I am beginning to wonder if managing the thread scheduler with AF has any value.  I use AffinityMask=14 setting but all 4 cores are being used pretty heavy in Task Manager.  What is the point of that setting? To be honest - I tested with and without AffinityMask=14 and with it gained a bunch of FPS so that is why I'm throwing out the question. jja

I feel it makes a difference in the sim for me. If one is not running 3rd party add-ons they may not see any benefit to using AM. I would bet that one of your add-ons or multiple add-ons are hitting core 0 which may be why you see activity on all 4 cores. I dont see a FPS boost with AM but a bit of extra smoothness overall. :(

That is what is supposed to happen. Core 0 is used for the main process, and the remaining 3 cores are used for the scenery loading process.

Thanks

Ummm you may want to clarify your poll... I thought AF meant anisotropic filtering, which is very important..

using affinitymask=14 I am confused about what part of fsx is being handled by core0. on applying the tweak core0 is hovering at 30% and core1 100% so atleast I am sure that main fsx tasks are getting 30% more resources but I have now 70% of core0 unused. OP has said he gets all 4 on 100%.I would like advice on how to fully utilize the room left on core0. currently using default scenery with complex aircrafts at 20-25fps.

This is the way it is meant to be... The goal is not to use Core0 at 100%, but rather to give Core0 some breathing room to providea smoother flying experience. I definitely like AF=14 (use it always) for my Q6600 :rolleyes:If you would like to reduce load on Core1 a bit, use the external FPS limiter.

Yes AM=14 seems to keep core 0 from being maxed out and helps smooth out the sim so I think we agree that it is a useful setting. Also, I've been hearing that on a 980 platform that AM is not required.  Does anyone know more about that?TIAjja
