Good airport scenery packages

Featured Replies

I find Eiresim's Cork Ultimate very good. I know the airport very well from flying out of there so I've been very impressed how accurate it is. There's a review of it on Avsim if you're interested.I think they're releasing Alicante soon so looking forward to that!

What do you guys think about FSDreamTeams KDFW compared to the BluePrint one?

I own Heathrow uk2000 and I think it's plain sickyou would probably be better off asking in the FSX section anyway
I've got that along with all the other Xtreme airports. What's wrong with it? I think it's excellent, especially when you consider the price.Iain Smith

I will second (or third) FS Dreamteam...I consider them the PMDG of airport sceneries - meaning anything they make, I buy :)

Cool thread, Andrew. A couple titles here I never seen before that I'll soon check out. For airports I have all of the FSDT's and some Fly Tampa's. Fly Tampa's KBOS is awesome! Here are some pix of my last flight (just a few more flights in the C182 and I can afford to buy a JS41 - it's an FSPassenger career thing, but thought I'd mention why I'm not in a PMDG hehe). There are boat loads I want to show you but these are ready for now:These are from FSDT's KORD:1t.jpg Click the picture for a larger version, or "Click Here" for the original (Huge).2t.jpg Click the picture for a larger version, or "Click Here" for the original (Huge).3t.jpg Click the picture for a larger version, or "Click Here" for the original (Huge).4t.jpg Click the picture for a larger version, or "Click Here" for the original (Huge).

Ooops, yes I also loves my ORBX/FTX, and Ryan, yeah haha those are just my favorite colors for some reason :( I see a lot of people in the forums get annoyed when something is painted that doesn't exist in the real world, but I guess I don't take my gaming that seriously :wink:With FSP you start with very little and need hours to progress and get promoted to fly the bigger boys so since I named my company United Danlines I figured I'd do all old UA colors to each aircraft I bought :) The plane in the pic is the Carenado C Skylane 182 RG II. Unfortunately I had to make my own paint kit since they aren't as gernerous as PMDG. I just tried to buy a JS41 but am short the coin ($5,000,000.00 short) <cry>.I'm working on the JS41 now in the same color scheme as the rest of my fleet but not sure if it will hit the market.

As mentioned abovei think uk2000 sceneries are simply the best around, and have been on top for years..the fact is gary updates his sceneries regularly, they look the best, but most importantly, the fps are so so far superior to aerosoft for example..the newer aerosoft titles are better than the older ones [not including amsterdamn which actually wasnt made by aersoft], the worse aerosoft sceneries are brussels and heathrow, worst fps i have ever come across. but the new holiday resorts is good, and a step in the right direction..another one that hasnt had a mention, is latinvfr. They have just made [released this month] my favourite airport of all time "Tobago - TTCP" and i regularly fly my pmdg747 down from gatiwick in VIR51 [real flights]. also jamaica is good. Then Fsdreamteam.. Zurich in particular i find hard on the fps, but the new dallas is excellent :)

What do you guys think about FSDreamTeams KDFW compared to the BluePrint one?
I can answer this question now as I have had both sceneries for KDFW. Firstly the FSDT scenery on the ground is absolutely stunning. Problem for me and quite a few users is the flashing and bleed through when viewing the airport from above, approach. The support forum is good but for me in the end I would rather install and enjoy not spend hous and hours ( which I did), trying different fixes for the issue. In the end I had enough and uninstalled FSDT's KDFW and installed the BluePrint one. After the visuals of the FSDT version the Blue Print one was a major disappointment. It looks like 2004 scenery with a few buildings added. The runway surface, taxi markings and taxi and approach lights look standard FSX to me. The only advantage is the buildings, though not highly detailed resemble the actual buildings. I have 2 Aerosoft airports. Frankfurt and Amsterdam. Frankfurt is fantastic but Amsterdam suffers from some accuracy issues which have been highlighted in their forums. Aerosoft instead of taking responsibility have blamed the developer and as a result there has been no answer to any questions regarding a service pack for the airport. Personally I wouldn't buy another FSDT or Blueprint product. A good tip is to visit the product forums for any possible issues, problably something I should have invested more time doing. Next I will try FlyTampa and UK2000 sceneries. These are only my opinions.Andrew Dixon

Hi Andrew, Glad to see you're getting your hands wet. Unforutunately though having these issues. I can say from experience of running addon airports for a long time that some issues with flickering from distance on detailed scenery is quite normal. It is FSX that draws it's detail at it's distance settings and the flickering happens to me too. I never saw this as an issue since even some default areas do it but again, based on its complexity. It's kind of like not having mipmaps for aircraft textures.I can remember though my first disappoints when seeing this for the first time. Now I'm quite use to it but know where the problem lies. All of my advanced airports do this briefly if I'm watching close enough, but the more detail they have the more they do it. I don't know if it's possible, but I suppose some of the creators may be able to just shut them off completely until you're within xx miles, rather than watching as certain elements come to life. Sometimes it is how textures tie together at the seems. Some sort of direct draw fight, but this problem gets better per machine.Anywho, glad to see your getting going and that is a good tip. One I practice on all purchases now :(

Hi Dan,This was a more than a little flicker with terrible bleedthrough of scenery. This airport just didn't work on my system. This is the only airport that does this to that extent. Messing with XML.exe and XML dll files to try to get it to run properly is not my idea of install and enjoy. Dont forget Frankfurt and Amsterdam are complex airports and don't display this characteristic. The try before you buy argument has been raised but when you check out an airport generally its not from an approach or takeoff perspective. When I decide to check out some of the other AI traffic or other planes on Vatsim at KDFW,I discovered missing buildings, planes halfway in the ground, ground textures that just wouldn't load and I was able to move the camera under the ground! This scenery just didn't play well with anything on my system. It is a shame because on the ground the scenery is stunning.CheersAndrew

I hear ya. One thing I hate is when I buy an addon and have to go straight to the support forum after install because of bugs. I am a gamer in general and normally enjoy the latest and greatest graphical genre, but I honestly think my FS addons are the bugiest things I buy. One thing I forgot to mention was there are other issues where addon airports and certain addons scenery collide. For me I had to disable FS Genisis for Boston since my Fly Tampa airport and it looked like crap (like you said, buildings 1/2 under ground and flying ground vehicles). It added some ground flicker as well but mainly runways. Once I disabled FSGenesis all was fine. I had another issue with running FSPassengers and it because they have custom runways and FSP didn't recognize the tarmac. I was able to quickly fix it since I use airport designers often enough, but again, one of those things I rather not worry about as much as I tend to in the sim world.Keep us updated on your reviews, I love fresh reviews of products through the unbiased eyes of others and am always looking to try something new.
