No cursor, no text manipulation when posting or editing

Featured Replies

When using Firefox 3.6 / 3.6.2, the text entry fields on the "New Thread", "Edit", and "Reply" pages provide no cursor for typing... interestingly enough, a "Fast Reply" window does. When editing a post, I can use the mouse to block-select any existing text in the entry field, but I cannot manipulate it whatsoever. Attempts to delete, "replace" text by typing over the selection, or bold/italics - all do not function on text that was block selected. Additionally, the cursor keys do not move the text insertion point, nor is the standard "I" or "bar" cursor visible. I have duplicated this issue on 2 separate computers on 2 separate internet connections, one running Windows 7 (64-bit), the other WinXP (32-bit). If I switch to IE8 (or IE7), the problem is not present. I have also recently tried Google Chrome and Opera 10.50, and neither of those browsers experience the same issue... it only occurs on the newer flavor of Firefox. I have since downgraded to Firefox 3.5.8, and this broken behavior had disappeared. It would appear that the forum software and FF3.6 are at odds with each other somehow. It happens on most, if not all of my post attempts. If you are experiencing this issue, I would recommend a downgrade to Firefox 3.5.8Can anyone on the AVSIM forum technical team weigh in as to what may be the cause, and I'd be curious if any other users have experienced the same problem.-Greg

Hello!I saw this post a couple of days ago, and didn't think much about it until this morning, when I posted on another thread here. In the Add Reply screen, the blinking cursor DOES NOT show up in the Text Box. In the Quick Reply screen however, the cursordoes show up in the Text Box normally. It's the only place that I've noticed this happening... I have Firefox 3.6xx, and I don't get any difficulties except in here. It's not a problem for me (as long as I keep tabs on the words LOL) but I thought I would bring thisto everyone's attention. Thanks!Alan :(

Still working fine for me, guess I got the "special" version of 3.6.2I am using XP, maybe it's an OS conflict?regards,Joe

Hello!Joe: I have XP with SP3 installed. I'm using Quick Reply because the cursor won't show up whenusing Add Reply. I have gone to other forums and posted messages with no difficulties at all.Like I said it's not a biggie... :( Alan

Same problem here, Firefox 3.6.2 and 3.6.3 on Windows 7 64-bit.Safe mode with add-ons disabled, same result.

Also, the "fast reply" and "edit" buttons come and go on a whim. But that behaviour happens with Internet Explorer 8, as well.

same here, Firfox 3.6.3, WIN7/64 and no cursor...thanksUwe

Hello! On a lark, I installed Google Chrome and started it up to see if the missing cursor problem occurred. Everything works just fine.I think it's a compatibility issue with Firefox 3.62 or something, because it still happens when I use Firefox.Alan :)

Same for me too, fast reply works fine, but ADD Reply has no cursor and you cant move around to make corrections, also the spell check add-on doesn't work either.Firefox 3.6.3 and Windows 7 64bit.

Cheers, Andy.

Finally I figured out how to fix work around it after months of installing and de-installing Firefox 3.6.xGo to AVSIM forum 'My Controls' > 'Options' > 'Board Settings' and change "Rich Text Editor" to "Standard Editor", now you will have your cursor back.

Cheers, Andy.

Thanks for the fix, Andy. I've been having this problem lately too, and I was starting to think I was nuts. Maybe I am, but at least I have a workaround now.

Following up on this slightly older topic...It would appear that the August 2010 forum upgrade has eliminated this issue, and all is functioning properly again. I am now getting a proper cursor and editing ability (rich text editor, normal reply window) under Firefox 3.6.x. There is probably no longer a need to revert down from the rich text editor to the standard editor in order to gain proper typing functionality. -Greg
