GTX 285 -> GTX 480

You can't see it because you don't own one. :( If you did and tried the new tweaks, you too would "see" the results.I can honestly say:Without the new tweaks and my new gtx480, I would have given up on FSX. Now I'm in heaven!

Something that is not mentioned too often, is the 480 has a smaller 384bit memory bus, vs the 512bit bus on the 280/285.In the past a wider memory bus proved best for FSX, Phil Taylor had a article to that effect back in 2008 :http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2008...d-consumer.aspx

Very interesting info and a little bit strange considering the majority of 480 users seem happy with their cards also those who upgraded from 285s but of course there are lots of other parameters playing a part in this as well.

But the 480 has DDR5 memory and the 285 has DDR3 memory. At stock speeds the GTX285 has a 159GB/s memory bandwidth and the GTX480 is at 177GB/s.

I recently upgraded from a GTX 285 to a GTX 480. Frame rate is the same as when I had the GTX 285 in FSX but then again I expected that since FSX is mainly CPU bound unless you have an extremely slow video card. However in my other games I noticed a big improvement in performance.

Just the opposite here. Upgraded form a GTX285 to GTX480, a week ago. With 1920X1200, almost doubled fps in FSX, quick loaded textures and everything "feels" faster. In FS9, very similar fps to the GTX285. Best.Miquel.

I said this before, but I find it hard to believe a CPU Limited game would gain almost double the frame rates from a 285 (which is powerful anyway) to a 480

the gap which causes you to believe or not to believe can be filled by understanding the relationship between CPU and GPU. Up until very recently, the GPU part of the equation has been suppressed. Hey-sus's tweaks now allow the GPU to shine. double might be a subjective number. But nuch much faster FPS is the reality.

Read this. There were attempts to derail the thread by a couple other posters, which sadly resulted in the thread being closed, but the posts I made still contain good info.

ok fair enough - I'll keep an open mind - thanks - maybe I'm just out of date on the current FSX tweaksif its becoming able to offload more onto the GPU after mods/tweaks - then :) !
