September 13, 201015 yr Moderator Just saw this over on another forum. Apparently she had a panic attack and lept from her seat and tried to open the door. I wonder what type of additional panic attack she would have had if she had been successful, opened the door and been sucked out at 30,000 feet. Here's the link to the story. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20016087-504083.html Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

September 13, 201015 yr Thankfully Physics guarantees a door can't be manually opened to cause explosive decompression.Except perhaps in the csae of cargo doors on early DC10s which were not inward opening "plug" doors. The June 1972 AA Flight 96 crash at Chicago resulted in some changes.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonnell_Douglas_DC-10Alex Reid

That flight made an emergency landing and got on the ground safely. It was Turkish 981 that crashed. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. September 16, 201015 yr RyanB, I doubt being sucked out of the cabin at 30,000 ft, she'd have time to panic. Some people don't understand sarcasm. "Caution is the elder brother of wisdom"

September 27, 201015 yr Author Moderator RyanB, I doubt being sucked out of the cabin at 30,000 ft, she'd have time to panic. Some people don't understand sarcasm.Yeah when I posted that and said "I wonder what type of additional panic attack she would have had if she had been successful, opened the door and been sucked out at 30,000 feet.", I am guessing some people though I was asking a serious question. The remark was intended as a joke as I know that you cant open the cabin door. That's one of the problems with posting sometimes on the internet, sometimes it's hard to tell when people are joking or asking a serious question. In my case I guess Ryan thought I was serious. September 30, 201015 yr In my case I guess Ryan thought I was serious. My reply had absolutely nothing to do with safety or sanity of the girl who tried to open the door.
October 3, 201015 yr Author Moderator My reply had absolutely nothing to do with safety or sanity of the girl who tried to open the door.Yeah I knew your reply had nothing to do with that. What I was saying is that I though your reply saying "Thankfully Physics guarantees a door can't be manually opened to cause explosive decompression" was implying that I thougt it was possible to actually open the door and jump out, which most of us here that have an interest in aviation or aviate ourselves know isn't possible. I was just trying to make a joke or make light of it. In the end i'm glad that nothing happened to her, the other passengers or the crew. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
October 4, 201015 yr was implying that I thougt it was possible to actually open the door and jump outNope . Seems there was a lack of understanding. my post made no implications of your knowledge or anyone else's for that matter, it's more of from the perspective of happily seeing no one got hurt. If we kept score on this matter, I think it'd be something like Internet 4(5?) Humans 1. Hopefully we understand eachother now :(.Regards,Ryan
