Windows 7 experience?

Featured Replies

I recently upgraded to Windows 7. I had to re install FS9 and all my scenery but it seems that there is a real problem here.I have 2 x 500 Gb sata HD's partitioned 200/300 (C & D drive) and 250/250 (E & F drive). I also have an external HD of 750 Gb partitioned 250/250/250.Windows 7 is on Drive C of course and FS 9 is on drive ENow, when I install scenery it installs ok but when I activate it in FS9 I click "Add Scenery" and then find the scenery in FS. But where I used to just double click it to install it into FS9 now I have to double click it, then double click scenery, then double click the scenery title again and then it installs and shows on the scenery list. But when I install scenery that has a Land Class file, the land class just shows as LC without a scenery title. With some scenery even though it shows on the list it doesnt show in flightsim, just a load of a/c parked in a field. Has anyone else had these problems? I cant think of a better way of describing the problem. Sorry but if you need more onfo please let me know..Cheers Since originally writing this for another forum I have now reinstalled FS9 to a partition with no other progs on it..And I still have the problem

"Don't install in C:/Program files"Why can't we install into the default location.
Well, you can install FS there if you really enjoy fighting your own computer for "Permission" to work with the files...By installing FS to its own folder, you have a shorter path and can also grant yourself "Permission" to do whatever you like without all the bloody "nanny nag screens..."

I've installed everything to their defualt location (c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files(x86)) and I've not had any issues with nag screens, registries or permissions.Do you not have administrator rights on your FS machine?

HelloTo all those who have moved from XP32 bit to Windows 7.What advantages will W7 give someone who has never had an OOM or ever seen his FS9 install use more than 1.2 gb of memory?.I have windows 7 installed on another drive in this box and so far I detect zero benefit over the FS9 install on the XP32disk.I have though noticed some problems in W7 such as switching from full screen back to the desktop to launch Radar Contactcan give me a lockup from time to time.If there is a problem with XP32 that W7 is a definite fix for, then I am open minded and will start using it.So let me know, what did you move for?

I found some information by McCurty on the FSCB forum about that:Click "add area".Look for the scenery that you want install.Click once on the folder to switch it from color but not opens the folder.Click "ok"The folder opens, but click with the RIGHT mouse button in the right pane. The area will now be added.Rgds,Hugo

Of course I do. Realize though that there are two levels of "Administrator." The one to which you refer still does not have full control over the system, and will on occasion be prompted to "Elevate Permissions" in order to accomplish a given task...However, that is really not the point I was trying to establish. Many, many addons for FS need to modify files that're normally "protected" even when running under the "Administrator" account, and will encounter problems, lockups, and cause FS to abend.Of course, as a developer I will admit that I'm more likely to encounter such problems, since I frequently have to compile and update 3d models and/or gauge systems across the network from my development system...

You could also use the SCM2004 Scenery Manager tool made by Hans Hartmann which is found in the avsim library http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=45936. Works extremely well and makes manual installing of scenery into fs9 much easier and quicker.
