August 14, 201015 yr Yep, AI in FSX will take your performance like the goverment will take your money. lol Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
August 14, 201015 yr Moderator jja, that's weird that you have such a large variation in FPS with or without UT2 traffic, however 45 FPS at KLAX is pretty good.Me at KLAX with everything cranked up and a complex airliner and UT2 traffic 26 FPS, same scenario without UT2 traffic 28 FPS. 100% UT2 airline traffic usually only takes 2 to 3 FPS out at most of my aiports when I am running it at that level. It almost never makes sense for me to disable it because I dont usually gain many FPS back. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

August 15, 201015 yr Moderator What tweaks are people using to see such high frames in busy areas? You know David that's a tough question to answer given the unlimited amount of variables in the sim.For me I think its a bunch of things ranging from how your OS is set up to which options you have checked in Ultimate Terrain. For me I attribute a lot of it to having used FS-GS to work my whole system from top to bottem leaving nothing to chance and that maybe part of the reason I can keep up with people running newer and better hardware. Here are a few things to look at however.1. If using REX or FSX examine your clouds. Are you using the DXT's or 32 bit? Which size, 1024's or 4096's? How big are your water textures and how aggresivw are the water animations?2. In Ultimate Terrain do you have every single option enabled or only picked ones that were important to you that you will actually see? I fly airliners so every single little road and bridge isn't at all important to me and probably saves me FPS. Plus I dont use the night lights.3. What type of traffic are you using, BGL or injected traffic(UT2)? IF UT2 what are your minimal spawn distances and max a/c spawn amount? Are all you AI mip mapped?4. The a/c you fly, are you using DXT or 32 bit textures?5. Addon airports you buy, do you mip map the textures? If they use 32 bit textures do you convert them to DXT's? I could go on and on, but I think you get the drift. For some people like me I have spent hours converting textures of sceneries and airport addons, adding mips to a/c and buildings, choosing settings that are relavant to the type of flying I do. If everyone went thru steps like this I would imagine a lot more people would get better performance and enjoy FSX a lot more.In fact, usually when I buy a new addon airport or plane, the first thing I do when I install it is to open it up in a texture editor and have a look around to see whats mipped, what size texture they are and stuff like that. Then i'll take a test flight with it at stock evaluate the performance and make my adjustments from there.I think too many simmers never go thru these steps. They buy addons, get bad performance and then get disappointed. I have long since learned that a lot of developers sometimes take short cuts by not mipping stuff, using huge textures and things of that nature.Anyways, you probably get my point. CPU @4.2ghz and GTX460 @830ghz core. You can toggle traffic with ctrl+shift+t and thats when I notice the FPS change. I probably should turn down the UTII traffic from 90%.jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist

Thats because many simmers expect to get a good performance from a paid addon without having to rip it apart and modify it. Not everyone has the technical ability to do so nor configure their PC.Its like buying a TV then as soon as you get it home having to modify the circuit to make the volume audible, the picture sharper and brighter and then adding a mod so that you can receive more channels!!

FlyTampa and FSDreamteam come to mind as two developers who make good performing sceneries that you dont have to do anything to. However, most of the stuff I have bought from Aerosoft that they have developed and other stuff they just market, I end up having to do some of the work myself. Trust me, using the flight sim over the past years has made me learn a lot about computers and things of that nature. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

How do you batch convert your textures and how do you know which ones to convert? Best regards, Alexander Rietveld
August 15, 201015 yr 1. If using REX or FSX examine your clouds. Are you using the DXT's or 32 bit? Which size, 1024's or 4096's? How big are your water textures and how aggresivw are the water animations? What do you mean with "how big are your water textures" ? In file size? Are there various water textures in REX which provide less file size and therefore perform better? Which water texture in REX is good in your opinion? 2. I fly airliners so every single little road and bridge isn't at all important to me and probably saves me FPS. IF UT2 what are your minimal spawn distances and max a/c spawn amount? Are all you AI mip mapped?I installed UT2 on normal way, I disabled the starting sound, I took down the spawn distance slider to about 25nm (? - don't remember) and spawn amount to 100. Is this ok or do you suggest some other settings? How can I mip map the AI aircrafts in UT2? 4. The a/c you fly, are you using DXT or 32 bit textures? How can I check that and how do I switch? DXT are better, right? 5. Addon airports you buy, do you mip map the textures? If they use 32 bit textures do you convert them to DXT's? How to mip map? Thanks in advance,Pegasus. Like the tbm number, what your framerate is locked at. If you use the fps limiter bat file, etc. I have a fast computer just don't quite have the time to sit down and test various different settings nor the patience because every time things act differently than they did the day before
