August 5, 201015 yr I was checking out some other videos and found this one featuring the PMDG 737NG flying into St. Barths with the notoriously short runway that you have to hug the hill and dodge traffic to reach the runway. Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
August 5, 201015 yr This was probably done by setting a strong headwind in the weather options. Its kinda funny how limited FS is in this regard. I have seen videos of larger aircraft taking off on a dime with even stronger headwinds. Such things do not happen in reality of course. "A life is like a garden. August 5, 201015 yr Theoretically if you have a strong enough headwind you can ballence the power to the wind and hover a fixed wing aircraft like a helicopter. You could climb like an elevator too. Though this is theoretical and if you tried it in real life I would expect you to be six feet under realitivley quickly.
August 5, 201015 yr Yeah, the "strong enough" wind is called cyclone and it's definitely bad idea to fly towards it :(

Assuming the headwind cancels out forward thrust you will actually climb backwards as soon as you raise the nose due to added drag and the thrust vector shifting downwards. You would need additional thrust to compensate the loss of speed like in a "normal" climb. "A life is like a garden. August 5, 201015 yr That flare and touchdown didn't look very realistic. To be honest, I wouldn't want to be able to land a realistically simulated FSX airliner on a runway only 2100 feet in length. It would do nothing more than broadcast THIS IS NOT AS REAL AS IT GETS to me in huge glowing neon letters. August 5, 201015 yr Theoretically if you have a strong enough headwind you can ballence the power to the wind and hover a fixed wing aircraft like a helicopter. This is absolutely not theoretical but very real indeed. Not necessarily talking about a jet obivously but everyone who has flown a prop in strong upper wind conditions knows how to easily render numbers close to zero on the GPS GS readout, as well as flying backwards. Regards

Regards Yep, we used to do glider landings in strong winds by just hovering over the field and adding a little bit of speed the last few meters to compensate for ground effectcheersmartin Martin Bunjes
August 5, 201015 yr Just to add on this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfeMLQNe57E George Golas ---------------------- I hate gravity!
August 5, 201015 yr That is cool! And in my understanding to climb like an elevator you would need to match the thrust to the wind or yes, you will be blowen backwards. Not sure if it is practicly possible, theoretically it should be possible
