the settings, is it necessary to minimize it or can I just close the program and fly in FSX? I wasn't able to find an answer to that question in any reading about the program. Thanks.Stansoftware link:http://www.frostysoftware.com/
August 25, 200916 yr You can check your Task Manager to see if TML Service is taking care of your textures. Start it, set it, check the box for the background service, and close it. That's what I do. To be on the safe side, I start it whenever I open up FSX and make sure it is running. I have not found that you can set it once then forget it forevever, because after reboots or whatever, I'll still notice the texture has gone back down.
August 25, 200916 yr Moderator ok, I'm puzzled here. I have mine set at 4096 and they almost NEVER change. Mainly because I use a freeware program called CFGEDIT to make changes to the FSX.CFG file.I'm curious why your setting changes so much. As I understand it, the setting should not change unless you change settings in FSX.Am I missing something here?IAC, locate cfgedit and be done with it.Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
August 25, 200916 yr The value WILL NOT change unless you change any of the parameters in your display settings while in FSX. If you don't fiddle with your display settings then I promise you the Texture Max Load value will not change!
August 25, 200916 yr Wasn't the whole point of TML Service to keep your 4096 despite messing with settings in FSX?
August 25, 200916 yr Author Wasn't the whole point of TML Service to keep your 4096 despite messing with settings in FSX?I agree. Is there something that needs to be done so that messing with FSX DOESN'T CHANGE the texture?Stan
August 26, 200916 yr AFAIK even with the TML program run prior to FSX or running while FSX is in motion, if you change a scenery setting or almost any setting, this value will revert to 1024 no matter what. As I understand it, TML program keeps the texture max load entry set to 4096 while NOT in game, that way the user doesn't have to edit the FSX.cfg file before (or after) every flight sim session.Let me add one more thing. Say you run the FEX/REX 4096 SHD textures....If you change your scenery settings in-game, you will then see only 1024 clouds in FSX, no matter if TML program is running or not. You'd have to physically exit FSX, then run the TML program, then restart FSX to gain back your 4096 SHD cloud textures. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
August 26, 200916 yr I asked over at Frosty. If what you say is true, I don't see the purpose of the service. You would just run TML before your session to make sure it reset the config file (or manually edit it, for that matter) then you would have to leave everything alone. Your config file shouldn't change anyway, if you are never changing any settings, should it?
August 26, 200916 yr I don't understand why so many people seem to be changing their display settings on a regular basis. Can I ask what it is that you are changing and why?
August 26, 200916 yr Because there is not one combination of sliders in FSX that is perfect for all situations. Unless you mean why does the setting change in the config, and that is because FSX changes it every time you touch a slider in your display options, apparently.
August 26, 200916 yr Because there is not one combination of sliders in FSX that is perfect for all situations.Well for me, once I experimented and found the best compromise for my existing hardware I have not found it necessary to even look at my display settings in FSX. I'm beginning to think that maybe my computer is better than I thought it was as I have not encountered a situation where I've found it necessary to change anything. It did take me a while to set it all up properly when I first installed FSX buit when it was done, it was done.
August 26, 200916 yr Hi guys, Basicly, the TMLE service will check every so often to see if the value has changed from what you wanted to set it to. If it has changed, it will write the Texture max load value again to the one you specified when you ran the TMLE. If it hasn't changed (ie, it's still at 4096), it will not write the value as it doesn't need to. Once you have ran the TMLE and started the service, you may close the main application. When you start the application again, it will check to see if the service is already running so you can easily stop it. Basically, it is not possible to see the changes of the TMLE value if you change your display settings while in the game. FSX probably gets all data from the fsx.cfg file and puts it into an array for it to use while the engine is running so it doesn't have to wait for a return value from the cfg file all of the time. The only way to see changes would be to restart the flight or restart flightsim altogether so that FSX can gather the fsx.cfg information again. The service is for people who tweak their settings allot. If you start a flight with some settings then go back to make some changes, the service will be able to maintain the resolution you set it to. Other than that, it has no other use. Personally, I don't use the service because I'm happy with my current settings. I just change the TML value by applying the settings in the TMLE and then fly. I'll be on holiday for a week starting today (26th August) so I won't have any access to the internet but if you have any questions, please post at the Frosty Software forums and another member of the team should be able to help you. Thanks, Steve

I have presets for single and multi engine operation. I set everything up BEFORE I fly - no need to make any changes in flight unless I'm testing. In that case, I'm changing so many things that manually changing TML is no big deal.I guess some folks want to turn sliders down when approaching a dense area and up when in the country to keep frames up but that doesn't make sense to me.Oh well..... October 12, 201114 yr When first starting TML it cannot find the path to FSX.exe .... so I have to browse to it. After initial setup / apply settings it works one time. FSX.cfg is changed to 4096.I have the option set to start TML when FSX starts. The next time I run FSX .. TML opens but cannot find the path to the FSX.exe file.My FSX.cfg goes back to 1024. Now, starting TML again it cannot find the path to FSX.exe .... so I have to browse to it again. I think if the correct "path to FSX.exe" was remembered all would work ok?? Something is nor working correctly here.Chances are I am not setting up correctly. What is a quick test check procedure to see if it is set up and working? Anyone else see this problem? Screenshot of the "bad path" when TLM is first started. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
October 12, 201114 yr I just wanna say that I can´t get that link to work. Shows like the domain is for sale. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
