Nvidia 470 GTX delivers excellent FSX Performance

Recommended Posts

I wonder where the naysayers are now...
Probably I'm missing something... but, who would even doubt the Fermi capabilities with FSX?? enlighthen me... I own one, performance is amazing and I've also been advocating its use for FSX long before it was released, it is clearly written in the pinned BP=0 Conclusions post.EDIT: and by the way, my GTX 480 runs amazingly fast with OR without BP=0 it is THAT fast.

As for who could doubt the Fermi.....It was a discussion here a while back well before it was released. Even with the latest hardware most guys were still having trouble without using the CFG tweaks and also the problems nvidia were having bringing this card to the table, everything was just speculation so I would say everybody was well within their right to doubt it or credit it.

I have however registered for the EVGA step-up program to trade the 470 GTX in for a 480 GTX when they have them available to do so, since that is what I wanted to buy in the first place. So hopefully, I will be able to directly compare one with the other in the same settings. I doubt if there will be a huge difference between them. Both of them have tamed FSX.
When you'll get the 480, please share the 470/480 comparision results. I am tempted to do the step up as well but will wait on your results before making a decision :)thanks!

Doubting (or) crediting, within reason and valid arguments, YES.. doing so, without understanding how ATI's and nVidias different architectures work (or) benefit FSX then would be FUD.as to, everyone having the right to disagree, well.. I agree ;) I was just curious as to who this naysayers were... simply that, I hope theres nothing wrong with that.Cheers,

Hey Guys,This thing just keeps getting better and a little easier to understand. I have made a few running changes but have tried to document where this thing has taken me and my machine. Here is the link in the Tips and Techniques AVSIM section. I hope this helps.StephenSETTING AND PERFORMANCE DETAILSHere it a copy of it:Screenshot over Darrington Wa.It has been many years since I started lurking at AVSIM and other FS sites soaking in all the knowledge and expertise of those who have found out how to run various versions of MSFS. Eventually I registered and begin to participate, while trying not to be a part of any problems, but perhaps helping in a solution here and there. Everything any of us know in the core FS community come on the shoulders of those who have done most of the heavy lifting. We all know who they are, but for the recent arrivals they would be a long list of devoted helpers beginning with Nick Needham and as of this date ending with ******* (Hey sus) aka. Bojote. Of course there are many others, but, perhaps Orbx and John Venema have done more to push FSX farther out into excellence than anyone else to this point. However we have benefited enormously from the help and advice from many skilled enthusiasts and ingenious developers to the point that, rightly or wrongly, I feel that the long hard uphill fight to tame the wild MFSX beast is coming to an end. Technology and persistent experiment and analysis has certainly taken us a lot closer to "as good as it gets."With the new Nvdia 400 Series video cards, levels of performance and quality have taken a huge jump. Flying over the most dense autogen with complex aircraft with all the sliders to the right is now possible, and I expect, will soon be very common. With certain tweaks applied, smoothing down the rough FSX code, the program can run wide open with near perfection with 30+ FPS without stutters, blurries or other former spoilers. For those who have lots of flight sim experience I don't suppose this will be of much benefit, but I hope that a few newcomers will be able to latch on to some of it and get a good head start that will put them ahead of the game far faster than we did. There are many ways to skin a cat, but there are even more ways to fiddle and fix FSX. No two machines are alike or are programmed the same way. That means that results will always vary from machine to machine and system to system. So I hope that this "reveal" will be a benefit to some, and an encouragement to most.I use FPS Limiter to set my FSX frame rates from the outside of the program which results, for most people, a faster and smoother flying experience. Here is the link to download it. http://www.caveofdistraction.com/2009/07/2...nd-other-titlesSimply point it to your fsx.exe file and pick your frame count (mine is set at 30 fps), create a bat file and start fsx with it each time.Even though I experimented with the Nvidia control panel, with mixed success, I reverted to the use of Nhancer because the quality of the texture rendering could not be matched otherwise. The settings are shown below. Nick Needham was the guide for this advice. I have however nudged up the settings a tad which works great for me. You can download Nhancer here:http://www.nhancer.comNothing more needs to be said by me, here are screenshots that will do more than words can tell.1. Oh Oh,I made an error on which screenies of Nhancer I had uploaded. Numbers 3 and 7 are the wrong ones. That concerns me in case someone uses them without seeing this correction. Moderators, is it possible for the original to be edited by replacing those two with these files? These are correct:3. Nhancer http://www.fsfiles.org/imagehost/uploads/1272397311.jpg7. I took care of that for you, but the two oversized images had to go.

Hi,I'm really struggling with this FPS Limiter. When I double-click the "FPS_Limiter_GUI.jar" file, it only start some other unrelated programs on my computer. I do not get the "Search Executable" and can't search on any .exe file the way the instruction says. I have the latest Java version installed om my W7 64 Bit system. Anyone knows what might be wrong?

Do you have all the files from the .zip in the same folder, that file is just for the graphical interface.

Yes, I have. It just doesn't behave like the instructions says, and I have no idea why :(

Hi Miquel, If the 470 GTX is anything to go by, they do not get maxed out in FSX whatsoever. Mine has not exceeded 80 degrees C while overclocked 25% running FSX full out, so the 480 won't be much different that way I think. You will love it!Stephen

This is really great news guys. I have been waiting and lurking all the online retailers to get this card and finally found one on tigerdirect. When I finally pushed the big red buy button I got a backordred email. Turns out it shipped today. Hopefully by the weekend I will be up and running. My old card is in for RMA and I am stuck with a very low end card. I had to dial down every slider just to be able to test out the VRS Superbug, which was good in a way because it forced me to stay on the ground and read the manual and get to know the systems. :( I ordered the EVGA GTX 480 Superclocked and this reassures me that the money will be well spent.
