December 29, 200916 yr Anyone here familiar with Juneau, AK airport and its geographical relationship to the city of Juneau? In FSX, the city (containing the main downtown area, and the capitol building) is immediately north of, and bordering, the Juneau Airport. (PAJN). But in actuality, the city of Juneau is about 6 miles southeast of the airport. Now if you check Google Earth, there is a small residential area just north of the airport, but that's not the city of Juneau. I think the program designers mistakenly used this area to portray the city of Juneau, but they were way off. Anyone else notice this?I'm using the Cloud 9 X-Class Canada add-on (which covers Alaska) but I checked with the default scenery and the same error is there.Bob
December 29, 200916 yr Yes, I was surprised to see that. Flew into Juneau in a Alaska Airlines 737-200 Combi in 1998, so I was expecting to see something more accurate. Hopefully when I get around to buying the Scenery Tech landclass for North America that will be rectified.John
December 29, 200916 yr Author Thanks, John. Does the Scenery Tech Landclass add-on fix this issue? I'll purchase it if it does.
December 30, 200916 yr Keep in mind that landclass addons are usually not specific, they give a general representation of what should be there. Best, Michael KDFW

I have looked at the area with the FSX Landclass, Scenrytech Lanclass, and Cloud 9 Landclass and all three landclasses do a decent job of accurately depicting the urban areas around Juneau. The problem you are seeing has nothing to do with the landclass. It has to do with the custom scenery that was originally developed for the Juneau area in FSX. Unfortunately, until somone makes a custom Juneau scenery addon, with the correct placement of the custom buildings, you are stuck with what Microsoft developed and no landclass by itself will fix it.Regards,Bob

It sure made Sitka light years better than default. If you like flying in this region than you owe it to yourself to look into it. I believe it was reviewed here on Avsim so you can check it out at your leisure. RE Thomason Jr.

December 30, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi guys, our Glacier Bay v2 for FS9 covers Juneau and the surrounding area and we've started working on an FSX version of it. It'll take a bit though as the plan is to keep it freeware and thus it's being developed in the spare spare time ;-)Cheers, Holger
December 30, 200916 yr Author Thanks for that tip, Blaze. I'll check it.BobOoops, should have read Bill's post first. I think I'll do some hunting today on the web. Maybe someone out there has done a Juneau specific add-on to FSX. Heck, I'd do it myself if I had the technical ability.

December 30, 200916 yr Author I found a very nice FSX add-on scenery (photo-real) for Juneau, AK which greatly improves the realism of the city in the sim. It is payware (24 US dollars) but well worth it if you are interested in flying in this area. The surrounding terrain look much better and, as a bonus, downtown Juneau and the harbor area leading from the airport to downtown is correctly placed, and depicted. If anyone is interested in this add-on, here's the URL: http://www.flightsimdaily.com/fsx/taburet-...-juneau-alaska/
May 16, 201115 yr well the airport is at the end of the valley and next to auke bay and lemon creek i know this cause i live there
May 16, 201115 yr As I just mentioned in another thread, UT Alaska covers the area as well. Even a beautiful view of the glacier to the east. You get a lot of 'bang for your buck' with UT Alaska. With UT Alaska, Tongass Fjords, Orbx Pacific Fjords, Pacific NW and Northern Rockies...well, you just cannot get much better in the FS world IMO. Always been one of my favorite areas (Alaska, BC, and Washington St) to fly, and these products have simply 'knocked it out of the park' for me now.
May 16, 201115 yr Holger,I am really glad to hear that you are still planning an update to Glacier Bay for FSX. When I built my newest flightsim computer I did not load FS9. The only thing I miss in not having FS9 is the great Glacier Bay scenery package. It was a wonderful place to sim and a very generous gift to the flightsim community. I would just like to thank you again for the many hours you and the other contributers devoted to making this spectacular landscape come alive. | Windows 11 | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | i9-14900K | RTX 4090 | 64GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 | 4TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 | 2x 4TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 | CORSAIR AX1600i ATX Titanium | LG C2 42 Inch 4K OLED |
September 23, 201114 yr Doesn't seem like there was an update in ages, no? I'd definately like to see this area covered in high quality. Would be a blast.
