August 4, 201015 yr Northwest's airline pilots surf the web on lap tops while they fly. Although sometimes they miss their destination by a 150 miles or so :( Actually an ex coworker of mine is dating a guy who flys for American Eagle. He told me that on longs flights they take turns listening to their iPods and stuff like that. Not sure what Americans policy is, but that's what they do, just not at the same time.In all honesty though, when I am on a 2 hour or longer flight on an airliner, I can't make myself just sit and stare at the screen. Since I have another computer next to my FSX computer, its easy to browes or find something to occupy the time. I admit though that I prefer to keep my airliner flights to trips that are no longer than about 1.5 hours so I dont need to find time to occupy myself. If I am going to do a KLAX to KJFK run, I will break it into stops in Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, then New York.LOLYes, indeed, surfing the web isn't totally unrealistic, but mowing the lawn is... :( Whatever real pilots do, they NEVER leave the plane! As I said I sometimes read a book because I can do that with FSX still running (and the engines still screaming in my ears), so I also might take a laptop to my FSX computer and surf on it while flying but I wouldn't surf on the computer that's running FSX. :( That's my way of making things realistic.

August 14, 201015 yr Where do you usually fly?I use Flight Aware to plan and schedule flights between airports. Sometimes I'll stay in Asia, Europe, South America. Sometimes its a long haul Pacific run. As long as there is a connector, I will go. What plane do you usually fly?Recently its the PMDG 744. I still haven't gotten bored of the Queen. Next MD-11, I am just waiting for the NGX so I can do short hops. What airline do you fly?The airline that has the depating flight to my destination. Usually British Airways. BA has a great departure schedule. Do you go through checklists and mimic all real life procedures or do you play casually?I do use checklists. FS2CREW is a nice addon, but sometimes takes too long for my taste. What is the longest flight you have undertaken?12 hrs Chicago-Seoul. What is the coolest place you have flown to?I love Rio! Seeing that big cross on the mountain makes it seem like I am really flying. (realism)What is the most remote destination that you have flown to?Pago PagoDo you play solo free flight or do you play on VATSIM?Solo. Do you use time accelerator?Absolutely not! What do you do (in real life) while you are cruising?Sleeping, running errands, working. Do you have a "home" airport?EGLL
August 14, 201015 yr Where do you usually fly?Wherever I have a whim to do so. Right now, I'm focusing on my FsPax airline, which is based at KSAN, so most of my flights are in that region. What plane do you usually fly?Going with the above, Lionheart's Epic Victory, though once I can afford more planes, I'll slowly move on to Aerosoft's Twin Otter, Captain Sim's 757, PMDG's MD-11 and their NGX when it's released. What airline do you fly?Whichever, not too partial, though I do not take airlines outside their regions (I wouldn't fly a US Air 757 in Russia, for instance).Do you go through checklists and mimic all real life procedures or do you play casually?I'll use checklists for the airplane, as well as STARs, SIDs, and IAPs, but I'm fine with not following all regulations. Especially not landing restrictions. Can't count the number of crashes and wild landings I've had because I take RVRs as suggestions. What is the longest flight you have undertaken? In FS9, I went from Kansai either Seoul or Shanghai to Murmansk on the second leg of an unintentional around-the-world flight. In FSX, it was from JFK to Charles de Gaulle in the PMDG 747.What is the coolest place you have flown to?Gibraltar's a cool place now that Aerosoft's put out a scenery for it.What is the most remote destination that you have flown to?Point Barrow, AlaskaDo you play solo free flight or do you play on VATSIM?Solo, my internet connection has a habit of cutting out and...Do you use time accelerator?...I do. But only for long flights. That JFK-Paris flight? Time accelerated. However, I will not accelerate my regular FsPax shuttle run of San Diego-Catalina IslandWhat do you do (in real life) while you are cruising?Surf the internet, listen to music, read a bit, solve Rubik's cubes...Do you have a "home" airport?Right now, KSAN for my FsPax airline, but if I'm testing a new addon plane, I typically go to Hawaii's Dillingham (if it's a small plane) or St. Maarten (for the biggies). Alan F ----- Win7 x64, ASUS P6X58D Premium, Intel i7-960 3.2 GHz, Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 5770 1GB, Mushkin Blackline DDR3 3x2GB I get > 20 FPS @ Ultra High or better everything until I come across addon scenery. -----
August 14, 201015 yr Where do you usually fly?Continental US plus Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, Northern Mexico, the Caribbean and the Bahamas. What plane do you usually fly?I've been about half in the Duke and half in the 185F recently, but almost always GA.What airline do you fly?N/ADo you go through checklists and mimic all real life procedures or do you play casually?Checklists? Sometimes I like to take the Cub and sight-see, but I love blasting rocks off the walls and scaring the hikers and rafters in the L-39 What is the most remote destination that you have flown to?Deadhorse, AKDo you play solo free flight or do you play on VATSIM?both, mostly soloDo you use time accelerator?rarelyWhat do you do (in real life) while you are cruising?Drink tea or coffee and watch the scenery, maybe read a little.Do you have a "home" airport?94K, Cassville, MO. It's a tiny one I know. I need to make an AFCAD for it!
August 14, 201015 yr Where do you usually fly?Almost always a new airport I've never been to. I try to make mental notes about interesting airports I fly over, and want to fly into some day in the future.I take 'trips', always taking off from the airport I last landed. Right now I just started my yearly/bi-yearly trip from my home airport to the Seattle area, then up to Alaska via British Columbia. I also take a yearly or bi-yearly trip to Europe. This past one I did some flying in Czechoslovakia, which actually was quite enjoyable. What plane do you usually fly?Oh man, I have over 50 aircraft, and try to give all of them a good amount of time. To do this, I actually chart my time in each, complete with a graph, so I can see which ones are being neglected. Yea....obsessive, I know :( After years of becoming somewhat addicted to the autopilot, I just recently decided to fly nothing but my bi-planes, and other simple aircrfat like my A2A Cub, Auster J1, etc. Been doing this for about two months now, and really enjoying actually flying the darn planes, and doing everything by hand. I have a feeling when I get back in my more modern aircraft, I will maintain a desire to fly them as well, instead of hitting a few switches.Bottom line, I'm a general aviation enthusiast. What airline do you fly?None really. The only 'big iron' I have flown in the past few years are the A2A B377, but even then, fly it as as an Air Force aircraft. Other smaller stuff like the Twin Otter, MAAM DC-3 (actually one of my favorite all-time aircraft), ES Citation X, etc.I used to fly airliners back in the FS5 days, but lost interest. My father was a pilot, so I had experiance in GA stuff, and that is what I truly love.Do you go through checklists and mimic all real life procedures or do you play casually?I attempt to fly as real as possible and practical. I attempt to follow all the flight rules, use real world charts and IAP's, use only real weather (but not always the actual time). I rarely just go up for a 'spin'. The only time I do that is testing a new aircrfat, or new avionics I've installed, etc. What is the longest flight you have undertaken? It is typically crossing the ocean on my way to Europe via Greenland/Iceland/Faroe Islands, etc. Somewhere in the 4-6 hour range. What is the coolest place you have flown to?So many. One of my favorite Countries to fly is Norway, but I am also partial to British Colombia, Alaska, the Newfoundland area, French Alps, Switzerland, Austria, traveling around the Great Lakes area...and so many more. What is the most remote destination that you have flown to?Barrow Alaska. I doubt I will fly to Barrow again.Do you play solo free flight or do you play on VATSIM?Solo only.Do you use time accelerator?Never. What do you do (in real life) while you are cruising?Right now, as I'm flying all my aircrfat 'by hand', I'm flying the dang plane trying to stay on course and at the proper altitude! :( :( When I use autopilot, usually surfing the net on my adjacent computer, or investigating something related to my aircraft or flight. Most often, I stay in the cockpit, and 'tinker' with my aircraft, look at my gauges and systems, fuel usage, check out the surrounding area via the chart I am using (I usually use sectionals) etc. Usually I'm 'all in' while I'm flying, and try not to get distracted, even when I'm just clicking buttons.Do you have a "home" airport?Yep, right now it is KLPR, but it has been different ones in the past. I don't seem to stay for very long before I'm off on another trip.
