FS2004: sensational discovery!

This is indeed a great find! I can see everyone's imagination spinning out of control. :-) I just tried the airport info htm and brought up my local KRDD airport. Clicked on "airport diagram" and Adobe Acrobat Reader opens and up pops the chart. I can zoom in and out too. :-) Here's a pic I took of the screen.Best, Robhttp://webpages.charter.net/raabernathy/Sc...screenshots.htm

Very interesting! I am having some problems trying to get this all to work. First I am running Windows Me. I think I have followed the instructions to the letter, but perhaps I have missed something. First I removed the current info. in the file kneeboard_keys, then I went to a web site, "FSCHARTS" and moved that web page into the kneeboard. When I went to FS2004 and opened the kneeboard, the web site was there but nothing was clickable or if it was, I would get the error message regarding the page I clicked on.(I am on a cable modem). I then again cleared the kneepad and enter a couple of web sites using word pad, one site and then moving down a line and entering thew other web site. All looked fine in word pad, but when I saved, then opened the Kneeboard, both web sites were on one line and I got no response when I tried clicking on the sites, I tried this with just one site listed but still nothing happens when I click on the site. Anyone have a clue as to what I am doing wrong here? Thanks in advance, Gunner

your screenshot looks scary - what with the ghosts in the background ;-)http://saltydogfly2.avsim.net/images/avsim_sig.jpg"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams."

We need a guage like the GPS that is a miniture version of Internet Explorer...Someone will create it... Then you don't have to insert links, it could be a full browser with an address Input line.. Access to your Favorites, ETC.Great find!Barry

Hi all,I just wanted to reiterate the great find. Once I saw this, I almost could not believe it.Now I can surf all my favorite forums, and aviation sites while trying to land in a major thunderstorm, just like the big boys do.... What an awesome find. Thanks for sharing it. I'm sure most of the best developers are now hard at work creating all kinds of fun stuff for us, but don't forget to make it optional.Any install programs for one add-on may replace the files a user has for a kneeboard_keys file. Each aircraft has 2 html files inside of it, the checklist, and reference file. The developers can simply move the reference data to the bottom of the checklist file, and then use the reference file as your browser or even developer support forums where a user can ask questions while flying. But I would recommend that developers leave the kneeboard_keys.htm file alone, since individual users (especially new ones) may want their own options. (Like my two boys who use that menu quite a bit, since the manual is limited in what it gives as key commands) But since there are two .htm files for each individual aircraft, this seems to be where the best opportunities may be.DISCLAIMER:I only verified that the htm files are under each aircraft, I did not yet check whether they would work as seperate browsers or not. I'll let you know if they do.END DISCLAIMER:Thanks again..Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/banner.gif.Politics - Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death FORUMShttp://pub207.ezboard.com/bpoliticsgivemel...tyorgivemedeath.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml

Hi Joe,"But I would recommend that developers leave the kneeboard_keys.htm file alone, since individual users (especially new ones) may want their own options. hehehe....Yeah, sometimes my brain operates in a certain zone, thus blocking any logical leaps toward common sense. rare, but it does happen. :-)I was in the kneeboard, reference, checklist zone... I have also just printed it out for my boys.Thanks. :-)Regards,Joe http://aboutpolitics.net/images/banner.gif.Politics - Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death FORUMShttp://pub207.ezboard.com/bpoliticsgivemel...tyorgivemedeath.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml

Ok, I also have tried pasting both the ICAO file as kneeboard, as well as two others in ref and checklist. The pages load, but once clicked, go nowhere, and do not change.I've tried allowuing MSFS9 access in Zonalarm Pro, but to no avail.Hmmm...seems odd to me.WIN XP Pro.I read up where someone else was having the same problem.Any Ideas?Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/banner.gif.Politics - Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death FORUMShttp://pub207.ezboard.com/bpoliticsgivemel...tyorgivemedeath.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml

Thats an awesome discovery. I also noticed that a few of the kneeboard files were HTML docs a few days ago when i was adding some aircraft and editing CFG files. I thought it would be cool to make my own checklists and other notes and info for the B737-400, but I had no idea it could used as a full web browser. After reading about your find, i started playing around with your HTML file, added some frames for a header and left side bar, and added a link back to the learning center built into FS9 which worked nice. I tryed to get an address bar working in the header, but haven't had any luck yet. I have never used Front Page or any other HTML editor and know absolutely nothing about HTML really, and i was able to get this out in a few hours. I also tryed resizing the Kneeboard BMP file which was really easy, but the HTML page remained the same size, so I'll have to see if their is a way to change that. The possibilities are endless as to what can be done. My plans are to have a full B747-300 checklist which you can actully check off as you go along for preflight with links to online charts. A clock with chronograph in the upper right tool bar. Pilots log book or notes, maybe done in excel so you can accumulate and catalog flight data or notes. Expanded aircraft information or some sort of resource center. Links to realtime weather. A working address bar. And whatever else i can dream up.Anyways, thanks for showing us the light!

I am in the Eaglsoft Premeir on my way to Jamaica as we speak on the browser, this is to cool!Edited to add a pic of being in the VC, sitting at the table of the premeir and typing the message above, talk about the possibilities!!!Regards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.comhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/34867.jpg

Joe"Ok, I also have tried pasting both the ICAO file as kneeboard, as well as two others in ref and checklist."Have you done them in HTML format? Don't paste the "view source" page contents. Simply paste the site in HTML format and everything will be fine. So if you wanted to paste the avsim site, type the following:http://www.avsim.com/Avsim'>Notice, because of how this page displays YOU don't underline just put your site between the quotes.

yes, this is so much better. I have be FS reborn! Im made a little html doc with IMS web dwarf, im no expert so im just adding links that i like. Please post some links that you find helpful.www.avsim.comwww.google.comwww.mapquest.comwww.myairplane.com was a great one! thanksi added the noaa site. What do you guys think are must have links on the "new" kneeboard.thanks for sharing this great find.joe

I created a simple template that adds Web navigation items to the kneepad. It adds 'back' and 'forward' buttons, an address (URL) text box, and a quick links menu to commonly used Web pages. These items remain at the top of the kneeboard at all times. You can easily modify or customize the functionality or 'Quick Navigation' to add whatever links you would like (or if you have recommendations, send them to me). This is done entirely with Javascript and HTML.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/34879.jpgIf you'd like to use this template, extract the contents of the attached zip file to your aircraft folder. This will overwrite your kneeboard_keys.htm file, but does create a backup kneeboard_keys2.htm which displays when you first pull up the kneeboard. If you don't like the template, just delete the keys file and remove the '2' from the backup file.Hope this makes your use of this new find a little better.-Smitty
