October 17, 201015 yr Hi Jim.Its me again! :) This time, however,I do not have a request so much as a question. Obviously, you are a proffesional reapinter,so you would be the one to ask!I am currently working on starting up a virtual airline(i have been contemplating it for about a year now and just decided to go through with it). I have routes planned out, aircraft selected, etc... and I have finally come to the fun part.... PAINTING THE PLANES!!!!!! :) So far I have been doing pretty good(relatively speaking,Im no artist like yourself ;) and have painted 5 out of the 7 planes my VA will feature. But, when painting the VA's A330, I have run into a roadblock. After I had finished painting the plane and put it onto FS, the textures showed up plain black! I tried downloading another aircraft file,I put the textures into the aircraft folder, and loaded FSX. I did not get black textures, but in fact the textures that my download came with (vietnam airlines). I poured over all the texture files, the aircraft.cfg, everything, an I could not find the proble,. What is wrong? The screenshots below display the problem. I am using DxtBMP, and Paint.net editing software. I have painted other planes before with these software with good results. Sorry for the long discription :(. And thanks for any help!Screenshots:The Problem:How its supposed to lookThe texture fileThe aircraft.cfg file
October 17, 201015 yr Hi HamoodyYou could not do any better than to have a look through Dan Pruniers tutorial posted in the general section of this forum for some extremely good repainting guidelines, as for your black texture issue it looks as though they have been saved in an incorrect file format mainly as they are they showing in the browser window as thumbnails, but I could be wrong on that one as I am not sure what the bmp file associations are on your system, or what the original file format is of the files that came with the download, so would it be possible for you to give me a link to the aircraft download so that I can have a look at what format they are supposed to be in, also if possible if you could find some way of getting one of your modified texture sheets from the problem aircraft to me, if the files is small enough you could send it as an E-Mail attachment using my E-Mail address from my profile, and then I would have a better idea of what exactly your black aircraft issue is.Jim Hodkinson
October 17, 201015 yr Hey jim. Here is the link to the file I downloaded for the textures from flightsim.com (sorry, avsim :( http://flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=143571. The only modifications I made to the file were using Paint.Net to get rid of any existing paint on the plane and then painted on the white canvas. Here is the aircraft: http://flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=150142
October 18, 201015 yr Hi HamoodyThings have yet again got a little hectic around here, so it could be a little bit later before I can get back to you with what I have fond out for you regarding the repaint files format, sorry about this.@ DaveI can not see that being a problem as I did actually do another version of the Blue Islands colour scheme some time ago, so updating the files to the variant that you are after should not take to long, said he hopfully, so if you can hold on for a little while I will get back with the results, or if you want to try out the other variant while you are waiting, then here is a link for that one…http://www.filefront.com/17010709/BN_2A_BlueIslands_01.zip/And once again, my apologies to you both about the delay, but I will get onto both requests as soon as things have got a little bit calmer around here, which should not take to long.Jim Hodkinson
October 18, 201015 yr Hi JimDont rush on my account! :)Im after the repaint for the JS4100 PMDG just to clarify from my previous post although i understand your reply too.Dave
October 18, 201015 yr Hi DaveI must admit that replying to three different posts in one reply was getting me a little bit twisted about, but as for your request with luck I should have something for you to take for a spin at the latest tomorrow AM but I am hoping for later today if all stays as calm as it is a present.Back as soon as I have something for you to try out.Jim Hodkinson@ HamoodyIf the links to the files you posted are correct, then I know what one if not the main problem you are having is, as the repaints texture sheets are totally different from the texture sheets supplied with the full aircraft download, not only in name but also in the layout of the textures on the sheets as well, so there is no way they will workOther than that from what I have seen any future files should be saved in 32bit BMP format, which if you are using DXTBmp to save them is from the drop down menu use the save as>extended bitmap>Extended 32 bit 888-8, and also while you are in DXTBmp ensure that the Alpha layer is the same as it is on the texture sheets supplied with the aircraft download, you can “borrow” the Alpha layers by using the drop down menu Alpha>Export Alpha Channel, and save the resulting Alpha layer to a known location and name it something that you will recognise at a later date.So other than using the correct paintkit textures I can not se why these repaint should not show if you use the same file format as the originals and the correct Alpha layer for each repainted texture sheet, but if you do have problems with the paintkit I would suggest asking on the POSKY forum as to be honest I have never used these models at all in any version of FS, so my experience with them is none existent at best.I hope some of the above helps, and good luck with your repainting.Jim Hodkinson
October 18, 201015 yr Hi again DaveAs it is about to get busy around here again (I have no idea why this has suddenly started to happen) I thought I would have go at the Blue Islands request, so if you would care to take her for a spin to see if she is close to the scheme you were after then here is the download link for the files…http://www.filefront.com/17404592/J41_Blue_Islands_02.zipAs always any updates or changes that you find you need, then just let me know and I will try my best to assist, but it may be tomorrow at the earliest at the present time.Take care, and have fun.Jim Hodkinson

October 19, 201015 yr Hi NickIf you mean the Beta bare metal version of the Skywest repaint, then no problem here you go..http://www.filefront.com/17407695/J41_SkyWest_Beta.zipI have to admit that I don’t remember doing any other versions of this one, but with my mind that does not mean a lot, but I also don’t have any master file copies either, so this hopefully is the one you were after, if not then just let me know.Take care, and have fun.Jim Hodkinson
October 19, 201015 yr Hi Jim thanks for the repaint looks bloody awesome!!Its great to see someone who enjoys creating things to such a high level of quality!Best, Regards Dave.

October 20, 201015 yr Hi DaveWell thank you very much for the enthusiastic comments, it really is appreciated, and my apologies for the delay in responding, but I have remodelled my computer network and at present I have just my main system up and running (mainly anyway), thanks again for both the comments and for taking the time to send the feedback, both are very appreciated, and you are more than welcome anytime.Jim Hodkinson@ NickTo be honest Nick I had forgotten all about this one until you mentioned her, I can see no reason as to why she should not be finished, all I really need is for a list of any errors or areas that could do with a little bit more work, in fact anything (within reason) that could be done to make her just a little bit better than she is, so if you want to take on the job be my guest, and I will see what I can manage in the way of a final package, and thanks for taking the time to provide both the comments and the feedback, they are very appreciated.Take care, and have fun.Jim Hodkinson

I know we are not supposed to hotlink.post airliners.net stuff, but if you search for emb-120's from skywest, or even the tail number n569sw, youll notice its a royal blueish color for the main stripe. The vertical stabilizer root and the lower fusagle portion os slightly brownish on the paint, but should be a little more grey. Like the color of the wings. The fusalage above the stripes has a slightly purpleish tone to it, might be my lighting though. The nose section stripes dont match up to the fusalage. How about a black nose cone :( And maybe a tad less shine on it. Skywest planes get super dirty. I had the pleasure of working at KCRQ for many years and watched those brasilia's fly in, filthy birds, but still my favorite plane of all time lol.I think with those, you would have a great little fictional paint of it there.
