Wonderful! Is that while flying a payware plane like the JS4100? So how much did everything cost for your new system?
The Plane I use for benchmarks is CaptainSim 727
Wow! I hope that these benchmarkers will rerun their benchmarks because they seem to be totally wrong regarding performance compared to the 975 at default speed:http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i...ftown,2573.htmlhttp://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3763

WOW really, thats awesome, let me ask I saw you had an I7 975 before, did you get around the same results with that cpu or does the 980 really make a big difference.
Now I can say, that i7 980 X makes a difference in smoothness and added some FPS (3-10 (FPS locked at 30)) I have to say, that I was expecting more though, but FSX was build a view years in the past so...I'm sure that Nvidia Fermi (GTX480) in combination with i7 980 X will add some more power to our FSX.Testing is still in progress. Will let you know the news and do some videos soon.
At JFK (from FSDT) with UTX, GEX, FSGenesis Mesh and UT2 SP1, I get smooth 20-30 FPS av.FSX Settings are:I always use the same default flight (Day and Time)
Wonderful, you got UT2 that is fairly new :( . Every setting is pretty high expect the water effect. I think if you change ATI to Nvidia, the water effect could be set higher without loss of frames. Correct? Also, yes, the fsx is not well optimized for today's multicore, the first core is used intensively but the others for loading the scenery and environment are not fully used. There is no update in the future. And we can only put our hope to a new simulator.20-30 fps is enough for both appreciating the beautiful scene and controling the plane.I guess i7-980x+gtx480 could terminate the age when whatever the desktop is used, some addons cannot run smoothly to be playable. Expect to see your clip, and after that, I consider to buy this bull. :( Thanks for your first hand result, crashmax!

Any screenshots? Is the terrain all sharp? I noticed your LOD radius is set to 6.5? What if you changed it to 8.5?

Uploading You Tube video right now... :(

Terrain is sharp. Cannot raise LOD to 8.5. If I do that there are no more trees then. Don't know why, but perhaps it's my VGA Card or the crappy ATI Driver. Hope GTX480 are available on 06.04.2010

Video is on You Tube. Don't expect to much :( Have more testing to do. Until I :(

I'm surprised your chip needs so much vcore to hit high 4's. Still a sick chip though.

Yes, after 4.55GHz that cpu needs to much VCore for 24/7. I think a newer stepping (perhaps even a newer bios) will help. But temps are very good.

Any difference in performance (within FSX) at 4.0GHz vs 4.8GHz? I would think it would be tremendous - but then again some users reported little or no change between 4.0 and say 4.4

crashmax, I thinking of getting the same mobo as you. Have you ever flashed the bios?, Im just wondering, I went on Gigabyte site and they have some bios updates for that board, one is for support of 6 core processors, just want to know if you did or not because Im thinking of getting the 980 and want to know if any bios updates are necessary.

I try out every new bios. For 980 you must update bios. Use bios F6 this works ok.

For 4.8GHz the amount of VCore is too high, so I do not try this out. The difference between 4.0 and 4.6 is about 3 FPS average. But more important: you can use higher settings and smoothness is better.
