For the guys who have the gtx 480/470 do you have any special cooling. I have heard that they run very hot. Any thoughts.

Mine is under water now. But even with stock cooling there is no heat or noise issue as long as you use this card only for FSX.

Stephen,I just installed EVGA Precision tuner, and these are the values I am seeing without changing anything:1674 core clock809 shader clock405 memory clockThese seem wrong to me, do you know what these should be reading from the factory?EDIT: Nevermind, had to download EVGA Precision 1.9.2

Thanks Crashmax, that is good news, I use my machine exclusively for FSX so no problem there. However, would FSX not be one of the most demanding sims on the market and thus causing excess heat on the card? I have gone through two cards in the last year which makes me wonder if I have adequate cooling. I am also worried about the GTX 480. I have read in forums and reviews from websites like tigerdirect that the card runs very hot.

I am no expert but what I heard from others is just the opposite. In FSX most of the load is on the CPU and the graphic card is underutilized.

I am certainly no expert as well but what I do know is that the shop that has my previous card away on RMA gave me a loaner and I had to put every slider to the left just to test the new VRS Superbug. I then flew out in the middle of the ocean to have any acceptable framerates. This seems to indicate that the graphics card carries the bulk of the load. Again I really don't know that much about how FSX works with the hardware so itnis just an uneducated observation. I am glad for the discusion.

Yes, the CPU speed is most important, but with BP=0, the GPU is just as important. I just upgraded from a GTX 275 to a GTX 470 and it has certainly helped. I can run BP=0 with much higher image quality and stability now.

The latest version of MSI Afterburner allows for voltage adjustments of the GTX 470 up to 1.087 volts.

phoenixphire,I am using an EVGA GTX 480 SC edition. I have my i7 950 OC'd to 4.2GHz on air uisng a Zalman CNPS10X. I have absolutely no heat issues using the GTX 480 in my system (and I've put alot of hours on it over the this last week). I have a Cooler Master Stacker 830 which is a beast of a case and I know helps me quite a bit to keep temps down inside. I have one 120 mm fan in the front bringing in fresh air and two 120mm fans in the back exhausting air nothing special.Regards,Bob

There are two models of the GTX470.Looks like one has a 607 MHz core clock, and the other one is a

They both generate the same amount of heat. It all boils down to if you want to spend the extra $35 for a little more performance or on the other hand If you an overclocker, save the money and OC the standard card yourself to gain some peformance.

+1 I have the standard version EVGA GTX 470 running 750Mhz core clock/1500Mhz shader clock/1700Mhz memory clock.

You have no heat issues but I was wondering how hot the card gets? (idle and load)

Oh lord, this is a sickness...just ordered an EVGA GTX 480. Returning the EVGA GTX 470, no problems with it , I just wanted the 480 but they weren't in stock last week at Fry's.

Can you run 3 monitors with this card ala ATI's 'Eyefinity'?
