I would guess just eye candy! As I understand systems can be better simulated in FS9 (correct me if I'm wrong).Wolfgang
FSX makes the sim look and feel nicer, but doesn't do a lot for system simulation. So while system simulation will not be much better in FSX, I don't think it'll be worse, and FS9 is not superior in that department. You will probably get the same system simulation, but with less eye candy and less effects.

Also the visual model would never fit inside FS9 to begin with... they'd have to hack around to get rid of 3/4 of the polygons... on top of that the FS9 market would also heavily demand 2D panels, which are not apart of the JS41.. I would wager a guess that the MD11 is the last model you'll see from them :)Ask yourself this? How many Xbox360 games are available for the Xbox? Maybe in the first year or so you'll get this type of downgrading to previous gen, but ultimately games are designed for the Hardware... not just the sim version.

and what would those be? eye candy or actual function? can the engine simulation not be done in FS9? is the flight model not usable in FS9? or is it issues of the 3D 'eye candy' in the panel and airframe?--
You should do you're home work better :(

Too many FSX exclusive features. It'd be almost impossible to port it over.
They had no problem porting over the MD11... I wonder how they managed that? :( I agree with Staffen as to the system simulation. The 17minute load times, toned down environment most have to deal with, and the performance issues makes less eye candy and more fluid systems appealing in my book. I'd take less eye candy any day for a fluid simulation ans as we have seen it's more than possible that's why we have a PMDG MD11 in FS9.

Yeah, I have to agree, I can't see PMDG supporting FS9 any longer, MD11 will in all likelihood be their last FS9 product. The developers have been working long and hard in trying to get us to move to FSX, and I can't really blame them - that's where most of the new sales are at, in addition to shorter development times (and along with that - lower costs). It's much easier to port an FSX scenery back to FS9 than it apparently is to port an aircraft. While the market may still be split in the scenery department (and it appears to be so, since most developers are still developing for FS9), it seems the costs are simply too prohibitive to continue to do so in the FS9 market. Or at least that's what they want to us to believe - that doesn't really matter in the long run.I'm saddened by the fact that it seems that in order to play with the latest toys I will have to move to a platform that gives me crappy performance even on, what still by today's standards is a high end rig. Alas, it seems inevitable. Here's hoping Aerosoft's upcoming FS2012 somehow manages to be the holy grail of flight simming, at least performance-wise.

Cheers,

Mack

PMDG has stated repeatedly and with certainty that there will not be an FS9 version of the JS4100... period. Threads like this aren't going to change their decision.I know that doesn't please the die-hard FS9'ers out there.. but it's a fact... and one that everybody will have to live with. :( I'd love to see an FS9 version myself... but I know it's not going to happen and I've accepted their decision. Fortunately, I have the FSX version and I'm more than happy with that.- Alex

PMDG has said repeatedly there 'WILL' be an FS9 version of the NGX. Now who's to say after that where things will go but there's diffidently going to be an FS9 version of the NGX unless they make a last minute change. Concerning the FSX/FS9 market developers can move to an FSX only stance if they want to their the ones that's going to loose a large amount of profit (depending on the add-on, the NGX will sell for FS9 more so than even the MD11). As long as it takes FSX 17 minutes to load with moderately installed add-ons FS9 beats it hands down. As long as FSX can't be ran full bore to really see the benefits of it over FS9 FS9 will continue to be a mainstay with many. People are actually rediscovering FS9 with the release of products like Airsimmer's A320...At this point I don't care as there's so much great stuff for FS9 already on the market. Many developers like Feelthere won't abandon FS9 so we still have potential of seeing products like an updated 737-300, CRJ, and new 717. We have Airsimmer making headway so if developers like CaptainSim, Level-D, and a few others want to drop the ball there will be new startups to fill the gap for FS9 as it's an easier platform to develop for (hence why the freeware market is still geared to FS9 more so than FSX). FS9 is not going anywhere anytime soon unless Microsoft surprises us with a new more robust version of Flight Simulator. With FSX like Vista it would take a Windows 7 type product to get people off of Windows XP, the same can be said about FS9. FSX is not the product to burry FS9 at least not for a few more years. This premature outlook has been festering ever since the release of FSX and nothing has come of it. Developers like FSD have reverted back to selling FS9 products like their upcoming 'Cirrus Jet'. No matter how you would like things to be different, FSX is not the product it should have been and it's not killing FS9 usage by a long shot. It's amazing, 15-17 minutes to actually load the sim and people are around here touting this as a viable replacement worthy of exclusive future products from our developers, the rational here escapes me...It's very unfortunate FSX is the last version of Flight Simulator ever to be released at this point... Talk about 'NOT' "Going out with a Bang" but at least we have FS9....

I don't know why you people insist FS9 products have good sales at all. If you want more FS9 products from PMDG why not go out and buy the MD11.. honestly if enough of you had bought it in the first place we wouldn't be having this discussion now would we? Has anyone ever taken a statistics course? Honestly PMDG is sitting there with data that is 99.8% reliable that shows they'll make more money developing for FSX. They're not saying FS9 versions wouldn't sell, they're stating for the effort the paybacks are better in the FSX arena.

What point are you making when PMDG stated the NGX is going the be for both FSX and FS9 (something must have sold)? They wanted to try new things with the JS41 that were exclusive to FSX. I own the MD11 so that's a mute point. FSX still runs like crap and I honestly don't have an answer as to why so many choose to take a step back in performance just to have the perceived latest and greatest. I guess it's a classic case of Monkey see Monkey do. I like things like scenery shadows and full autogen, I want those things turned on. Things like slips and the feel of landing on water is virtually unchanged from FS9 and even if they were stuttering kills the immersion factor. I like many things in FSX but with nothing done to the ATC engine and the horrible performance/load times I find myself getting more efficiency out of FS9. There's allot who feel the same as I do that's why there will be someone out there making products for FS9. As you can see from the freeware downloads everyday FS9 still beats out FSX on a daily bases...

Uhmm I get like 40FPS on the JS41 and 50fps on the MD11... with better graphics and all how is it a step back..

I think PMDG should have presented the JS41 with the quote "For those with newest and strongest hardware." (yes, I have an "older" computer, and it doesn't kick the FSX at all). I just love when people present high fps, without regard on hardware and what other x-thousands of users use. Not picking on you BionicCrab directly.

I'm happy for you after three plus years if you can run all FSX settings maxed out with 40FPS. I'm also happy if you can load up FSX in under a minute with various add-ons installed. Most aren't as fortunate. Either way I won't see FSX for another few years and I'm happy for anyone that's enjoying it. The best we can do is support our FS9 developers until either Aerosoft's product becomes the replacement (if it's that good) or hardware costing around around $700-800 finally catches up to FSX so the average simmer in this financial climate can join the fun.

What's funny is I don't see many examples of this. If you go to YouTube most of the FSX videos are horrendous yet here we are where developers should just abandon FS9 for no better reason than the new features FSX provides... FSX has potential but years later we are still waiting to exploit it. It's 3+ years now and the Youtube videos showcasing FSX hasn't changed much to impress me let alone reinstalling the actual sim on my machine... I still feel FSX is great for GA as long as you take that long route around the city and stay over the water and/or coast...

It's sad but I think people have to understand that PMDG is a business and they have bills they need to pay, and obviously they're going to maximize profits whenever they can. So even with an enormous amount of goodwill factored in, where they would take a loss just to keep customers happy, it's still not worth it for them. And yeah you can talk about the people with money to buy all sorts of hardware to make FSX scream, but just remember these same people still have money to pour into the latest software as well. And by the time you guys get i7's these people will be using i9's and 300 series Nvidia cards. Sorry this is just been the way of life for close to 20 years now.. it's not something I just started doing in the last 3 years just for FSX. Many of us just enjoy fast computers and are committed to running any game on the best platform possible. Just like some people are committed to always having the latest and greatest I-phone.

O.k. help me out here, has there been an official message put out by PMDG that they are not doing the NGX for FS9 but rather FSX only???If there's been no official statement what the heck are you guys talking about? :(

The most recent statement has been that they will "re-evaluate" the market when the time comes to decide whether to develop the NGX for FS9, given that the MD11 sales were less than satisfactory. They will make their decision on the basis of market date supplied to them by Aerosoft (a very staunch supporter of FSX-only development), which apperently is showing a steep decline in their particular market segment (I'm guessing airliner sales). All that info is in the "Some General Updates" forum thread: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?s=&...t&p=1661521
