Good airport scenery packages

Its weird to hear somebody calling KDEN a second tier airport when infact it is the largest airport in the US and one of the largest in the world. I'd love a high quality KDEN as well
Yeah, not too mention I think its the highest US Airport in elevation. Someone should do it and put oxygen tanks with quarter slots around the facilities :)Same goes for KATL. That one is one of the largest, at least in passenger volume. I don't own any payware KATL, does anyone? Then again the default FSX one is pretty good I think.*Edit: For the record, Leadville Airport (KLXV - Also in Colorado) is the highest airport in North America and the third highest in the world. It is long enough (6400') to land and takeoff with a PMDG heavy if anyone is bored :(

Hopefully Shez updates his BUR scenery for FSX eventually. Agreed about PHX and I think imaginesim is going to do DEN eventually.

KDEN is second tier if you reserve the top tier to just hugemongus hubs, Paris DeG, ORD, London Heathrow. Maybe I just dont realize how many flights go to/through Denver (I have flown their in the past), but I just wouldn't put KDEN in the same boat as KJFK, KATL, KORD, or KLAX.

For those with nothing better to do (like me)...Here is a fairly quick flight from KDEN to KLXV. It's 85 miles straight shot, but this route will take you in for a GPS RW16 approach and is 103nm and a nice scenic route at that. Try it in something small, but be sure it can handle it!Waypoints with Airways: DEN BREWS V134 DAVVY (DAVVY is the Initial Approach Fix so see the chart here).Full waypoint list (including approach waypoints and altitudes according to real world chart in () ):KDEN DEN BREWS FUNDS DAVVY LASCH(FL140) INGRR(FL130) DISUW(11,540') KLXV RW16(TDZE =9,928')To look the route over, go to http://www.runwayfinder.com and paste the following into the "Location" block and hit enter: KDEN;DEN/V;BREWS;FUNDS;DAVVY;LASCH;INGRR;DISUW;KLXVFrom a quick satelite recon, it looks like it'll be pwetttty. Try you VOR skills:Depart KDEN and fly direct to the DEN VOR on 117.9 - Outbound on the 238 Radial.Intercept the FQF outbound R-254 on 116.3 (@ the BREWS intersection).Intercept the DBL R-244 on 113.0 (@ the FUNDS intersection).DAVVY is a short way from here and again is the IAF for GPS RW16.Here are the Flightplans in FS and PMDG format. I have not yet flown it, but will soon enough after I eat. Looking at the surrounding real world elevation I have it set for FL150 (inbounds with the Vectorway as well) for what looks like some nice viewing pleasure. Perfect weather for it if you depart,,, now!*Meant to be fun, although aside from maybe the elevation I don't know how this would be too unrealistic either.

Here are some screenshots along the above trip. I was really hoping FSDT was going to make a Canadian airport I really thought CYYZ or CYVR had a chance, I have been using that excellent freeware version of YYZ in FSX, but it's really is bad on frames an FSDT YYZ would be great, as for YVR I don't really use anything.

Wikipedia ranks KDEN as the 10th busiest airport in the world by to passenger traffic in 2009, ahead of airports like JFK, Schiphol and Hong Kong, and as the 5th busiest airport in the world by traffic movement in 2008 (the 2009 numbers are not complete, but it ranks 5th in the incomplete list as well), ahead of airports like Charles de Gaulle, Heathrow and JFK. Its a mega airport for sure.

I do.I have the Imaginesim version. Two things I like about it. First, on my rig I can run it with the scenery complexity sliders all the way to the right and get better FPS than I do with the default KATL. Second thing I like about it is that it has runway 10/28 included which I believe the default FSX version is missing. Although you could download Jim Vile's KATL ADE and approach update, I am pretty happy with Imaginesims rendering. One thing about their ATL though. If you buy it and install it, you may want to remain on version 1, rather than install the v2 update. The reason being is that others in the FSX forum have reported that the update includes some new lighting effect that don't look as good as v1. Personally, having owned v1 for a few years now I am happy with the way it looks and works and haven't even considered running the update since I don't care for their "improved" approach lights and runway lights. They have a free trial you can download and try for yourself.

Nice, thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out sometime this morning.

I have KATL from Imaginesim and I enjoy it very much. I also have from them KIAD,KCVG,and KCLT. There's some serious lack of attention to major airport hubs such as KDEN,KPHX,KTUS,KIAH(NOT FOR THE BLUEPRINT VERSION),KSAT,KSTL. Those I just pointed out are really needed for FSX.I'm glad that FSDT is doing KLAX and at some point KMIA.:(

Kenneth, how is KIAD from them? I saw the screen shots in their site and it looks pretty good, but was wondering about the performance in FSX, assuming your running it in FSX. As you can see in my sig I have their KATL, TJSJ, and KCLT and they all work well on my rig in FSX, but I have yet to get KIAD until I get more feedback on it. I know they have the trial like FSDT does but I am not much for trials since they dont last very long.Sean Campbell

To be honest, I am surprised at the numbers. I figured DEN to be more around the passenger load of SFO, not as close to DFW or ORD or ATL. Then again, LAX seems to me a quiet airport and easy to get around when compared to flying through O'Hare, which is just a mess of people. Same with Heathrow.

wish I has read this post earlier, could have joined you up there. Looks like a great route, and I plan to fly for sure.
Heya Scott, curious to see if you tried this scenic flight yet? 2 reasons I ask, one because is just pretty sweet, two because I just did it again and thought last nights may have been a fluke so didn't mention it but, I know you use Radar Contact and it doesn't seem to like the fact that I need to descend to land at this particular airfield :(.Of course, I urge anyone to try this route and if possible, to maybe answer the question of what RC is thinking here. Thanks,Edit: It looks like RC4 has the MSA for KLXV for 14,300', I guess I should have checked the NOTAM's box.

I havent yet, as I have this thing where I feel I must fly from place to place so my log book matches up. My virtual self is in Hawaii at the moment, and plane on flying back to the mainland today or tomorrow, then I will try your route for sure. As far as RC goes, what JD did was get his hands on a database to determine the MSAs for each airport. These values can cause some problems when flying into certain airports as you have seen. It is nice for departures as it will clear you to a high enough altitude to not crash into anything, but for approaches, it will often present the problem of not clearing you low enough soon enough to carry out the appropriate approach without using a holding pattern or a procedure turn.I have found myself, when looking at the winds and location of the airport, that if I know I am going into an airport, or use a specific runway where either terrain or air restrictions will prohibit straight in vectors, plan on the appropriate IAP (usually RNAV is best if available in these situations), and ask for that immediately after getting handed over to TRACON. I do this everytime I fly into KPSP, do it when I see the active runway for KDCA will 01, just a few days ago flying into PHNL, the winds were blowing from the west this time, which meant a straight approach would bring me over the city, which is a no-no, so I used the RNAV approach into 26L there. Radar Contact has a major weakness dealing with terrain, as it has no clue what it is, or what it is like around you, so it uses the MSA value as a hard cap so to speak. IIRC, you said your cruise was 15000 MSL, which would mean RC will see it is not able to clear you to descend by a 1,000 foot increment, which is all it does (aside from clearing you for an IAP). Checking the NOTAM box will allow you to ignore ATC when it gives you a heading or altitude that results in a permanent union with a mountain, but what it looks like you need to do when flying into Lake County Airport is once you are handed over to approach, or if that field does not have approach, when the Center asks if you have the current weather, as for the IAP approach, and then ATC will leave you alone and let you do your thing. Best way to fly into an airport in the mountains with RC. Letting RC vector you for a visual approach is about the worst thing you can do, as I often get led so far away and end up behind a mountain, that there is no hope in seeing where the runway is.Hope I helped in that long post of mine. Sometimes I cannot help my self.
