May 7, 201016 yr ...on the Spectrum ZX...ZX Spectrum.. That brings out some memories :) I'm using BP=0 & Co. from Bojote.. no problems, even with PMDG 747, at EHAM, UT2@100% Airlines (0% GA), Autogen Very Dense, Water High 2x, everything else (except cars&boats=0) fully to the right. No spikes, no crashes,... Win7 64, 182.50 drivers (they work for me.. the last time I updated drivers to the newest ones (not now) they messed up everything, I got stutters & stuff.. went back to 182.. no stutters. New drivers are probably better but I'm sticking with that I know that works. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
May 7, 201016 yr Sure, why not (only important part is here, nothing else, I keep those that I change often when I tweak on top in my fsx.cfg):Much appreciated!I dont think there is anything new here that I haven't tried. But who knows, must be the right combo in there somewhere, but it probably also could just be the difference of the higher screen res vs the lower res that you are using as well as you not using AI.Will try it over the weekend and see.Cheers!

But I believe if it's working in 1600, it's gonna work 1920 too.
May 7, 201016 yr I mostly test in windowed and fly routes in full. But I believe if it's working in 1600, it's gonna work 1920 too.Thats about 20% difference in pixels so I would think that could push things over the top when using AA, but you think maybe it could just be the AI that kills it?Who knows, still will give it a few more tries.

These tweaks are VERY dependant on graphical settings of the FSX. They push things to the limit, which otherwise is not pushed. And when you do this, then you have to balance things more out, can't play crazy with whatever you like. You gotta see if not only 80% AI work out, maybe 50% works etc... Maybe only dense on AG, not very dense...
May 7, 201016 yr Commercial Member Here you go, a video I made in PNW using a GTX 480 + [email protected] + 2560x1600 resolution + 32xAA. I actually delete the fsx.cfg and let the sim build a new one from scratch, then I set all scenery sliders to max and get 40FPS locked. No stutters, spikes, black squares - nada.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvTvnjvperQFSX doesn't need tweaks, it needs good hardware. I've been saying that for years now. Cheers, John Venema

I've been saying that for years now.No disrespect, but that is a SMALL airport in comparison to big hubs, it has very little (or none?) AI aircraft on it, except GA. You are forgetting that you have no aircraft panels in view also (not those heavy ones)... I'm getting at least 60fps if not more in such situation. Without tweaks. And you are also flying low. Which is what most of people have no problem with. Why? You don't need high LOD and FSX has less to show. What about flying at 15,000-40,000ft? Ever looked down at the textures when LOD 4.5 (max FSX setting)?BUT:Please sit on the FSDT KJFK or AS Heathrow, with AI on the airport, high settings in FSX, SAME settings as in your PNW test, with a bit of weather, in the VC of the PMDG JS41 and tell me how much you get. Make a video of that? If you are getting 40fps, without any tweak, I'll shut up, forever, about any tweak again. <- some would probably appreciate it very much :(I never said tweaks are needed for FPS-light situations, like yours.

May 8, 201016 yr Honestly, I have no idea! I have my 15 years backing me up, tweaking and reinstalling each OS to its bones.I'm 31 now, started back when I was 13 on programming on the Spectrum ZX, got my first 486 when I was 14, after 1 week I asked my dad for Windows install floppies because I deleted *something* and since then I never stopped tweaking :( .No, I didn't say that - what are high settings? For which machine? I'm not using AI btw. But I tried AI (WOAI). Only thing it does for me, it lowers general FPS. No other problems. As I fly online, I don't need AI.And yes, it doesn't CRASH. Worst thing happening to me FPS gets low and FSX starts to stutter. But that is why I'm not installing (or buying) things like USCitiesX which cripple your performance to the bones, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO.Word Not Allowed-with respect - tweaking since 1981 on a commodore vic 20-quemm 386 or whatever it was called and trying to maximize 512k...or whatever pathetic memory we had then..that would put me at almost 30 years of doing this-yikes! :( ..and what I have learned is if you need to tweak you need better hardware. Improving hardware for a fact seems to work every time like a charm-most tweaks appear to me like snake oil.Yes-when I went from my 386 33 mhz to 386 66 mhz at 3 times the cost of a high end system today I was very happy-for a very little while. :( -the next pentium I ,gave me a new high of 12 fps and I was molto happy--for a while....I have to say I am pretty satisfied with my 30-40 fps with the type of flying I do..for now. I see a new video card within the next year and a new computer 1-2 years later. That is my tweak! I doubt I'll get famous for it-but it really works! Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

I even made startup files for different games, because each needed different memory management :( Those were the days... and you've been there a little longer than I have! But you must understand one thing: the need for a better hardware is not necessarily a possibility for everyone to be able to get a new hardware. I other words, not everyone can spend as much money on hardware as others can. Those are left with nothing else than to tweak. On the other hand, it's also a kind of satisfaction for some to tweak, otherwise it wouldn't be such a popular "hobby" B).We all know though, that upgrade is ALWAYS for a while. I work in a store where we sell commercial laptops and computers, no separate hardware, so we get those usual customers who come in without an idea what they want and expect us to find out. And there is a statement from the customer that always makes me chuckle a bit: "I would like a fast and a future-proof computer". Hm, right, yeah. B)
May 8, 201016 yr I'm a member of the 30 Year Tweakers Assoc. too. Started when my Grandpa bought his first Apple II PC back around 1980. I can well remember the fun of trying to create a dos boot disk that would free up 628 of the total 640k of memory on my system to get Falcon 3.0 to run. In all the years of tweaking FS9 I can honestly count on one hand the number of supposed magic bullets that actually made any positive impact at all without cuasing some negative impact to basically offset the gain. I'm of the opinion that to a large extent tweaking allows us to emphasize one aspect of the sim usually to the detriment of some other aspect and it becomes a matter of personal preference whether or not the net gain is positive or negative. You may be able to speed up texture loading, but it will be at the expense of framerate. Or perhaps you can eliminate stutters, but you'll have to put up with a few blurries. That sort of thing. A given tweak might work well for the guy who only ever flies the heavies at 30,000 f agl but not well at all for the GA guy, etc etc.

May 8, 201016 yr They'll tell you that if movies only need 24fps then why should the game.Hehe, yeah. These guys are completely oblivious to the concept of motion blur (movies) vs. crisp images (games) and its impact on the perception of fluidity. ;)
