Odd FS9 Engine Sound Crackling

Featured Replies

Hello all,I'm running a brand new system but have noticed a sound problem that's been bugging me the past few flights in FS9. It seems like at unpredictible configurations and intervals, my engine sounds will begin crackling (almost like a screw rattling against some plastic). Adjusting the FS sound quality does not make a difference but all of my other sounds are just fine...packs/AC, seatbelt signs, alarms, etc. Switching the view to VC or external removes the problem but switching back to 2d brings it right back.I run i7 975 @ 3.33 GHz|6.00 GB RAM|Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1|ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 with a Creative SB X-Fi sound card (my drivers should be up-to-date).Anyone have any thoughts or may be able to help me?Thanks!

Just a thought. I also bought a new rig and was getting a crackling sound. I downloaded some older drivers for my graphics card and that solved the problem.

see the second post in this thread -http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=259818--
Read that thread and tried it to no avail. I also use Vista so the "Advanced" tab is not under the regular volume/levels tab. I'll emphasize also EVERY other sound does not crackle, except engines. Thanks.edit: I may have been adjusting the wrong setting - does anyone know where this specifically in Vista 64?

Hello,This setting (hardware acceleration sound) can also be set under DirectX .Just run Dxdiag.exe and check the sounds tabs.Regards.bye.gifGus.

Through dxdiag, I have no options that can be change on my sound tabs. It just displays drivers and device information. I've read that Vista handles acceleration automatically but can't find a direct way to turn it off manually.

What operating system do you use?My other two tabs are USB headset-related.

My other two tabs are USB headset-related.
Do you get the cracking sound from the USB headphones, or speakers from the sound card...or both?In my situation, I seem to be getting cracking from only my USB headset from time to time and have not really found a good solution apart from lowering acceleration as I mentioned, but even that doesn't really get rid of it. As far as i know (i rarely use my speakers), my speakers do not get that sound. :(

In your soundcard settings turn off CMSS3D, turn off any bass boost and disable effects. Whilst all these settings and eddects work well with music etc. They postively do not work with FS9 engine sounds.Vololiberista

Unfortunately this didn't seem to help.In regards to the USB headset, it's a starset I use for voice only...not really meant for FS sounds.

Hi,I had this crackling sounds. The only thing that helped me was the installation of an older version (2.7) of ASIO4ALL. Maybe you could try that too.Rgds,Hugo
