Inital thoughts are maybe power supply or bad driver install/drivers. Jim Wenham
September 14, 200916 yr Your temps are fine. Run a memory test such as memtest. You'll need to extract that file and burn to cd, then boot from it.
September 14, 200916 yr Author So, specs first:CPU: QX9770Cooler: Ninja ScytheRAM: Corsair 2x2GB 1333MHzMoBo: Asus Striker II NSEHDD: Raptor + OCZ WarpGPU: GTX280Power: Patriot 850WattNo matter the drivers... Yesterday, I took the test flight (approx. 5h long), PC hangs after 10-15 minutes. So I relaunched it, load the same flight and landed safely after >5h of flight.MEM and CPUs are OK, I have tested it (like other components) in different programs - never had an issue.PC is in very good shape, no unneeded Vista services, no junk on HDD. It never hangs, except FSX.If this is not the temp. issue, we have to dig in different sub-forum.Now I suspect nHancer. Will try to fly without it for a while. Thanks for help guys.BTW I remember ATI's 3870 worked at 85-90 C and it was normal (I have googled about it, because it was fair to hot for me). September 14, 200916 yr nHancer is not causin your PC to crash. It's a utiltiy for configuring your display adapter. We need more info on your computer such as, is it over clocked?, have you adjusted your memory timings? What OS are you running?? etc...Did you happen to check your error logs in Windows to see what the cause of your crash/crashes has been?Regards,Bob

Memory timings are at factory default, the OS is Vista Business 32bit.I have DLed DX august 2009 and reinstalled VCRedist. Have made 1,5h flight in Tiger Moth over UK, no problems this time.In event viewer there is literally nothing, only 'unexpected shutdown', because all I can do after a crash is to turn off speakers (jammed sound) and turn off PC by a power switch >4sec. September 15, 200916 yr When you say the memory timings are at the factory default, you entered the bios and set the timings for your specific memory modules correct? Also are you using onboard sound or a dedicated card and are your sound drivers up to date?
September 15, 200916 yr Author When you say the memory timings are at the factory default, you entered the bios and set the timings for your specific memory modules correct?Yes, BIOS sets them at 6/6/6/18, but they are 7/7/7/20. So I entered it manually and correctly. Also are you using onboard sound or a dedicated card and are your sound drivers up to date?Asus SoundMAX + Asus Xonar D2/PM. The drivers are rather old (no update since few months), but the newest one. It happens also on previous MoBo as far as I remember (Realtek audio card), so this is not audio related Bartłomiej Ender
September 17, 200916 yr I've been having a series of crashes on my GTX 280 at similar temperatures.Cured (so far) by forcing the fan speed to 100 percent via Rivatuner, and removing three slot covers from the back of the case to increase airflo.I think there's some variation in how the GTX 280's handle temperature and mine doesn't seem to be as heat-tolerant as it should be.OP ought to try upping the fan speed and looking at ventillation. If that doesn't work, then it's time to go to the other options.Alan Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
September 17, 200916 yr Moderator GPU temps of 70C in a GTGX280 are very low. Max for that GPU is 105C so GPU temp is not an issue. Look elsewhere.Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160

October 8, 200916 yr From time to time my flight crashes/freezes too. According to latest issue of PC Pilot random errors in FSX find their way into the cfg-file, especially when saving flights in complex add-ons. They recommend starting up the default flight, I do that, buzz around for 5 seconds, close it down, and start up my 737 PIC mission again. If problem persists, load up default flight, then change to that particular plane you want, change time, season, and other criteria.
