August 28, 201015 yr Author Ok, new question for anyone. I've been reading a lot tonight about MOA's (Military Operating Area). Mostly about how the FAA decided to do them and mostly unimportant things and can't find any straight answers. From reading, they say that MOA's have their own schedule and have found this site and had a good read here but it seems a bit dated. Any chance someone can give me a quick rundown on MOA schedules? Or a link?I bascially ran into it for the 1st time just now when planning a flight through Nebraska. I ran into O'Neil MOA but can't find anything on VFR chart. Do they not have a floor and ceiling alt? Looking westward I see I am going to be hitting a ton of these MOA's so decided to take a while and get a better understanding of them. So far all I understand of them is, I don't like them :wink:Edit* Hmmm, after watching I might just want avoid them altogether. Great video, you can hear the fear and frustration in the pilots voice.Well, I will have my wife flying backseat...I suppose she could take some pics! I'll have to see how willing she is! August 28, 201015 yr Again, no idea about US operations here but whenever I flew thru the MOA eqivalent airspaces in Europe under VFR I always contacted ATC before entering and if it is ok to do so, no matter what schedules were stated in the AIP. Just to be on the safe side. When flying IFR, again, I suppose ATC is not gonna vector you in at all. Someone else has to come up with US regulations though, I'm afraid I can't help there. :(Edit:Ok well I have found a bit of info right on the chart TBH... What about this? Straight from the chart:O'Neill MOA extending from 500' AGL up to FL180, time of use 0930-1145 & 1400-1600 TUE-SAT, controlling agency MINNEAPOLIS CNTR 128.0 385.5Furthermore:"Altitudes indicate floor of MOA. All MOAs extend but do not include FL 180 unless otherwise indicated in tabulation or on chart."Sometimes it's really hard to see the obvious, but seriously, whenever I am desperately looking for something ON some chart I regularly fail to have a look at ALL parts of the chart, not just the "graphical" one LOL! Shoot away with more questions, I guess I might learn something new here every day.
August 28, 201015 yr Author Once again Etienne, many thanks.I look at the chart for at least 2 hours and then back again. I googled a ton too and best I could find was the schedule posting that seemed a bit strange.I'm more of a fan for http://www.runwayfinder.com than I am Skyvector. Actually they both have their strong points (as I see with this question answered ;-) but runwayfinder has a few things that I can't do without. Skyvector has some of the same things but you have to go through much more work in comparison. Anywho, thanks again!I still have tons of map questions, but think I'll hold off to see what's not answered in tonight reading :( i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
August 28, 201015 yr Commercial Member There is some great info here on VORs and how they work.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHF_omnidirectional_rangeBest regards,Robin.
August 28, 201015 yr Not a prob, glad to help. I didn't actually even know about Runway Finder, I might have stumbled across it sometime but forgot about it. I am not sure as to how it compares to SkyVector. I barely use either of them since I fly less and less in the US. Anyhow, I wish other countries even had services like that at all... LOL :(

August 28, 201015 yr Edit* Hmmm, after watching I might just want avoid them altogether. Great video, you can hear the fear and frustration in the pilots voice. You should read the comments on this video. I will not guess at the percentages of who posted for or against the F-16 pilot, the ATC , the military pilots, or the GA pilots, but a general consensus is to avoid them, especially during the week (my interpretation). I have my own reasons for GA pilots avoiding military operations areas, but while airspace may be shared, not all pilots are aware of what is going on outside their visual range which can change rather rapidly in such areas. I also know that GA pilots will break restricted airspace (note that not all GA pilots will do this, but some will). Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
August 29, 201015 yr Author Yeah Mike, I did read a few pages of the comments. After thinking about it I think in real life I would avoid them altogether unless of course it was closed (or inactive) at the time. Again, I am not a real pilot but if spotting aircraft in real life is anything like how it is in FSX then I wouldn't want to worry about something moving as fast as the military. In FSX a C172 can sneak up on me, let alone an F-16. At night I can spot them with no problem but maybe 5% of the time in the day, even after TCAS warning. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
August 30, 201015 yr Try keeping an eye out in this soup. I would have to keep an eye open for both suck and blows as well as GA aircraft. it wasn't so bad in the winter when the air was clearer, or at night, but daytime was a bear. Now, this is not a MOA, but what appears to be class E airspace (unless we were doing stuff on top of the Santa Ana Mountains, we typically flew around 3-5000'). In fact, what EU information are you looking for that you can't find from here http://www.eurocontrol.int/aim/public/standard_page/web_eur.html Paul Smith.

In fact, what EU information are you looking for that you can't find from here http://www.eurocontr...ge/web_eur.html While I have found German military airports for free, German civilian airports appear to be pay for. I have searched for German Airport diagrams and charts, yet they are either from FS communities such as VATSIM, but no government created charts.
