Can't Stop the Crashing

Featured Replies

Help, I bought the JS4100 literally the first day it was available, and have been using it with no problems in FSX Acceleration. Updated it to SP1 around the time that patch became available too. It's been behaving great all the while.Suddenly, though, the add-on has started crashing any time I load it. For example, after selecting it from the FSX "free flight" window, I will see the plane's model show up in the preview area with no textures, then hear the engine start sound as the DLL is loaded, then I get a crash to desktop. More or less the same thing happens if I am already in the sim and switch to the JS4100 from another aircraft. This is the only PMDG plane in my hangar that does this, e.g. no problems with the 747 or B1900D.The event that seemed to cause the crashing to start was doing optimizations on my FSX configuration, the NVidia graphics settings in particular: installing nHancer and switching to DX10 preview mode. Although the JS4100 still crashes now when I disable these. At the same time I moved my configuration to a separate hard disk, so FSX is now at D:\Flight Simulator X\. What's suspicious here is that there are a bunch of empty PMDG related directories created back on my C drive where FSX used to be, as if the add-on is still looking for resources over there, despite my complete uninstall and reinstall to the D drive location.I have already tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the JS and the problem hasn't gone away. I'm suspicious that the uninstall isn't completely getting rid of everything related to the JS, that there's a bad setting somewhere (Windows registry?) that persists even when I uninstall and reinstall. Please help with other suggestions for me to try. My investment in this plane (time and money) is completely useless until I get this fixed.Peter Vanags

I assume you have tried loading a default aircraft (I use the Trike) then selecting the JS41.Try deleting all saved flight plans (you can save them to a zip if you want them back). There used to be a problem like this caused by something unexpected in a flight plan but I think that was fixed.Try uninstalling FSX Acceleration (or SP2) and reinstalling. This has actually solved some odd problems.Try deleting the fsx.cfg and letting FSX build a new one.

So, a thorough registry cleaning fixed this problem. I downloaded a tool called "Registry Toolkit" that lets you do global search-and-replace in the Windows registry, and replaced all instances of the old FSX path (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X) with the new path (D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X).So the moral is (as it is with most Windows software) that often a full uninstall doesn't get rid of everything, especially registry entries.

Thanks for the update Peter. Gotta add that one to the list of things to try.

I am running Win7-64 pro and the J41 has started crashing fsx on loading the aircraft. It worked fine till this started. Please tell me more about this registry tool. It should be noted that this is the only aircraft to crash fsx.I quite enjoy this aircraft and would like to have this problem fixed. Many thanks,Dave

Go to Flight1 and find it under the utilities section. It's free. Be sure to run with admin rights. Please sign your full name in this forum.

did you have to pay and register it before you could clean your registry??

I have the exact same problem as it's been described above. On the Free Flight menu I select the JS41, I can see the aircraft in the Preview window but I don't hear the engine startup sound as I used to. Then I hit "Fly Now" and *crash! boom! bang! I find the heart but then I hit the wall*. In my case, I have no idea why this is happening, since it worked perfectly a few days ago that I last checked and I haven't changed a thing on my system/fsx since then. FYI I use Windows 7 64bit with FSX/ACC and I've tried deleting fsx.cfg, registry repair tool, uninstall/reinstall the product, pray to the Allmighty Gods of software stability dancing naked around the PC case etc.On the other hand you guys should do something with the S-Turns issue and the MD11/B744. The good fellas at HiFi Sim have found a solution and you guys seem to ignore it. Anoiwthos Darlas. *Ekei pou exw ta3idepsei egw...*

Dang, now my J41 is crashing upon loading! Just flew it yesterday too. Time to start with all the "workarounds" . . .Noel

Same issue here, selecting the J41 causes a CTD with no error message in Win7 x64. Just flew her recently as well without any problems.

Well since this may be happening to a few, I would recommend at least listing your OS and maybe checking add/remove programs to see what updates have been installed recently. It wouldn't be the first time windows update wreaked havoc in FSX.Just a thought.

I have given up guys. I've tried rollbacks, multiple installs/uninstalls, cleanups with 3 different registry cleaners, update of all drivers. Nothing works. If you guys find any solution let me know. Cheers(Still using Win 7 64)Anoiwthos Prwtathlhths Darlas*Forgot to mention that I also tried deleting the fsx.cfg and rebuilding it. No joy

A complete uninstall and reinstall of the J41 seems to have fixed this problem for me. Hope everyone else can find a solution.

Sam et al,Same same, uninstall/reinstall resolved the problem. Wonder what's up with this? Great plane tho! Thanks for that.
