Why does anyone want another 737 for FS9?

I see a lot of posts here where FS9 users are upset that the newer 737NGX will probably not have an FS9 version done as well, which I can understand since there is already an FS9 version. What I am wondering is why would anyone want another FS9 version since the current one is so good? I don't use FS9 anymore, however I do own the FS9 version of the 737NG and it was my favorite airliner to fly in FS9. If I was still using FS9 why would I want to buy another version of the same plane? I mean the flight deck and cockpit are probably going to look about the same as they did in the older version, so what new features would there be that would make me want to spend another $45 for a new one?I can understand FS9 users wanting products like the J41 that are FSX only and if I was still on FS9 I would probably feel the same, but I can't see the need for another 737.Sean Campbell

Shirley? LOL No my name isn't ShirleySurely?I am serious. Granted I don't follow the PMDG board very often since I don't have any of the FSX products, but I do stop in from time to time to see if there is anything new on the NGX.Maybe I missed a post, which is very possible since I dont look in here very often, and I don't know what the newer NGX features are going to be compared to the FS9 version. That being said, what new features for the FSX version are going to be so ground breaking that there would need to be an FS9 version, and could these features be implemented in FS9? If they can't be carried over to FS9 then why would anyone want it?Yeah, there will be some heated replies I would imagine, which isn't the intent my post is meant to generate. I am just wondering why anyone would want another version, that's all.If I knew what the new features the NGX will have that the FS9 version doesn't have I wouldn't be asking.Hopefully, replies will be civil.Sean Campbell

Yeah, joking aside, I think the answer is quite trivial. The 737 product must be more than 6-7 years old, based on FS2002 era technology. The modeling techniques have taken giant leaps since then, in terms of systems simulation, visual quality and performance. Just look at the MD-11 or the JS41. Just the VC gauge refresh rate is abysmal in the 737 compared to those products. It is also fair to say that the 737NG is one of the most popular medium range aircraft in the world and interests a lot of simmers. Those two alone I think will justify a new version.banner_fs2crew_team_kk.png

PMDGs 737NG is 5 years old today, and looks awful, regarding to Flightdeck and Cabin texture. Also the FMC and other details ain

Ok Kimmo, fair enough. I agree that the 737NG is popular and I can't wait for the FSX version. It's been so long since I used it in FS9 that I really cant remember how good or bad the refresh rates were when it comes to the guages. At the time they seemed pretty smooth, but I suppose that there is always room for improvement. The external models of a/c have never been to much of an interest for me since I don't spend much time in the sim looking at the outsides, but I suppose for some that take a lot of screen shots a better looking model is important to them. I guess if was was still using FS9 and the newer version updated the guages and model I maybe interested, but I am not sure if I would spend another $45 for it. But then again that's easy for me to say since I don't use FS9 anymore. But I had been curious to see why so many were disappointed since there was already a good FS9 version.ThanksSean Campbell

Why do I want the NGX for FS9? because it was stated it has a panel-save-state function. That, and the fact that *I guess* it will have updated visuals, flight dynamics and system functionality (although I'm not sure how the system functionality can be improved since I don't have the current PMDG 737).

I didn't think they could improve the flight dynamics and system functionality for FS9 anymore than they did in the current FS9 version. A panel save state would be pretty cool though. After talking about it, makes me want to reinstall FS9 and my 737NG just to fly it again. I really miss that plane.

Hello Sean,Do you think PMDG are just planning to take the existing FS9 NG and port it over to FSX ?If that was the case, an FS9 version wouldn't make sense. But we are talking about a brand new development taking advangage of the many years of experience PMDG has acquired since the original FS2002 NG.Plus implementation of some of the many features that have been discussed in this forum such as HUD, INS, better FMS and RNAV functionnalities etc. etc.Rgds,Bruno

LOL. No, I know that the FSX version is going to be much more than a port over from the FS9 version.I probably should have never asked. I guess it's been so long ago that I had used the FS9 version that I can't remember much from it except that it was really good and I couldn't understand why anyone woud want another version for FS9 since the existing one was pretty solid from what I recall.I thought the existing FS9 version was pretty much a full featured a/c and considering the FS9 limitations regarding poly limits on models and other features that makes use of FSX simconnect, I didn't think that there was a lot more that could be done for the FS9 version.Sean

I probably should have never asked.
:( The fact is : a lot of the current FS9 NG users would be quite happy with a few of the improvements mentioned above...(edit) ...but then you realize, VNAV is not as good as it could be, some RNAV modes are not implemented, the eyebrow windows have disappeared, the VC cockpit has aged a lot etc..etc. and you end up with a new project.Bruno

A more complete FMC, IRUs, a HUD, a Vertical Situation Display and a better VNAV...that's all I would ask for in the new NG. Only five things, five, not much for an experienced plane maker like PMDG.Oh, I almost forgot...and for FS9 too.
