Blank FMS after switching it on?

Featured Replies

Hi GuysSame problem here - have reinstalled the AC and the Fonts in both locations - have tried launching a default flight and changing into the JS41 and have tried selecting it on the "Free Flight" menu - also tried selecting the tutorial flight with no luck.Using Vista 32 bit - which I reinstalled last night with FSX.Thanks for your help:)Chris.

Found the solution!!!!!!!! Go to your FSX / Fonts folder and copy all the J41 font files and (the key one for me) the glassga.tff file to your windows fonts folder. I did the J41 fonts before but not the glassga.tff one, after doing it my FMS works.Of course now it's time to go to bed as I have to get up at 5:30am for work tomorrow lol

Seems like I have the same symptoms as Olli and Dean:I loaded the tutorial flight over a default situation (in this case: glider on KHPN runway), then followed the tutorial instructions up to FMS activation.Clicking on the ON button produces a click an button movement, but the FMS screen remains completely blank. No yellow blocks, nothing. All other displays work just fine. The overhead panel looks exactly like on page 20 of the Pilot's Tutorial PDF (without the arrows :( ).On the other hand, after a FSX restart, creating a flight with the JS41 with engines running, the FMS works perfectly. So it doesn't really seem to be a font problem.Unfortunately, changing from there to the tutorial gives me a CTD (not PMDG-related, FSX has a strong tendency to do that on my rig after a situation change), so i could not verify that the FMS works in the tutorial after that.FYI, some technical data that may or may not be related to the problem:- WinXP 32 (german), Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8800GTS 640MB- FSX SP2 (german), no Acceleration- All fonts from FSX/fonts copied to Windows/fonts an rebooted after that- Using beige panel option (probably not related, but who knows)- JS41 NavData installed and verified in correct foldersWhat (minimum) requirements should be met in order to make the FMS work?- Electrical Power from BAT/GND/Engines?- Avionics Switches left/right/both ON?- anything else?Going to experiment a little more (loading from Cessna instead of glider, for example) and report the results.Regards,BernhardP.S.: Another very minor bug: The installer sends the tutorial files to the "Flight Simulator X Files" folder, even on a german system where it should be "Flight Simulator X-Dateien"

Short testing status update:Loaded the tutorial from a situation with a different default aircraft (Cessna): no change, FMS remains blank. After a FSX restart I created a flight with JS41 engines running: FMS works (as described before). Continuing from there I completed the shutdown procedure as per AOM and then saved that situation. After another FSX restart I loaded that situation and applied power to the aircraft: FMS didn't work.So I skipped the FMS initialization and finished the aircraft startup up to and including the taxi check. But still the FMS did not activate.Hope this helps to fix the bug... Only being able to either start cold&dark or use the FMS (but not both) kind of spoils this otherwise brilliant aircraft.Regards,Bernhard

I've got the same problem with the FMS.I installed the fonts in the windows fonts directory, the FMS went on just after the installation of the fonts.Afterwards, after a reboot of Windows XP, the FMS remained black and I'm not able to turn it on any more, although all buttons of the FMS are clickable.Mike

Well indeed i now have the same problem. Tried the fixes here but still nothing when I try to turn on the FMS. Funny, as I've had 4 flights previously just fine with the JS41. :(

OK, trying to keep this quite alive - I think this is a major snafu with the FMS system. Went back to the Tutorial, and still just a blank screen. All is seems to be fine.Jim Parish

Had the same problem. Moved all my J41 fonts to windows/font folder, rebooted FSX, did NOT reboot windows, and all is well. Thanks guys !! :( :( Dave Leh

I reinstalled FSX SP2 and reinstalled the fonts in the Windows Fonts folder, but nothing changed: the FMS remains black after turning it on. The aircraft is wonderful, but it's a drawback to fly without FMS. Is this issue being tracked by the developers?Best regards,Mike

I have this issue, too and I have tried all the suggestions here - and will try them again.Regardless whether starting 'warm' or cold, tutorial or free flight, default flight the change to J41 or directly with J41 (which works for the tute just fine, but still no FMS).Have the 'yellow block syndrome' - so I just fly it without.JD

I verified that the navdata and sidstars are in the appropriate folders. I did managed to get the FMS working the first time I manually installed the 5 j41 fonts. It was working fine. But the next day back to the same problem. Pressing the "on" button on the FMS only produces an audible "click" nothing else. Reinstalling the fonts again doesn't help. Still stumped. Gonna try a complete uninstall and reinstall of the JS4100.
Dean,Do you have the SP2 update or the Acceleration Pack installed for FSX as is required and if so, have you tried running the repair/modify from the Remove/Install software control panel to restore the file structure?Regards

I have the FSX SP2 update installed. I did try the repair option in the JS41 install screen but that did not cure the problem. I also uninstalled/reinstalled JS41 with no improvement.Let me mention that I can manage to get the FMS working in the tutorial by first creating a flight via the "free flight " screen with the JS41(engines running) and letting it load. Then from there I load the tutorial and the FMS turns on and works fine. That is what I have been doing. Some more of my system specs:AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 2.2GhzWindows XP SP3 32Bit (latest updates installed)2G RamATI Radeon 4850 Catalyst 9.8 Drivers24" Monitor running native resolution(1920x1200) in FSXHope this helps.
