Why so few sceneries?

I see...so partdata/animation tags are removed when you build the object? The oil rig example in the SDK seems to have animation.I guessed that this used partdata/animation.There are a few non-aircraft animations listed in modeldef.xml (names/guid only - no script BTW)I'm sure someone has already tried writing a new animation tag in modeldef.xml and assigning it to a

I dont understand why aces never made better tools and better options better control on scenery design kinda sucks theres no fs11 for now at least would have loved to see better and approved ways of doing high quaitly ground work polys etc etc.

Nope, I've tried exactly what you outlined. No luck. The sim does support ambient animations for scenery - things like flags waving and other anims that just loop continuously - but not variable-specific ones. I can make a flag that waves in the breeze, but it'll wave regardless of whether there's any wind or not.The idea behind removing conditional code from the BGLs, as I understand it, was to boost performance. I've no idea if it worked, but that's what we're left with.

In all fairness, they did make some notable improvements in the tools w/FSX. A bunch of things we used to need third-party tools and hacks for are now built into the material properties in Max/Gmax. They added a bunch of new properties and options, too. Who knows where it would have gone if the FS series had continued...

I would love a good Chicago Midway (KMDW) in FSX. Anyone know if this is under development?
Aerosoft's U.S CitiesX - Chicago includes a redone Midway... not sure if it includes what you are looking for though..

Thanks for the reply, Bert. It does look better than the default, but falls short of what I look for (FSDT) in total quality. If no one else attempts this, I may buy it anyway.
