July 29, 201015 yr Hi all,I'm thinking of picking up a couple of carenado planes from sim market's sale (ending saturday). I've never bought any of their planes and I've generally been more of a tubeliners kind of guy, so I'm a bit clueless as to which ones are considered by the community to be especially good. I know people have been very excited about the bonanza, so I'm thinking very strongly about that one. I was also considering the new bush C185F, since I've been looking for a bush plane to use with PNW (and the A2A cub is a little pricey for me). But those were just thoughts and I'd be curious to see if you guys have any suggestions or advice. Thanks!James
July 29, 201015 yr My take - the A2A Cub is so far superior to anything from Carenado that if you can swing it at all, you should. I'd rather have that than two or three Carenados. The only qualifier is that it's very slow - too much so for some, though I find you get into the rhythm of it and you see a lot more scenery, which is great in places like PNW. The Accusim package is essential to get the most out of it, though - it affects not only systems but also the flight model. As for the Carenados - the 185 is very popular and it's great for PNW. I find the handling a little unresponsive compared to others - it's a bit like driving a pickup - but that's my reaction to the plane, not to Carenado's modeling of it. The Bonanza has gotten better after several revisions (as did the 185), but for that kind of performance I still find myself turning more often to the RealAir SF260 and Duke. My favorite Carenados are still the 152 and the 172 - they seem to me at least to have the most refined flight models and the atmosphere is great. Not exactly bush planes but good general purpose GA. And for PNW you could always add the 172 float and ski packages for just a little more.Others will have other opinions. Listen to everybody. July 29, 201015 yr The Bonanza and the C185F bush are nice: I own the Bonanza and the regular C185F. I like the bush version more, I think, but I felt cheated when they released it for a lower price than the regular C185F I bought before that, so I skipped that one: btw for the moment I will skip ANY Carenado plane because of their 'release-a-beta-and-see-what-happens' policy. (The Bonanza still isn't working as it should (GPS) and I don't like it that I have to edit all kind of xml files to get the plane working properly). I also own the C182 RG which is nice but I like the other two more.Even though I don't like Carenado's way of working (and the fact that they don't reply to messages at all) the Bonanza is my default plane. Luckily I mainly fly in PNW and know the area better and better so the not-completely working VC GPS isn't a real problem (the pop up (which I don't like to use) does work but isn't completely related to the VC version, which is rather odd). The Bonanza is very well equipped (you really have everything you need in it: other Carenado planes might miss some lights or buttons) and has enough buttons to keep you happy during flights. In short: I'd get the Bonanza and the C185F: it's also nice that one is a taildragger and that one has high wings and the other has low wings.
July 29, 201015 yr I like the 185 F Bush enormously - and it's a steal at the price, given that it has tundra tyres, amphib + ski variants. Altogether better value than the standard 185. But it's a taildragger, so you may like that, or not. If not, the 152 is very nice. The A2A PC is lovely, but too slow for me. I don't want to rush my GA flights from A to B, but there's rushing... and there's not getting there. I'd endorse StEx's view about the SF260, it remains probably my 1st choice. Paul Skol

Too slow haha...The best fde (after hard work from members of the forums) goes to their C185 and F33 Bonanza. I use the Bonanza in PNW-obviously not the best short field choice but it's fps friendly and fast. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 29, 201015 yr James, at the sale price I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I just bought the two on the 26th and have enjoyed flying both. I will say though if you can buy only one get the F33A. True it still has some issues with the GPS but hopefully they will be addressed in the future. I REALLY LIKE the engine sounds on both aircraft BTW. :( Steve Steve Corzine

July 29, 201015 yr Author Thanks all--decided to go ahead and get the bonanza and c185f. One of these days I may break down and get the Accusim Cub, if I have some extra money burning a hole in my pocket, that is... :(Thanks again for all the helpful input.James
July 30, 201015 yr Thanks all--decided to go ahead and get the bonanza and c185f.Good choice - I have the A2A cub and the Carenado 185 . The main difference for me is that the 185 is much more capable as an airplane than the J3. This has nothing to do with the planes as produced by A2A and Carenado as both are very good.BTW, loads of good repaint for either plane.Howard
