You have no heat issues but I was wondering how hot the card gets? (idle and load)

Oh lord, this is a sickness...just ordered an EVGA GTX 480. Returning the EVGA GTX 470, no problems with it , I just wanted the 480 but they weren't in stock last week at Fry's.
Yes it is! I am just waiting for my EVGA Step-up number to come up (#30), then I will be exchanging the 470 GTX for the 480 GTX too. Exciting times!Stephen

Dang it, the store has it but the online system says they don't so I can't place a hold on it for in-store pickup. Hopefully it is still there tomorrow when I can go get it.

Excellent news, this confirms my earlier suspicions about Fermi. I wonder where the naysayers are now...
I doubted it simply because of all the technical talk pre-release at various hardware sites about how it was designed from the ground up for newer GPU limited games. This was before the UsePools=0 stuff ******* discovered that made the GPU much more powerful with respect to overall performance in FSX.Someone should compare it to a 285 with a default FSX.cfg, I'm actually curious to see if performance gets any better without *******'s tweaks.

If I can pick mine up tomorrow, I plan on testing with a default config at first.

McCrash, I have a PNY 480GTX installed in a Zalman HD160 media center case. As I type, it is idling at 43C with the fan on auto 44%. Using FSX I usually set the fan at 65%, barely audible and FSX runs at 65-68C. While using FS9 it is usually a few degrees cooler, around 62C. The computer room is currently at 24C. I haven't tried any other games with it, I only use FS. If you leave the fan on auto, the card usually gets between 75-78C with FSX. It's a great card!

Yes please, because I bought my 285 on Feb., no way I have to wait till 400 next versions (485 or something like that). Although I am really satisfied with my 285 now.As you know please expect fully similar condition (location, weather, time , aircraft , Graphic settings and ....)Thanks againBob

Just saw this thread, fantastic screens and was very happy to see them because I just ordered a GTX-470 on saturday. Should be quite a step up from my 8800gts.

Someone beat me to the GTX 480 at Fry's. I went ahead and ordered the Galaxy GTX 480 from Newegg with overnight shipping. Should have it tomorrow.

Did you get your Galaxy card yet? I'm really looking forward to your comparison between the 285 and the 480! How much RAM do you have on your current 285 card?I have a 285 and have been thinking if it's worth to upgrade to a 480 now with the BP=0 tweak letting FSX utilize the GFX card much more than before this tweak if I understood things correctly. However I got some advice in another thread on the same topic from someone who upgraded from a 285 to a 480 but said he didn't in fact notice much difference if any at all. However he had a 285 with 2 GB RAM, I only have 1 GB RAM on mine...not sure how much difference that will do to the result. Please give us some numbers between these two cards as soon as you have them and BIG thanks in advance for sharing the info and experiences! If possible maybe you could also post some screenshots to also notice any difference in quality and not only pure performance.

I have been reading the various reports about differing accounts of the comparative value of the Nvdia 400 series as opposed to the 200 series card for FSX. I had an over-clocked and stable 1792 mb EVGA 275GTX that had good performance that was replaced with an EVGA 470 GTX that has rocked my world. The difference is magic. Since I really wanted a 480 GTX, but could not get one at first, I am waiting for my turn for a step-up 480 version from EVGA. As written elsewhere on this thread and on many others, the new cards are far and away a huge improvement for FSX. There is just no way that any 200 series performance can be nearly equal to the 470 or 480 in FSX because the physical capabilities alone prohibit that from being remotely true. If anyone cannot see and document the huge improvement in steady and rich smoothness, then something else in their machine is a limiting factor. No 200 series is that good, and no 400 series is that bad that anyone should not see the huge difference Nvdia has delivered for FSX. To those on the edge of a decision on whether or not to buy one, don't hesitate. You will not be sorry you did.Stephen

I have to agree with Stephen 100%. The difference in FSX between a 200 series card and 400 series card is like night and day.

This thread is really talking to me! So the only question that remains is how much better is the GTX480 over the 470 (specifically for FSX)? I like the idea of the price, availability, power consumption and overclock capability of the 470. However when I brought my 275 instead of a 285, there was always the little voice at the back of my head asking if I'd passed up an even better FSX experience by selecting the (slightly) lesser card. Any experiences?Simon

Mmm...that is exactly the kind of input I want to hear although my wallet might not see it the same way :(Have the msi GTX 480 box here in front of me and guess it won't be long now before I can't stop myself from breaking the seal!
