XP, Vista and Win7 use different WDDM (thats Windows Display Driver Model) XP uses one called WDXP, and Vista WDDM1.0 and Win7 WDDM1.1, how does each model handles 'video memory' reporting to an application at the API level? (WDDM talks to the D3D API) the app talks to D3D are you to expect always the same output under all driver models?

It has been said here that these problems are happening to a minority of FSX/W7 users.So is a higher order fix (if fix is the correct word) required in WDDM1.1 in order to fix W7's problem with FSX? Is it only FSX that are manifesting these failure modes? My office 2007 runs great on W7 at the office!! It appears to me that the number of simmers that will have dedicated XP boxes to run FSX are small and get smaller every day. Even with lower price hardware it is not feasible to have a fast i7 (or equiv.) sitting around for the odd flight (for most). The XP and Vista movies will soon be over and the future is definately with W7.The develpers need enough participation in buying their products to sustain/support development and without such, well the options get trimmed along with our hobby.I am hoping that your findings are being watched very carefully and that the developers can rally MS to help. the problem is completely random, you can fly 4 years and never notice it, however, the problem iS there... it will make itself evident under 'certain' conditions. Some WDDM are more suceptible than others, thats all, tomorrow you'll see this forum flooded with 'it worked' responses :) people is testing now, lets give them some time.

hi *******,the "black screen" problems that you mention in some of ur previous posts, does the monitor go into low power/stand-by mode within a split second or two following the black screen? if so, i'm really looking forward to the fix for this one. btw, i'm using an Evga GTX285 (factory o/c'd) & Win7 x-64. your time and help with all these issues is much appreciated.happy flyin, Tim Wheeler

Check event viewer, you'll notice that those 'black screens' were caused by a 'Driver restart' what happened, is that your CPU stalled your GPU with too much info. Most likely, you run nHancer, with max IQ settings, am I correct? yes?

OMG I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!with the change in the cfg and the boost i was getting 13-15 FPS at EGLL in the capsim 727 defult settings... Now i get 35-40 steady same airport and plane but MAX SETTINGS! this has got to be the biggest fix iv seen for FS in 10 yrs!. why on earth didnt MS think of this???? ******* u beat them... hehe well done! cannot wait to test it out on my 2nd Rig at home!...Also i have a Question... i have a Nvidia (Dvi) Grafix card running a VGA Cabel to the back of my 42 inch telly max rez is 1366.768If i switch from VGA to Dvi to HDMI will that increase my FPS or screen rez??thanksConcorde...
